Although 'cough CPR,' a self-resuscitation technique described in an email flier circulating since 1999, remains controversial among cardiologists, Polish heart specialist Dr. Tadeusz Petelenz announced the results of a study this week demonstrating that it may have practical value for solitary victims of certain types of heart attack. 'Cough CPR should be taught to the general public, as many people are not aware of their heart disease and their fainting may be the first, and most likely last, symptom of the disease, and tragically, the end of life,' Petelenz told members of the European Society of Cardiology. Describing the results as 'interesting,' other attendees called for further research. Full story. Discuss.
