Dog Meat Rumors Scare Off Restaurant Patrons

Email rumors claiming that the carcasses of dogs and cats have been seen hanging in the refrigerators of two Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh, Scotland are taking a toll on the businesses, owner Toby Tang told the Edinburgh Evening News on Thursday. The restaurants are languishing half-empty and customers are calling daily to cancel bookings, Tang said. 'In China they do eat cats and dogs but this is Britain and we don’t do anything barbaric in the Western hemisphere.' Labeling the rumors 'an urban myth,' health officials said their investigation found no evidence to support them. Tang suspects they may have been started by a competitor and plans to sue if he can prove it. Full story.
