The Marcus Dixon Case

A reader writes: "Is this true? One of my church members sent this to me. It's a link to a story about a young black high school football player in Georgia named Marcus Dixon who was charged with rape of a white girlfriend. It was consensual sex but her father put her up to the rape charge. But the jury (9 whites and 3 blacks) found Dixon innocent. But the prosecutor nailed Dixon on an underage law and he was sentenced to 10 years in jail. Seems harsh. Can't believe this is happening today. This link seeks help but I don't know if it's legit: http://www.act4justice.com."

The case is not only real but headed for the Georgia Supreme Court next Wednesday, according to an AP story published today. Marcus Dixon's attorneys contend he was inappropriately charged with the most serious crimes the prosecutors could come up with and railroaded into a mandatory 10-year sentence, while the latter argue he's a violent sexual predator who physically injured the plaintiff and deserves to be locked away. Some observers believe the case was racially motivated from the outset, according to an overview on BET.com. Dixon supporters can sign an online petition, though it seems unlikely to sway the Supreme Court justices' forthcoming decision one way or the other. More...

(1) Mad Casper says:

Marcus Dixon’s victim was not his girlfriend but a young student who was working after school and did not know him apart from being in the same school. Her father did not put her up to any rape charge, she reported the rape immediately and Dixon was arrested while still on school grounds. Also, Dixon has a history of sexually motivated crimes and has admitted to two he commited on school grounds prior to this rape. He was never charged with a crime for either of those incidents. Dixon’s attorneys played the race card at trial and won, and the prosecutor hit him with the heaviest penalites they could. Marcus Dixon should be in jail, instead he’s playing college football.

Mad Casper, how dare you suggest that this case was anything but yet another example of malevolent white racist pigs. Don’t you watch television? Black people never commit crimes against white people.

(3) Dabaule' says:

Before determing the race of the 15 year old girl, I speculated heavily that she was of European-American descent. I will admit, I do not know Mr. Dixon’s sexual history as a predator but UNLESS the girl was in fear of her life (e.g., a gun placed to her head), this is nothing more than a teen ‘blow job’. It is unfortunate that this young man’s life will be jepordized because of it. It is unfortunate that a woman, albeit a ‘stripper’, can accuse a mob of Duke University Lacrosse players of rape, and she is labeled a whore; a white girl performing oral sex in an open arena, according to the media, should be given the same considerations. Good luck Mr. Dixon.

This is crazy. Marcus Dixon was a big headed 18 year old that had sex with an underaged girl he found attractive. I lived in a small town and went to a small high school where this sort of incident is almost commonplace. Perhaps in a bigger school, it’s less common. But we’ve all been dumb teenagers with raging hormones and yearning to sexual experience, especially the fantasy of doing it at school.
But a similar situtation happened to Genarlow Wilson, which is just another injustice. Obviously Georgia is a backwards state with hidden issues. I can only pray these young men are forgiven for their own arrogance, which is all they are guilty of.
Young girls do stupid things also, like perform sexual acts with older men to improve their own self image. The older men who benefit shouldn’t be punished anymore than the woman should be. Sexual acts not involving rape are a two-way street.
So stop blaming the recepients & start supporting these injustices.

(6) Mad Casper says:

This was not consensual sex and Marcus Dixon was apprehended on school grounds after he commited his rape. He is an admitted sex offender and was acquitted of rape by playing the race card. The reason prosecutors sought such a serious sentence for the charge of statutory rape was because they knew he was guilty of forcible rape on a minor. He is a criminal that has been allowed to go free because he is black.

Mad Casper get a life! Were u there at the scene when this supposely rape took place? Only Marcus, the young lady, and GOD knows what REALLY happen! Dont get mad at justice because u feel it did not go your way.

(8) TC says:

Mad Casper is right. Those of you saying otherwise ought QUIT watching tv and actually research what you saying. Marcus Dixon has raped at least 2 women and exposed himself to at least one. I bet Oprah forgot to mention that didn’t she? Those were the women who weren’t afraid to report a 6’6″ 260 lb football star. God knows how many others have kept silient.

The one that brought race into this was Marcus Dixon himself. I know it’s surprising when a black guy is accused of a crime to play the race card but that’s exactly what happened.

Marcus Dixon, on tape mind you, gave two different stories to the police and intially said he did not have sex with the underage girl. I bet Oprah left that out.

The girl was not his girlfriend. She didn’t even know him. Oprah probably got that wrong.

He also hired a PR firm out of Atlanta to get him publicity. Oprah didn’t mention that did she?

It’s funny when you actually research things it’s a lot different then the way it’s presented on 30 second news clips or a talk show with a woman who has an agenda.

If Mr. Dixon is committed such a hideous crime, why was he not convicted of rape, the lesser offense? With a majority white jury? The punishment for consentual sex betweeen minors in Georgia was crazy and the legislature saw that and changed it.

(12) goodgirl says:

It is very evident that as long as you’re black you’re guilty.Partiality to your own will always exist. But where will the line be drawn. It depends on who is drawing it. MadCasper your name and statements tell me exactly who you are and the sad part is there are too many of you, I hope and pray you’re never given power of any kind over anyone else but yourself! They are both kids, and on the show the girl admitted to them being friends. Everyone has experience those hormone filled days where boys focused on sex and the girls who like them would do anything to be around them. This is a case where a girl did exactly what she wanted to do then feared what would happen if her secret were exposed.

(13) Shonda says:

I watched this case closely and was troubled by it from the beginning. For those of you who say this girl had no interaction with him previous to the ALLEGED rape, CHECK YOUR SOURCES! She even admitted flirting with him previous to the rape! She got caught and cried rape. Bottom line. A little girl who was scared of her racist ass daddy This isn’t unheard of! Countless black men were hung from trees during slavery, jim crow hell even as recent as 4 years ago on falsefied rape and whatever else charges. Floyd County, Mad Casper and who ever else, find an enema and use it because you’re full of it! Im glad to know this young man has his life back and I hope he moves forward in a positive manner.

(14) Fatboy says:

His guilt or innocence has nothing to do with race. If he has a prior history of rape then it is obviously rape. It is easy to understand how a 15 year old girl could be a little intimidated by a man who is 1 foot taller than her and almost 3 times her weight.

(15) Denise says:

After reading back over the previous postings, it’s no wonder that this country is in such a sad state. Marcus Dixon and Genarlow Wilson were both sent to jail for something that teenagers do every day. If Marcus had committed the rapes and exposed himself as mentioned, then why wasn’t he prosecuted then? Go and read the articles about the Genarlow Wilson case, the jury and all involved knew that this young man did nothing wrong. But, because of the backwards Georgia mind set, this young man is in jail. As an educator in the Georgia school system, let me assure you that sex is a daily occurence in high schools and surprisingly middle schools. If every teen who was “doing the nasty” was prosecuted, the classrooms would be half empty. And the color of the student matters not. Black girls with white boys, and vice versa. These kids have discovered that sex feels good. They have no concern for the consequences associated with premarital sex. Instead of sending them to jail for it, maybe we should better educate them.

(16) Sweetie313 says:

I agree with you Denise. First of all let me say that everyone who have responded never witnessed these acts for both Marcus Dixon and Gernarlow Wilson. However, we can only comment on what we hear in the media. If you notice, when a female yells rape, whether she is white, black, latino, etc. males are subjected to be guilty from the start, (look at the Duke’s Lacrosse team case). There are three sides to every story, his side, her side and the truth. Me personally, I am not sure if this was a racial act or not, however, I do know that reading the Genarlow Wilson’s case, the young girl involved admitted that it was consensual sex. Mind you, when the prosecutors threw the underage law charges at him that got him sentenced in prison, the teacher who had sex with her young student was next door to Mr. Wilson’s courtroom, whom they let off the hook. No I am not saying it is racist, however I feel that women get more pats on the back and warnings than men do. This world is ass backwards, and before anyone can set judgement on anyone, think about it as if it was your son/daughter. You may raise your child to do right, but when they are out of your site and they are dealing with peer pressure, your child may fall victim to whatever. I respect everyone opinion and all have excellent points, but I feel the young victim in Mr. Dixon’s case only screamed rape because she was caught. Had nothing came out, she would not have said a word.

(17) Pam says:

I was not there the day this horrible, horrible tragedy happened. But this is really not complicated and I am really not sure why so many people are saying things about this man and this child that have no basis. The legal truth is: If they had sex and she said “No” it was rape. If they had sex and she said “Yes” it was rape. She is not old enough to give consent. When you become a man, you need to realize this and take responsiblity for the consequences. All the other stuff being discussed is nonesense. Children are not legally responsible for much of anything. Adults are.

May 12, 2007 at 10:53 am
(18) Denise says:

I beg to differ with Pam. First of all this is not a “man” we’re talking about. At the time of the incident, Genarlo was a 17 year old boy. Let’s not lose sight of the real issue. As I stated before, if we started prosecuting every teenager that had sex, the schools would be empty. We cannot criminilize this behavior that scoiety has created. Sex sells everything from butter to blue jeans. We as adults have to take responsibility for what we teach our kids. An another thing, why are we always so quick to blame the guy in these situations. Trust me, on a daily basis I see young girls throw themselves at boys. Don’t be so quick to blame the boys, these girls are not as innocent as you think.

(19) Sam Mackenson says:

I don’t know who you hang out with, but people I know don’t video tape sex acts with 15 year olds. Another person said the girl admitted to “flirting” so then she couldn’t have been raped? That is insane. How many 15 year olds flirt? He at the very least took advantage of this girl, and created child porn. At worst, he raped her and forced he to do this. There is a reason why 15 year olds are aloud to have sex. They are too young, and impressionable, easy victims. This guy took advantage of that for this he is a criminal who deserves punishment. None of you complain when the punishment is lenient, but when it is intense your all scream foul play. Some people will protect others just out their own personalized agendas. This guy has played the media and race card to an audience, unfortunately, that eats it up. The Jury decided.

(20) Sam Mackenson says:

I want to know who filmed this? Is that person being punsihed. I believe other guys were there when this happened. She was probably very scared, clearly this girl was at least being controlled and taken advantage of. 15yrs old, that’s like right out of junior high. How can you think that that’s okay to do, and that you could get away with that? Can you imagine one of your daughters, sisters, or mothers being taken advantage of like that when they were so young? Would it be wrong to you then?

I will bet my shirt that the same girl will try to contact Marcus when he sign a 10 million NFL contract.

i don’t know much about the Dixon case, but i have followed the Genarlow Wilson case. for those of you who think he, who was at the time only 17, should be sent to prison I have one question. How old were you when you first had sex (or anything considered sodomy by Georgia state law). His sentencing is ridiculous and even the appeals judge knows it. For the DA to pursue this any further is purely political.

(23) racismsux says:

u guys are nuts. from as far back as I can remember teens have been “getting grimey” with each other consensually. for this to be considered a crime is ridiculous. who remembers movies such as “Porky’s” and even “American Graffiti”? to follow the letter of the law would condem 17 year old Richie Cunningham to 10 years for stink fingers in the back seat of his Mustang at the local drive-in. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

(24) Mad Mom says:

This is very disturbing to me. I was 17 years old when I first had sex with 19 boyfriend. I was a senior and he was in his first year of college. Did that make him a rapist? That was 20 years ago and it was ok then why are we digressing now. We had been dating for a year and decided as a couple to have sex. I wasn’t taken advantage of, we were 2 KIDS who decided to take our relationship to the next level. It happens on a daily basis. Since then he and I have been married for 16 years and we have 4 children. If you locked up every guy that had sex with someone that he was couple of years older than there would jails bursting at the seams! Girls are attracted to older guys back when I was a kid and now the same thing is apparent with my 16 year old daughter. All you can do is educate them on protecting themselves and making sure whomever they decide to give themselves to is worthy because regardless of what we say they are going to do it as we all did. “Judge not, less ye be judged.”

Let’s get more women arrested for sexual crimes against men. There are plenty of 17-18 year old girls who are having sex with boys under their age. Recently we’ve seen teachers having sex with their minor aged students, then allowed to marry them afterwards. Please – if you are a MALE, then learn to COMPLAIN like all women do. Then and only then can we slap feminism back in their sinful faces and women who cry RAPE can eat their own hipocracies and self-serving pride.

(27) Raven Broussard says:

The DA’s and Att. Gerneral’s offices need to go and work on some of those unsolved murdercases and also they need to work on those actual Rape cases. It was stupid from the start…Anytime
the punishment for actual sex with the girl would have been 1 year and a blow job is 10 years!

They need to let him back home with his family, who loves him….Also the DA was just pissed off, because the orginal charges where of rape…which the tape cleared all the boys of and so he found something, because the girl who said she may have been raped isn’t the same girl that the blowjob is from. Also just for FYI she never filed any charges, made any allegations nor did her parents. She even testified on his behalf in court. I am still trying to figure out how you seek so called justice for a victim who wasn’t victimized.

(28) nikki says:

Mad Casper I had to research this case back in 2004 during my senior year of college. I have since graduated cum laude and been accepted to law school. Initially the young lady did say that she was raped, however she later recanted and said that she was afraid that her father would find out that she had sex with a black boy so she said that she was raped. I do not recall any other incidents of rape in his past. I do know that he had an incident where he was wearing track shorts (which are very short)and had his legs open in the classroom and you could see his “member”. Bottom line is this young man had a very promising future ahead of him and because of one scared little girl that could very well be gone. I have watched tapes of interviews with the jurors (black and white) and they felt that the young lady was not raped. They convicted him because he had sex with a minor at the time. The jurors said that they did not know that he would be labled a child moletsor or that the sentence would be so long. It should not matter if Marcus or the young lady was black, white, red, purple, or polka dotted he should have only been convicted of statutory rape. So TC and mad casper check your facts before you check the color of the individuals in any case.

Anyway, he had people killed and his sons killed people too, and put people in prison for the sake of doing it, because they could…damn what was his name… oh yeah, hussein. f–ktard that he was. (31) Joe says:

I graduated in 1999 out of a high school that was predominately white. There were star athletes of which I was not. I however still had the opportunity to engage in activities with females of a different race, of which some were older than me. Lets say that these “star athletes” weren’t star athletes. Would prosecutors still go after these individuals if it did not look like they had promising futures, or were involved with someone of a different race. Rape is not anything to take lightly, but sex between two teenagers is not rape. Instead of prosecuting young kids who have raging hormones how about parents take more responsibility for their kids and stop forcing racist ideas into their heads.

(32) A.T. says:

Mad Casper is telling a bold-face lie. i remember hearing about this story years ago and seeing it broadcasted on Oprah. The girl admitted her father coerced her into shouting rape when the sex was consensual. I have no clue where he got the idea that the sex was otherwise. even the jury agreed the sex was consensual. Yes he admitted to exposing himself in class one time as a prank, but to claim he raped two other women is ridiculous. He was a teenager and made a teenager mistake. The only mistake I see in the entire case is that he had sex on schools ground…he shoulda taken the girl to the house and wore her out there haha. because of this case, dixon’s name will forever be ruined. he was an honor student who accepted a scholarship to attend Vanderbilt. He could have been playing SEC ball, and maybe then the pros but instead went to jail and had to settle for a D2 school. i really feel for the guy

(33) TIC says:

The most interesting thing in all of this is that we will never know what REALLY happened between Dixon and his accuser, because it was just the two of them in a school trailer. We can all speculate on it but we will never know the complete truth. What is told to us from all the media outlets, whether it be TV or the court documents themselves (yeah those could be lies as well; do you really think people don’t lie on court documents?) there are lots of aspects that could turn your head to either side. No Dixon did not rape another girl: He exposed himself to a girl and he touched a girl in track practice…if anybody ANYBODY has been in high school this happens! I’ve seen girls going down guys pants! I’ve seen girls exposing themselves. Sex on school grounds are you kidding?!?! I was on a bus trip for school and this couple BROKE a seat because they were having sex ON THE BUS! Now is all his right, no. Should they be disciplined, yes. Should they be jailed…if that’s the case then we all should be in jail, because none of us are completely innocent! NONE! The one thing that struck me as curious in all the research that I’ve done concerning the Dixon case is I never actually seen where she said “no”. I can understand not fighting because yes folks she could have been scared but I didn’t see where she said an initial “stop” or a “no”. I could be wrong though, but again no one will REALLY know what actually happened. Hey give them both lie detector test, LOL!!!

As for the Wilson case, I think that once again we need to look at what are children (teens) are doing now a days and those that don’t have children or have small children, instill or continue to instill more values into them, because again, this is common place. Nowadays it is nothing for a girl to drop to her knees and perform oral sex on a guy and not think nothing of it. At a party of that magnitude on New Year’s Eve no less, where alcohol was present and weed, it’s even more prevailent. 17 and 15 year old…that’s essentially a senior and a sophomore. There are seniors that date and have sex with freshmen. As I said before parents need to instill the values they want there children to have at an early age and then monitor them and try to keep them focused on those values. It can actually happen.

(34) Jules says:

I was on Dixon’s side, believing that he, like Genarlow Wilson, were the victims of a misapplied law. The more I read about Dixon, though, the more confused I am. DID the girl recant her accusation of rape or not? Some sites say yes, some say no, and I don’t know what the truth is. I’d like to see a quote from the girl in a reputable news column–can anyone point me to one? It’s really hard to search because I don’t know the alleged victim’s name. My go-to site, Wikipedia, which always has tons of links, doesn’t even have a page for Marcus Dixon. (Apparently some TV character has that name, too.)
I don’t know whether racism was a factor in the case, but it sure seems to be evident in the public reaction. Just look at this board! I’ve seen another ugly type of prejudice, too: that good-looking football stars with good grades cannot be rapists. I don’t know whether Dixon is guilty or not, but being a kid with a bright future certainly doesn’t mean he can’t do bad things. There are plenty of criminals among sports stars and Hollywood celebrities.

You cannot take off your pants with your knees and your elbows while holding someone’s shoulders, and that’s what she said happened. What happened to Marcus was terrible and I’m really happy he is a free man. And to all you who said 15 year olds are not legally responsible for anything, it’s complete B.S. She knew exactly what she was doing and according to Marcus, she had fooled around with other guys. She was probably bragging to everyone that she had sex with the star football player, word got around, and she was afraid her dad would find out; so she made up the whole rape story so her dad wouldn’t kill her. Everyone should watch the interview and really watch all her gestures, it tells the whole story: SHE’S A LIAR!

(47) Avalynn says:

Marcus Dixon has struck again , He hit his current girlfriend so hard she flew across a king size bed and landed on the floor. she off course called the authorities and he off course called his coach and publicist.
He is a menace, a woman beater, and a racist. He needs to be stopped. What more proof do you need, MURDER.

(48) A Roman says:

I lived in Rome, Ga up until a few months ago. I will say not everyone that lives there is racist but the MAJORITY of the people that do live there are. Marcus Dixon lived in a racist part of Rome. The school I attended was great I wouldn’t have dared went to Pepperell High. The girl he was accused of raping own friends SAID HER FATHER PUT HER UP TO IT. Its over now her actions didnt mess up his life! And if any of you who are against Marcus and believe the girl he supposedly raped, you all need to watch the episode of Oprah when she was on the show. SHE FLAT OUT SAID HE HELD HER DOWN AND HER CLOTHES WITH ELBOW! THAT RIGHT MADE PEOPLE WONDER WTF! HOW CAN A PERSON STRIP YOU OF YOUR CLOTHES WITH THEIR DAMN ELBOWS. IM NOT A GENIUS BUT IF THAT IS POSSIBLE I WANT SOMEONE TO SHOW ME. Anyway if none of you are from Rome, Ga (and I am born and raised) then you dont know what people have to go through on a daily basis. Even the hispanics have to go through stuff. Hell the white women who date black men there have trouble to.
