In a science fair project, two middle school students used Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map 37 sneakers-over-power-line locations in the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The students then worked with the Harrisburg Bureau of Police to map the location of drug busts within these areas. Contrary to urban myth, the students found there is no relationship between the sneakers and drug dealing, as they had hypothesized.
