'Killer Bananas' Strike Again

South Africans are being urged to ignore an email warning which claims that bananas imported from Costa Rica may carry bacteria that cause necrotizing fasciitis, popularly known as the "flesh-eating disease."  The rumor is not only false but ancient in Internet terms, dating from January 2000, when an almost identical hoax circulated in the United States and caused a bit of a panic.
