If you ever watch ( MYTH BUSTERS ) on cable. They did an segment where they just happen to test that theory, where one of the guys swabed there mouth and ran the swab over a petriey dish and then swabed a dogs mouth and did the same. They put the two samples in an incubator cabinent and guess which one had more bacteria growth. The human culture had more bacteria growing in it than the culture from the dog LOL so if you let your dog kiss you. Who knows what you could be giving your dog since your mouth is more infected with bacteria than your dogs…..

What makes a dogs mouth clean is not what they eat or lick. It’s the fact that there mouth’s are cooler so many germs and bacteria can’t survive in a dog’s mouth that can in a human’s. Many people stick things in there mouth every day that are far worst then trash or genitals. This is pretty simple. I have 2 dogs. One of them has some doggy breath, it’s not terrible, and the other dogs breath has no smell whatsoever. Neither of my dogs has ever brushed their teeth or gargled mouthwash at anytime of their lives. One of my dogs is 8 years old and the other is 6 1/2 years old. Let me repeat…..they have never brushed their teeth or gargled mouthwash in their lives.
Now take a human. If a human doesn’t ever brush it’s teeth or gargle any mouthwash in their lives……Imagine what would wreak from that person. I wouldn’t want to be a victim of it. There are people who have bad breath “just because”. Some people are born with it. I’m talking Halitosis(not sure if spelling is correct).
The typical human will go to sleep and wake-up with God awful “morning breath”…..that can’t be clean. If it “stinks” it can’t be clean. Imagine a human that never brushed it’s teeth in it’s life…..yuck..

I beleive they have a lot more bacteria killing enzymes. I watched the man who lived with wolves and if he got a cut he let the wolves lick the wound to help it heal. He claims that it heals faster.

My 6th grader just did this for his science project. He swabbed 3 humans (middle of the day), 3 humans (after brushing), 3 dogs and 1 cat and put them in a nutient blood agar petri dish. While this won’t tell you what type of bacteria a mouth has, it did show how many bacteria colonies grew in a 1 week period. The 3 humans (middle of day) had just 2-5 bacteria colonies. 3 humans (after brushing) had 2-20 bacteria colonies. We attributed this to the toothbrushes being contaminated and transfering into your mouth so remember to change your tooth brush regularly or sterilize it once in a while somehow. Out of the 3 dogs, ones mouth was as clean as a humans with only 2 colonies, the other two dogs had dozens of colonies and were really gross. The 1 cat we tested only had 1 colony growing. So from this test, while some dogs mouths may be as clean as a humans, some dogs mouths are really disgusting.

a dogs mouth is not cleaner than a humans because most owners let their dogs eat whatever they want to eat and don’t try to keep the dogs mouth clean and most dogs just eat right out of the trash if they don’t want to eat they’re own food.
1. The term “cleaner” and less bacteria should not used to mean the same thing. Bacteria are everywhere and some prevent overgrowth of “bad” bacteria (you need specific bacteria in specific places). I would suspect that since dog’s lick and eat poop that they have coliform bacteria (poo bacteria) that is a marker for other bateria, parasites, etc that tend to make us sick.
2. What is used to grow the bacteria makes a difference because it selects for certain bacteria(i.e. blood agar, etc)
3. Dog’s teeth are a little further apart and less likely to have food jammed between them thus I suspect the reason they don’t need as much dental care (that and they only live 10-15years)
4. Most dog bites results in infection (as well as most human bites).
5. I highly doubt dog salvia has magical healing power. More likely to be due physical removal dirt and dead tissue of licking. SO wash your own wounds!

It depends on what a dog and a human have had in their mouths recently as to what bacteria levels are in the mouth at the time – nothing can alter that fact. It is therefore untrue to say with any degree of accuracy that a dog has a cleaner mouth than a human or a human has a cleaner mouth than a dog. However, germs/diseases are largely species-specific, so what affects a dog will probably not harm a human and human germs will not affect the dog (with the exception of things like rabies which are harmful to both).
You know if you let a dog lick you mouth, lips, tongue or whatever then you are a person that may as well be making out with them. You probably let them lick your genitals too. You are sick and no amount of reasoning will matter. You try to make excuses that you make out with animals. If you do this around me, I am likely to hurt you very badly.

I have done a bacterial experiment to find out if a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans. The answer is no, a dogs mouth is indeed more dirtier than a humans. Research shows much more bacteria in a dogs mouth than in a humans.

I think dogs have cleaner mouths than people because they drool so much that the germs just kinda fall off. We never drool unless were sleeping and we keep germs in there all the time. It is true that humans have more germs than a humans mouth. They may eat their own feces, puke, or lick themselves, although what is put into our food is worse. (And some people do “lick” each other during sexual intercourse.) This was done through the same procedure over 100 times and still resulted in the same conclusion. For that article Robert linked saying it’s not, that article is not even legitimate and credible. If one is going to link an article, don’t use google. And news reporters aren’t experts. If you want to cite anything use a credible source as in scholar approved articles and books. Google isn’t the answer to everything.

For those annoying people than constantly nip at peoples spelling and grammar, get over yourself. People can sound stupid and still have perfect grammar. As long as it’s legible, I have no problem.
Also for that uh other sarah up there, please have the sense to NOT pinch your dog. Even though you’re 8. Dogs can only be ferocious if you bring them up that way. You wouldn’t pinch a misbehaving child would you? Dogs don’t mature past the human age 4.
I like what someone said about (some) dogs that have no bad breath and have never brushed their teeth. I think because dogs have less saliva in their mouth, less bacteria is in it. Not to mention the food my dog eats is hollistic and also meant to clean teeth. Our food is horrible to say the least. Even our crops are genetically modified… We may not lick our butts, but we have possibly done worse.
My daughter and I did this project and the dog definately has a cleaner mouth. Also, I did some research to find out why a dog’s mouth is cleaner. A dog’s mouth is cooler than a human’s mouth, therefore bacteria can’t grow where it’s not warm.
Those who think a dogs mouth is ‘cleaner’, especially for no reason, are idiots. Bacteria still grows in cold.
No real educated person would say dogs mouths are cleaner.

lol a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans mouth because dogs wash there mouths ever day with water and people cleans there dogs mouth and also humans sometimes have bad teeth and do not brush there teeth there for a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans mouth.
I have watched my dog eat another Dog’s pooh and have a snack out of the kitty litter box. I find it way to hard to belive that a dog has a cleaner mouth. Not to mention it is always licking her genitals.
This is similar to the lie stating that we only use 10% of our brain. It’s degrading but not as bad as comparing us to dogs.
I just completed a science fair project on this topic and after testing the bacteria on the petri dish I found that dogs mouths are actually much cleaner than human mouths, duck mouth, and even cat mouths. If anyone is to disagree I would consider that you do the project for yourself. It is a very infromative projects and actually quite easy to do…it is pretty interesting too.
i myself am working on this subject for an 8th grade science fair project except i added cats in with it so my question is this: which mouth has more bacteria a cat, dog, or a human? you tell me
