In an interview with the Scotsman about his upcoming gig playing Johnny Depp's father in the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean, 61-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards admitted culpability in one of the longest-running urban legends of rock & roll: the claim that he once kicked a serious heroin habit by having his entire blood supply replaced via transfusion in a Swiss clinic.
"It is a super legend and just as long-lived as I am. But it is rubbish," Richards told reporter Allan Hall. "I was at Heathrow Airport on my way to Switzerland for treatment for heroin addiction. I met some youngsters who asked me where I was going. I said to Switzerland to exchange my blood. They didn't understand me, obviously."
Obviously.
