This disturbing series of images purports to show the progressive deterioration of a wound resulting from the bite of a brown recluse ("fiddleback") spider. The origin of the photos is unknown, but they do document symptoms consistent with the most serious cases of brown recluse envenomation. The good news is that such bites are fairly rare, experts say, and don't often progress to such an appalling stage. Read more...

OWWWWWWWW! That hastta hurt Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww…….
My daughter was bitten on her knee by a BR. The knee swelled and the skin completely deteriorated. She was very lucky that she went to the Dr. in time to save the rest of her leg from being involved. Nothing to fool around with!
Wow! So gross! My younger brother was bitten by a BR, and it was quite a nasty situation. He didn’t mention anything to our parents for a while, so it got worse than it had to. If someone who’s been bitten gets medical attention early, nothing as bad as what’s shown in the photos has to happen (as far as I know).
okay folklore my ass, I got bite by one of those things, and my leg ended up looking alot worse than that, and the scare from having the stuff removed looks horrible still to this day and it’s probably been almost four years.. so yeah don’t downgrade stuff just cause your unaware of how serious it could be and it’s alot more common than people think it is.
I teach first aid, and I recognised the picture (main page, thumbs held together) from my National Safety Council first aid book, titled “infected wound”.
Oh, GOD! OH MY GOD! Wtf was that last picture of the hand? aaaaaaaaaahhhh what how!!
I’ve seen this picture in the classroom of our local Red Cross Chapter. It’s one of a series and the ones following this are a lot worse. Two of them are kept covered so they aren’t visible to the casual observer.
I don’t have anything to do with this company, but if you are concerned about brown recluse spiders, you might want to check out this site.
