Consider the tale of Daisy the golden retriever, a guide dog who supposedly led her blind owner, James Crane, and at least 900 other people out of the burning World Trade Center to safety after the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. It never happened. And though it's equally false that New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani awarded the fictional Daisy a "Canine Medal of Honor," I can name a few living, breathing dogs who performed actual feats of rescue that day and proved there's merit to the saying, "Not all heroes are people..."
