Remember the chain letter campaign soliciting birthday cards for 7-year-old leukemia sufferer Shane Bernier in Canada so he could win a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records? Well, two new versions have appeared -- one claiming that Shane attends Canterbury School in Crystal Lake, Illinois and the other claiming he's a student at Schuylerville Elementary in New York -- and they're causing headaches for school administrators, who are coping with a massive influx of cards from well-intentioned but misguided do-gooders. NOt a hoax dumbo, a simple wrong address. They should be sent to Shane at his home in Lancaster, Ontario. Shame on you for saying that such an effort to make a little boy happy is a hoax. You’re the hoax and have done a terrible disservice to a little boy and his family. Disgusting
Hi Mary,
You might consider actually reading the article before launching into your namecalling routine. Just a thought.
Assuming that Mary can read, honeychild.
Actually I was watching Canada AM this morning and today was his birthday. Over 2 Million Birthday cards have been recieved from over 36 countries. Definately NOT a hoax.

THIS WAS NO HOAX HE HAS GOTTEN OVER 5 MILL B DAY CARDS IT IS FEATURED ON 105.3 KISS FM IN OTTAWA CANADA. YOU CAN ALSO SEE HIS PICS ON http://www.shaneswish.com/
TOO BAD THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THIS TYUPE OF HOAX GOING AROUND AND WHEN A LEGIT ONE IS SENT EVERY ONE IS SKEPTICAL! CHECK OUT ALL YOUR FACTS IT IS ALSO LISTED ON SNOOPS.COM AS TRUE.
Thank You Jenn and Mary, I know that it is hard in this information age to make sure all of the facts are correct. But maybe the people who assume should dig a little deeper instead of making a snap decision. What an awesome testimony…over 5 million!!
So sad, that people assume this is a hoax. Shane is a beautiful little boy that receives his treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. My daughter and I have had the pleasure of meeting him as she also receives treatment at CHEO.
I am so happy for all of you you wrote those nice things about Shane and how real that certain people without checking those stories out say it’s a hoax..I did my best to help Shane with the birthday cards..I send email to everyone I knew and to my son teacher who made sure for an assignement in her different english classes that she teaches, each student did a card..So together we can keep this special boy happy..If on his 9th birthday of 2008 he wishes for more cards lets work together with all the people we know and make Shane happy by sending more cards..
It’s too bad that they went to the wrong address, but hopefully the school forwarded them on to Shane. Does anybody know whether or not Shane broke the record? I certainly hope he did!
Sigh… Why do people always get so self-righteous about this kind of thing. The article simply said that two hoaxes had arisen from the original solicitation. I wonder how many people REALLY checked out the original story to confirm it was true? Far LESS than will probably respond to the hoax version without checking it out first, unfortunately.
It was inevitable that hoax versions would start to appear – I just wonder if the family were aware that this campaign would run and run for looong after the real campaign was over.
I wish Shane Bernier all the best in his struggle, but let’s put the campaign to rest now – Do Shane Bernier a favour, DO NOT send him a card…
Shane mom
