Friday the 13th
Friday July 13, 2007
It has been proposed that fears surrounding the number 13 are as ancient as the act of counting. Primitive man had only his 10 fingers and two feet to represent units, according to this explanation, so he could count no higher than 12. What lay beyond that — 13 — was an impenetrable mystery to our prehistoric forebears, hence an object of superstition.
Which has an edifying ring to it, but one is left wondering — did primitive man not have toes? Read more...

wow i never thought about it that way…
For whatever it’s worth: in my country of origin (and in other countries of the world) the unlucky day or date is Tuesday the 13th…
friday the 13th is the day a french king had all the knights templers of the church rounded up and terminated .
I was told it was because Friday is the day Jesus died, having been betrayed by the 13th person at the Last Supper, Judas Iscariot.
jesus died on friday thats why its unluckey and judad was the 13th person at the last supper i dont think you no what your talking about
Duncan, honey, is English your second language? Or were you just in a hurry, Miss Thang?
According to my research i have found that Friday the 13th has been concidered unlucky since the Catholic Church had the Knights Templar burned at the stake for (according to the church) betraying them, ever since that day it was believed that that day was cursed, as an act of justice for those who died.
The ‘christian’ explanation only support the ‘Friday’ theory. As Alfredo has mentioned, other countries (some where christianity is very strong) hold Tuesday the 13th as the unlucky day. Mr. Emery doesn’t sound so off-beat to me, but I guess you need a certain level of intellect to grasp his meaning.
I find it odd (just my opinion, not based on any research) that prehistoric man used 12 as his stopping point…he had 10 fingers and 10 toes. If his feet only counted as 2, why not be stumped at 5?
Mark, what do you mean stumped at 5? How does that work, even if he counted just his hands and then feet it would equal to 4.
Ting, may be the logic is something like this:
13 =(2legs + 10fingers) +1
5 =(2legs + 2hands) +1
Anyway, Friday is the 6th day only for some cultures; in some European countries, the first day of the week is considered to be Monday, so Friday is the 5th day.
Best version I know is that Friday 13 is doubly female (named after a goddess and 13 moons to the year) and therefore judged - by men - ill-omened.
The number 13 is for Satan in the language of Cabol. This is why it is feared as a day of bad luck.
Today is friday the 13th!!!!!!!!
Growing up, I always had lucky days on Friday the 13th, and later in life after I had several bad days on the 13th I realized that the day was just like any other day.
#14 - Gee, Janice, did you come up with that all by yourself, sweetie? I bet it also came as a surprise to you that the sky is blue.
The number 13 got its bad wrap due to Jesus and the last supper. There were 13 at the last supper BUT then Jesus died, so it’s said that the number 13 is unlucky for that reason.
If 13 is such an unlucky number, then how come there was 13 colonies, 13 states, 13 stars on the first American flag, 13 stripes on every flag since, 13 arrows in the claw of the bald eagle of the symbol of the united states, and 13 leaves on the olive branch in the other claw? And so on and so on. 13 It seems to me is one hell of a lucky number for each and every single American that has ever been.
#3 Mike has the most popular version of what Friday the 13th is about, where it came from, however it’s really funny to read some of the comment on here, like Ms Sheneneh, who will totally ignore the subject, but trash talk others.
I agree with Annon, maybe it’s the fact she has 13 teeth in her head! Or 13 strands of hair, or 13 fingers and toes. Who knows? Maybe it’s because…. nah…I won’t go there.
DOH… I feel foolish now.. LOL… this doesn’t seem to be a “current” running log! LOL
I was raised Southern Baptist and brainwashed with superstition. I realized it’s silliness in childhood. I find it incomprehensible that anyone should fear the # 13 just as I find consulting horoscopes, prayer-healing, and the tooth fairy.
I have had a really bad day today; And it turns out because of the stupid date; Friday the 13th. WOW.
FRIDAY THE 13th HAS ALWAYS BEEN A “GOOD LUCK” DAY FOR ME. I DO ANYTHING THAT I WAS HESITANT IN DOING BEFORE AND IT TURNS OUT GREAT.
Me and my best friend are both born on Friday 13th…and we’re perfectly normal!
#1 to #24
Actually, July 13 Friday did me a lot of good… Well, to tell you the truth, maybe its bcos i felt Friday the 13th sounded funny and i wanted to do something ‘lucky’ that day to (start pompous tone) ‘dispel fears about the mysterious no. 13′ (/stop pompous tone)…
Now dont ask me why Ms.Sheneneh
Anyway, check out the link below for Wikipedia’s joke err.. version of Friday the 13th

You know, you should really check out my blog post about this. I did some research before making it =)

Hi,
Thanks to all .form Ali Bangladesh .
Friday the 13th is just like any other day, but mankinds superstitious nature makes it appear look so special. To be honest, nothing seriously bad will ever happen to anybody on this date unless you make it to happen to you! Never trouble Trouble till Trouble troubles you!!!!!!!!!
i think its something that someone made up and the story has stuck ever since.
- or apollo 13 launched on a friday
I was born on Friday 13th and have had a great life.
i got a 13 tattooed on the 13th. i love it.
In Judaism, the #13 is lucky because it is the year a boy or girl has a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, an important event.
Ok people!!! Its just a date. And to tell you the truth I absolutly LOVE Fridays. Cry a river, build a bridge and get over it!
Hey Duncan, I think the toes thing is real enough. Especially when it’s a tangible explanation rather than one linked to an intangible like religion. Jesus, Buddah, Allah? Come on, fairy story, nothing more.
Yeah thats kinda weird.
ae you guys! i don’t think its funny. don’t you know, Apollo 13 was launched at 1313 hours of central time, jesus christ was insulted by the 13 member at the last supper, and so on. i think its wierd, don’t you?n history is full of mesteries on FRIDAY THE 13.
i wana make my engagement on that date// JUNE…but after hearing all that..i became afraid to keep it on this day..
what do u think??????
