Cell Phone Numbers 'Going Public'?
Thursday October 4, 2007
Are everyone's cell phone numbers about to be released to telemarketers? The answer is still no, according to spokespersons for the major wireless service providers, notwithstanding an announced plan -- currently on hold -- to establish a 411 directory of wireless customers in the near future. Justified or not, cell phone users are continuing to rush in droves to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry in response to email rumors circulating since 2004. Read more...

What about the email rumor going around that says frequently reading about email rumors going around can double your IQ within three months — is that true?
e to the i*pi equals minus 1
the infinite series converges to .9999999999999999999999…. etc (1/2 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32 + 1/64 and so on), so it is equal to plus 1
There’s no harm in registering one’s number, is there?
If the answer to telemarketers calling you on your cell is [still no]. Then why am I getting calls on my cell from telemarketers. And a lot of them ?
Tom,
Please note, the article doesn’t say telemarketers will never call you. It says that it’s false that a directory of cell phone numbers is about to be released to telemarketers.
It’s basically illegal already for telemarketers to call cell phones, but, again, that doesn’t mean it never happens.
There is no harm in adding one’s cell phone number to the Do Not Call Registry — in fact, anyone who is currently receiving telemarketing calls on their cell phone ought to do it sooner rather than later!
I ALWAYS check with this web site when things like this come through. Alot come through that are not true.

If this is a rumor, then rumors have voices and promises. I just hung up on a telemarketer offering me two trips anywhere in the US. Very few people (family only) have my cell number. But this was shrewd, operator telling me I have a call from TN and then the spiel. And YES it did cost me to listen to a small portion of the BS. Would like number to put my cell phone number on DO NOT CALL LIST.
I have seen this rumor since 2004 or so and every so often I get an email from a friend about this. I registered both my numbers when the registry was established. have never gotten a TM call on the cell.
Well, since my cell phone has been getting calls from telemarketers for about a week now I guess I should register my number huh? Too bad I believed that it wasn’t going to happen, b/c I could have saved myself some time. Now I need to wait for a month for the donotcall block to fully take effect.
I have recieved one or two telemarketing calls on my cell also. It’s my only phone so that’s the number I have to use it when registering for websites, one of those sites turned out to be a marketing firm. As for the do not call list, I’m not really confident that it’s protected. All it would take is a good hacker and everyones number will be out there anyway.
The law doesn’t say they can’t call you. It says they can’t use an automated system to dial your number. So, if they are dialing by hand, they can call you. That’s why I’m on the DNC list (all of my phones.)
Today June 3, I heard cell numbers going public June 4th, 2008, is this true? I ‘ve actaully never talked to a telemarketer on my cell, they may have called, but don’t answer. I program numbers and names of the people and comapanies that are allowed to talk to me, if no name comes up I just don’t answer. The companies I do personel business with, i ask for a good number for billing, finance, customer service, etc and load them, if someone really wants to get ahold of me, leave a message and i’ll decide if I want to return the call, PRETTY SIMPLE.
Dear Urbanlegends: I do receive a TM call every once in a while and I would love to call and put my cell phone number on the “Do not call list”; however, I am currently looking for work and am afraid that it might deter employment agencies from contacting me. Is this a valid concern?
I just received this one, 12/3/08…false or not…
REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public today
REMINDER… all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.
…. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.
Who ever got my # and is pranking me from 585-746-8339 is a sick twisted loser
