This email alert reads: "Do not open any message with an attached file called 'Merry Christmas' regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens as an Open Log Fire and will burn the whole hard disc in your computer."

Scary if true -- which it is not. Mind you, it is prudent to beware of any email from an unknown sender if it contains attached files or links to unfamiliar websites, but antivirus experts say the "Merry Christmas" virus described above does not exist.

today i received an email from me, that just read Merry Christmas. hotmail was mentioned in the details, is this the said virus or hoax. Everything seems to be running fine and i can’t find any documentation online…should i be worried. I heard earlier today that there is a Merry Christmas worm on the lose that can get into your bank account???

i get that. it was with my msn. i get a link, with at the backside my own emailadress. i went to the link, and my computer directly downloaded the file on the link and opended it, and the (virus i think) sended the same link to my online contacts, with their own adres. really strange
