Snoop Dogg a Mormon? April Fools!

Thursday April 3, 2008
Did Snoop Dogg convert to Mormonism? A phony CNN story published on April Fools' Day says he did.Folks are asking if there's any truth to the CNN report that rapper Snoop Dogg has converted to Mormonism. The answer is no. If you check the date of the story, you'll see it's April 1 -- April Fools' Day. If you look closely at the URL of the alleged CNN article, you'll see it isn't really a valid CNN site at all. And if you look really, really closely at the fine print at the bottom of the phony Web page, it says: "You just got fooled! Snoop's not Mormon... yet!"

Update: It appears the hoax Web page has been deleted due to Terms of Service violations. You can still read the full text of the article here.

Awww, that would have been so fun if it were true. I hope Snoop liked the idea and looks into it for himself!

They reported this story as true on radio station KENZ (101.9 The End) this afternoon. I just about bought it until I remembered April Fools Day was only a few days ago…

We Mormons are notorious for spreading rumors about which celebrity has just converted. This story fit right in and was hilarious to read.

I’ll admit it sounded convincing from what was in the article. I really loved how his kids thought FHE was “off the hook.” was this written by an RM?

(6) Mickey says:

Are you sure that other faiths aren’t just jealous because a big time celebrity is now mormon?!?! And that he knows the real truth compared to other phony religions! Not trying to diss anyone, but seriously!

Snoop would not fit in with the Mormons, I can see him fitting in better with the Catholics, they have no morals.

Please, all you dim-witted fellow Mormons stop sending me this story. We’ll believe almost anything when it comes to celeb conversions.

You guys sure make us sound dumb by how arrogantly you word your claims to truth. Learn how to talk to people outside of your own faith.

(16) Betty says:

I think what bothers me is that we expect CNN to report the truth or some from of it and it’s beginning to look as if you can’t beleive anything any more. Leave the April Fools joke to the children – it has no place in real news reporting.

Did anyone notice that David Emery’s Urban Legends Blog said “If you look closely at the URL of the alleged CNN article, you’ll see it isn’t really a valid CNN site at all.” But when you take the core part of the URL http://www.benderboyz.com it redirects to CNN ummm…

No Joke! I was watching his fatherhood show a couple of months ago(the episode where he leaves town to make a new video). you can see a Book of Mormon in the show at his house a couple of times. at the start of the show the Polynesian guy is reading it while sitting on Snoop’s front doorstep. for real, it is on that episode!

(21) Sam says:

The interesting thing about all this is that if you watch his show, you will see a Book of Mormon that one of their friends is looking at in their home. So there may be some truth to the story. Who knows how much. All I know is that they did have a Book of Mormon in their home and it was caught on film for the show “Father Hood”.
(I re-round it over and over cause I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. But there it was.)
