Word has it that a baby born with two faces in northern India last month is being worshipped by local villagers as the reincarnation of the Hindu demon-fighting goddess Durga. I see no reason to disbelieve it (that she exists and is being worshipped, I mean).
Though Durga is usually represented in Hindu art as having three eyes and eight to ten arms, it is unclear to me why the residents of Saini Sunpura are so convinced that Lali Singh, whose medical condition is known as craniofacial duplication (or diprosopus), is Durga reincarnated. But convinced they are, reportedly to the point of clamoring to touch her feet and shower her with gifts. The village plans to erect a temple in her honor.

wow thats wierd
I think she’s beautiful.
I was able to view the baby cozily swaddled in her mother’s arms and of course her situation is quite unusual–but the baby is very pretty nonetheless. The newscaster remarked also she would be undergoing surgeries to repair and create such vital things as her nose, ear and whatever else may be needed.
.
She is fortunate to be named as a goddess rather than an aberration (which could easily happen in less enlightened communities, I would think?). One has to wonder what would have become of her had she been born long before the advent of our “modern” medical miracles that we take for granted today, right?
I am glad to her she will be getting the
surgeries she desparately needs. I wish her
the best and hope she grows up normal and
will be beautiful woman.
