Just because Obama doesn’t salute the flag during the National Anthem does not mean he’s going to change it. And to “I’d like to teach the world to sing”…have you heard the lyrics to that song? I seriously doubt that is going to happen. I myself don’t put my hang over my heart during it, in school or not in school. I didn’t agree with the way our country was being ran, so why? The main reason people are making all of this stuff up and talking so much crap is because Obama is a black man. Face the facts people, he’s our President-Elect, and he’s going to be the president for the next 4 years!!!

(1) The flag code, which states the protocol for national anthem, is completely VOLUNTARY for civilians. Obama can decide to participate or not, it’s his right.
(2) Since the flag code is not a law/amendment obama won’t change it. There’s no penalty deciding not participating during the national anthem.

The American flag, Anthem and Constitution have been here for ages, and I think it’s all been doing pretty well so far. It would definately take much more than just Obama to change that.
Although, true, it is his right to participate or not participate, he is the leader of our country and should act as such.
I agree with most of you, Obama can’t and won’t change the National Anthem. The question about his partiotism? Being this country’s Commander and Chief means he must show his partiotism, that means hand over his heart when the Anthem is played. Having served in the military for 23 years the lack of respect for the American Flag and National Anthem is distressing. It’s obvious that Megan needs to move to a different country when she can spout her anti American crap alllll the wants. Or, she can stay here and spout it cause thats one of the rights she has here, freedom of speech and opinion…no matter how disrespectful it is. The Star Spangled Banner is a lousy national anthem for lots of reasons, including that it’s warlike and impossible to sing. At the beginning of the Super Bowl, the sang God Bless American first– which would make a great national anthem. Now that the idea has come up, how CAN we change it?

They resited the national anthem daily. It is because of war that we are FREE. It is true that people fought for our freedom. But war was not the goal; it was not what our country was about; it was just a means to get there. What our country is ABOUT, what makes it great, are freedom, and guaranteed rights, and the people, and the amazing resources with which we have been blessed, and the fact that we handle our political conflicts at the ballot box rather than by killing each other.
Our national anthem should represent the basics of what our country is about, why it exists and what makes it great. Instead it is about seeing the flag after a night of war. A flag is just a symbol; I’d like our national anthem to be a song about our country.
I would personally like to see God Bless America, America the Beautiful, or This Land Is Your Land as our national anthem.

For those of you who argue that the people are idiots because they get upset at the statement are very ignorant. The fact that someone who is the president of the united states and he might not believe in the national anthem is scary. The national anthem shows pride and strength of America. The star spangled banner was a poem written by a man who witnessed the war of 1812 in maryland when the inhabitants of the young country of the united states were worried that their new country would be taken away by the british. He wrote the poem to show people how through a night of fighting America had maintained its freedom and our American flag was never taken down off the flag pole and replaced with a british flag. Those few who believe that”the bombs bursting in air is not peaceful and violent” were obviously not listening to the song. What the writer was saying was that the light from the bombs and rockets displayed the flag up still on the flagpole and people new that The United states of America was still a country. This song stands for freedom and pride.
