Wired.com's Danger Room blog reports there are rumors circulating among political activists that Denver police may be planning to deploy a crowd control weapon called "Brown Note" against demonstrators at the Democratic National Convention in August. The device supposedly emits an extremely low-frequency tone that causes people to defecate involuntarily. For obvious reasons it is also known as a "crap cannon."
Protest organizer Mark Cohen says there are eyewitness accounts of a crap cannon being used against free-trade demonstrators in 2003 in Miami.
Nuh-uh, say Danger Room's David Hambling and Cristina Corbin of Fox News. Turns out TV's Mythbusters debunked the basic premise of Brown Note back in 2005, experimentally blasting Adam Savage with infrasonic waves, which, though they did cause some chest discomfort, failed to "liquify his bowels" as predicted. An accoustician consulted on the show concluded "there is no scientific evidence that proves such frequencies cause involuntary defecation."

The Denver police have to stop getting crowd control ideas from episodes of “South Park”
i say deploy this weapon at the repubplican convention, inside the the convention hall–oh wait, not necessary… crap will be spewing out uninduced
as a touring electric bass guitarist, I can tell you that at almost every show I had people who were standing just off to the side of the stage, with the right combination of my speakers and the subs under the stage, they would not be able to balance for up to 30 minutes, and several people have crapped their pants over the years- including my singer a few times when he was in the optimum bass-out zone….
the comments I’d hear were, “you hit this crazy note, and it shook my whole body, and then I crapped…” or something like that. Yet, I’ve not been able to cause myself to lose my bowels… oh well, I’ll keep trying and get back with yinz
All I can say is anyone trying to induce defacation on a large scale had better have some serious riot gear and crowd control equipment at the ready. People don’t tend to stand still after they mess up their underwear…
