Seems that McCain backers must be the ones sending the negative – mostly false – emails about Obama, and the Obama backers are humane and considerate enough not to sling mud, instead to concentrate on what’s right with their candidate, instead of what’s wrong with “the other guy”.

Ed, I find it difficult to believe that a straight line can be drawn from 9/11 to the current war. Time and again, it has been shown that Saddam Hussein did not have direct links to the hijackers. And how many times has the administration changed it’s tune on the reason for this war?
If you remember correctly it was Saddam Hussein who kicked the weapons inspectors out of the country. This was a direct violation of the agreement that Iraq entered into after they invaded a neighboring country to take their resources then burned their oil fields after their efforts were rebuked. And even before they were kicked out of Iraq the weapon inspectors were not able to freely investigate but instead were led around on a dog and pony show…sure you can look over here but not over there. Also remember that the Democrats also voted for the invasion of Iraq.
The issue isn’t with the email praising McCain’s family’s military presence; the problem is that the version I received had the blatant lie at the end, quoting Barack Obama from “The Audacity of Hope” that he would “stand with the Muslims.” He did NOT write or say anything like that – he wrote he would stand with Pakistani and Arab AMERICAN immigrants. This was to assure our AMERICAN FRIENDS that he would not treat them as the Japanese were treated during WW II – put in concentration camps on the west coast. It’s lies like these that necessitate his having an anti-rumor site on the web. If only everyone would check out the facts before blithely forwarding on the lies mixed in with the truth. Unfortunately it seems Americans love to wag their tongues….
Anyone who thinks that Hussein kicked the weapons inspectors out of Iraq should read Joe Conason’s article on Salon from March 2006 detailing Bush’s lies about such a claim.
The problem with debating conservatives is that they are unable to use reason or rationality, and that they ignore all facts that contradict their worldview. There were no ties between 9/11 and Hussein, and yet despite that fact, people still think that 9/11 provided justification for invading Iraq.
It’s sad, really.
