Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Bigfoot on Ice.
According to a press release issued yesterday by Searching for Bigfoot Inc., the 7-foot, 7-inch-tall corpse of an ape-like creature found in northern Georgia "may very well be the body of the creature commonly known as 'Bigfoot'." Unceremoniously preserved in a freezer chest, the hairy carcass weighs an estimated 500 pounds. Its footprint measures 16 3/4 inches long. It appears to be part-ape and part-human. A press conference will be held on Friday, August 15 to unveil further details of the discovery (see update below).
News media old and new alike have jumped all over the story because, let's admit, there is scarcely a soul alive who would not love to see the existence of Bigfoot (aka "Sasquatch") confirmed. The problem is, true believers have been trying to do just that for well over 50 years, to no avail. The history of "Bigfoot research" is riddled with questionable claims, dubious evidence, and outright hoaxes.
How likely is it, then, with nary an authenticated skull or even a bleached knucklebone to show for half a century of rumors and media hype, that the intact remains of a heretofore unknown hominid species should all of a sudden turn up in somebody's deep freeze?
I say not very; but let's wait and see.
Update #1: The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization is already claiming it's a hoax, and that this costume was used to fake Bigfoot's frozen remains.
Update #2: View the video of the 45-minute press conference held on Friday, August 15, 2008 in Palo Alto, California.
Update #3: It's a hoax.
Sound Off: Do you believe Bigfoot really exists?
1) Yes. 2) No. 3) Not sure. 4) Discuss.

A couple of points, if I may…
The bigfoot costume everyone is referring to is a fairly convincing article in itself but aside from a few similarities in the nose, the head of the one in the chest freezer and that of the costume are not that similar. (I copied those images of the beast that were available at Cryptomundo early this morning before the site became unavailable)
Secondly, those who are screaming ‘hoax’ may well be right but their enthusiasm towards the negative is as revealing as those who are automatic believers. Everyone is a photo expert these days and anything that is in photo form, to their way of thinking, is a photoshopped hoax… which may be what they do when they’re not dissing everyone else’s images.
Bearing in mind that they have already gone on the record via Fox News and have invited the ‘credentialed press’, anything less than the real deal is going to leave them an unemployable and strictly hands off commodity. That’s a pretty steep price to pay for 15 minutes of fame.
Finally, the telling will be in who is allowed to examine the body… or if it doesn’t mysteriously disappear before that can happen.
I agree. That costume does not look ANYTHING like what is in that freezer.
Additionally, that costume has fake fur, made out of synthetics that don’t absorb water.
The stuff in that photo is real fur. Looks a lot like bison fur, actually.
I am not saying it isn’t fake. I am just saying it isn’t plastic.
I can irrefutably vouch for the existence of Big Foot. My mother-in-law remains alive and well!
