Tom Cruise Isn't Dead (Not that You Thought He Was)

It was interesting to see a spate of news stories this morning aimed at quashing an Internet rumor claiming that Tom Cruise is dead.

I say "interesting" because although a couple of obscure blogs did post a text created via a "fake news generator" saying the actor perished after falling off a cliff in New Zealand, very few people actual saw or read the bogus article.

Be that as it may, Cruise's PR apparatus sprung into action, denouncing the story as "erroneous and unreliable Internet garbage."

More interesting still is the fact that the same website was used two-and-a-half years ago to generate the same false story, only with Tom Hanks named as the dead guy.

Oh, what a tangled Web we weave!
