Bogus Flier Tells Republicans and Democrats to Vote on Different Days

By , About.com GuideOctober 28, 2008

Follow me on:

In a repeat of the Election Day Switch hoax circulated during previous election years, Virginia officials are reporting that a phony flier is being distributed telling Democrats to vote on November 5 instead of November 4.

The text of the flier, printed on fake Commonwealth of Virginia stationery (see scanned document), reads as follows:
For Immediate Release: 10/24/2008

Due to the larger than expected voter turnout in this years [sic] electorial [sic] process, An [sic] emergency session of the General Assembly has adopted the following emergency regulations to ease the load on local electorial [sic] precincts and ensure a fair electorial [sic] process.

All Republican party supporters and independent voters supporting Republican candidates shall vote on November 4th as prescribed by law.

All Democratic party supporters and independent voters supporting Democratic candidates shall vote on November 5th as adopted by emergency regulation of the Virginia General Assembly.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but felt this was the only way to ensure fairness to the complete electorial [sic] process.
The matter is under investigation by the Virginia State Police.

It’s a sad commentary on how deperate the Republicans are to win this election (at least in Virginia) that they have to stoop to scamming voters into not ecxercising hteir right to vote.

It’s amazing that someone would think doing something like this is a good idea. However to make a blanket statement that it’s “the Republicans” (at least in Virginia) is ridiculous. Let’s try to stop the stereotyping.

(4) Ron says:

Isn’t it long past time that we acknowledge the real authors of these crude messages? I mean, they are always revealed by faux-indignant DEMOCRATS on cable news shows; they cater to the myths and stereotypes perpetuated by DEMOCRATS; their purpose is to benefit DEMOCRATS–when do we get the idea that they are PRODUCED BY DEMOCRATS?!?

C’mon people, this ain’t rocket science.

(5) Adam says:

It’s a joke. It’s been going around in some form or another for years – though the parties switch back and forth. You don’t need to vote anyway. I got you covered.

(6) Ron says:

Perhaps I should have added that anyone who thinks that Election Day might be any day other than Tuesday is far too stupid to attempt voting. Children are discouraged from playing with matches and running with scissors. Please don’t contaminate a democracy’s most important process. Do everyone a favor by staying home.

aahh ..Ron .. you are so typical of a convervative Republican that thinks it’s OK to play with the truth ..
what purpose would it gain for Democrats to spread a false rumor like this .. when by your own admission .. democrats are so stupid they would believe the story ….. GOTHCHA !!!

Ya, I know what you mean Curt. It’s nothing like how ACORN is engaging in voter fraud or anything [rolls eyes]

Hmmm, whats more pathetic, clear voter fraud or a fake joke flier. You’re a real brainiac sir.

(9) Jobu says:

That’s what’s nice about early voting. Cowardly stunts like these lose their impact.

Regarding ACORN, that’ll probably require its own page on this site before long. The “voter fraud” Jim referred to consisted of workers, paid by the name, entering fictitious ones. ACORN itself marked those entries as bogus when turning in the lists; it’d not be legal for them to omit even the most obvious fakes.

(10) Ron says:

Holton, stop emoting and apply the legal principle ‘cui bono.’ A crude message instructing people to vote on a Wednesday is highly unlikely to fool even someone who has lost all of his worldly posessions to Nigerian scams. It is simply too dumb to take seriously. Republicans can’t possibly gain anything here, but the Democrats gain another manufactured opportunity to rave about imaginary rightwing conspiracies. In 2004, the Dems practiced their usual misdirection by screaming about magic computers, while their REAL vote-fraudsters were stealing the electoral votes of Wisconsin for Kerry and hijacking in broad daylight the Washington state governor’s race.

I agree with Ron and Adam! Any moron who doesn’t know that that email was a joke doesn’t have the mentality to vote intelligently anyway! Just shows that many on the far-left have developed squash rot.

You think democrats are the conspiracy theorists???? ROTFL!!!

Who’s going around calling Obama a socialist and a communist and making his passing acquaintances into his best ‘pals’.
Gee I had a babysitter whose brother was a biker once 37 years ago…and golly he came to my house once with ice cream for the kids….does that make me a biker too?

The radical pseudo-Christian conservatives are truly out of touch with the reality of truth!
‘Truth’ really isn’t something you can bend and twist to serve your own warped purposes! It is fixed and finite and cannot be altered no matter how hard McCain and his desperate groupies try to mold it! It changes form and becomes bastardized into LIES!
It’s my observation that during this campaign period, the repubs have sunk to new levels and it makes me ashamed of the human race to think that such people exist who will stoop to any depths to smear someone they imagine to be different from them.

“The radical pseudo-Christian conservatives are truly out of touch with the reality of truth!”

Yep, let’s just throw out radical pseudo-Christianity whenever we see something that may deal with conservatives. Oh yeah, and Obama doesn’t lie. He’s more truthful than Washington and Lincoln combined.

Do me a favor and don’t vote/reproduce/talk ever again.

Hey, kids, grow up and get a sense of humor. I had a Democrat come up to me to remind me to remember to vote on Wednesday.

(19) C'mon says:

Has anyone else noticed that all of the obvious backers of McCain get angry and tell those who do not agree with them to stay home/don’t reproduce/and calling them stupid. I guess they are just showing the same temperament as their candidate. Everyone should vote, regardless of their support. ANYONE telling someone not to vote or that someone shouldn’t vote is just trying to make their vote more valuable. Republican or Democrat….. just vote.

(20) Josh A says:

Yes Jobu, the ACORN connection. The fact that John McCain was speaking at and attending ACORN rally’s in 2006 should tell you something.

Mostly that all politicians are two faced liars who would sell out there mothers for a vote. And the fact the McCain chose the lizard queen of the north as a running mate, pandering to the ultra right leaning conservative, makes him worse. The women would bring about a new dark age of America and I can’t vote for anyone who supports that woman.

(21) Jim says:

Another example of GOP attempted voter turnout suppression. and when you get caught, just blame those who you are scamming. Just like the WMDs in Iraq, I guess the Iraqis were too stupid to actually have a stockpile of these weapons when it was obvious that they should have had them.
