Headmaster Declares Boston School Vampire-Free

Via Weird News: Boston Latin School Headmaster Lynne Moone Teta says the prestigious secondary institution is not — I repeat, not — infested with vampires.

The statement was issued to address rampant rumors to the effect that several students had been arrested or suspended for alleged vampirical activities, including biting at least one other student on the neck. No one was actually bitten, officials insist. Nor was anyone arrested.

It's believed that the ruckus was inspired by the popular teen vampire movie Twilight, which was released on DVD last weekend.

Absurd as all this seems to us now, vampire scares weren't such an anomaly in the New England of centuries past. Folklorist Michael Bell explains.

Oh, for crying out loud! Is this going to grow into the next Harry Potter rumor? Remember the one where kids were becomming witches? Sheesh! Can’t people just enjoy the escape that Twilight provides, but still hang onto reality? Vampires?! Only bats.
