Not to be confused with the Great Montauk Monster Incident of 2008 (aka the discovery of a bloated raccoon carcass on a Long Island beach last July), this year's "Montauk Monster" find already has its own website and YouTube presence. The festering remains were stumbled upon last week in Southold, New York and are currently preserved in an ice chest.
It's too soon to say what kind of dead animal it really is, but trust me: it's neither an "alien" from outer space nor a carrier of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) as some excitable minds have speculated.
Stay tuned for updates.

It’s a Penguin.
Any excuse for boys to muck about with gross remains, eh?
My guess is a discarded pitbull bait dog.
I agree with the first post. I think this “monster” is really the remains of a penguin. Just look at its beak, and its two stubby legs and short, winglike arms. It was probably from some aquarium or zoo or something…I mean, dead captivated penguins have to be disposed somewhere…right? And most trash DOES make it back to the ocean!
I still say it is my ex-wife.
The teeth of both the rodentia (mice, rats, and yes, nutria) and the canids (dogs, wolves and foxes) are very distinctive.
Of the carcasses whose skulls I can clearly see, each is clearly a dog, purely and simply. Not racoons, definitely not nutria, and certainly not a penguin (ever see a beak with teeth, anyway?). It’s just a plain old dead dog. Sadly, Jessica might be exactly right.
