The Lou Pritchett Letter

By , About.com GuideJune 9, 2009

Follow me on:

Just how scary does former Procter & Gamble executive Lou Pritchett find our new president, Barack Obama? Very! The infamous "Lou Pritchett Letter" (aka "You Scare Me") lists 20 reasons the author of Stop Paddling & Start Rocking the Boat is very, very afraid of the current commander-in-chief, including my personal favorite, "culturally you are not an American."

Having received several inquiries as to its authenticity, I contacted Mr. Pritchett, who not only confirmed authoring the viral op-ed piece but sent me two more just like it. Thanks, Lou!

to jenika

you really are too slow to do some research aren’t you, the former president did not bankrupt our country, but rest assured this president has done so!

now before you comment,l go look over history and show me in writing the proof of how the former president has bankrupted this country, and I do not mean some idiot newspapaer article, go read and learn how to determine where our money has gone and the causes of it,

Jenika,
I suppose you think that since G.W. Bush. created a deficit of approximately 3 trillion dollars (in 8 years) it was OK for Obama and friends to triple that deficit? Not only did he triple it, he did it in just two years. God forbid he gets another 4 years to run the tab up some more. Perhaps if you spend a little more time watching the ball and a little less of blaming the past president (ala the Obama admin), you would find that you are getting exactly what you asked for. I am under the assumption, based on you comment, that you voted for Obama? I don’t think you were listening when he said “I am going to fundamentally change America”. Read it an weep. ‘Cause just like our personal finances, if you spend like there is no tomorrow, there won’t be!

Don’t be afraid. America has lived in fear for 8 years. It is time to do some research and understand Mr. Pritchett is not correct in all of his statements. Fear mongering drains energy and paralyzes us. None of our great presidents have been perfect, neither is our government. We need to move forward and strive to better our country and our government, of the people – not of the corporations. Capitalism is great – greed is bad, we need to see the difference.

AN OPEN LETTER TO Lou,

Dear Lou,
Obama is an American success story to say the least! Humble beginnings – culturally rich and diverse background, loves what our nation stands for…

I respect your right to your opinions and hope that you will consider respecting mine…We have the best country in the whole world – no matter who is Prez and which way we lean…we can discuss topics, even send our opinions to the Chief Executive without fear even in years to come – its our right and we can differ and still be ok! Discourse is good – it should not divide us – it is what is great about us!

The type of fact-finding rant in your letter that went to the new Prez is no longer timely – the majority of voters learned about him and chose to go in a new direction pre-Nov 4….the majority will decide again, if this new direction is correct or not in 2012. Many of us did not agree with the last administration, but, supported the initiatives, troops, etc and worked toward more personally reflective representation…it is beautiful – the way it works…what a great country!

If you want to know more about the Prez there’s plenty to read about him… and he has written books that tell you everything you need to know about him, his upbringing and his opinions, and how they were developed.

The relevance of how anyone paid for their education is lost on me…what’s the difference if it was the gov’t or a scholarship…is there some insinuation of a connection to something sinister or Muslim???…how did you pay for yours Lou…

The Prez’s lifestyle is well-outilined in his books and has never been extravagant.

The Prez and his wife are attorneys – probably how they supported themselves…I read that somewhere…

Culturally, the Prez is as American as anyone – country of immigrants – melting pot – I cannot believe that anyone would challenge that! How many of those that wrote our Constitution were born in the USA?

Most of our leaders have not managed companies. Are you saying the Obama campaign was not well-run?

Military experience builds leaders, but, is not a pre-requisite to be Prez. A civilian perspective in the commanding role has served our nation well. Checks and balances…would you prefer a military junta? The country has been hawkish for a while…some diplomacy sounds pretty good – even Iran is changing its tone and leadership in the face of some diplomacy.

The Prez only reminded those who criticized him that he did not start the current wars or economic issues – seems fair to defend that point.

As far as I have heard lately, Limbaugh is the only one that wants our Prez to fail!

Corporate greed has caused the current situation of bailouts and gov’t’s reluctant ownership of biz.

Why can’t the opposition see that all the rest of us just want to have health care for the 50 million of our fellow citizens that do not have it? Let’s hear a private solution…

There’s nothing wrong with balancing energy policy with environmental.

The American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world, has taken us all to the brink – and needs some modification.

There has been no use of ‘extortion’ tactics against certain banks and corporations other than ‘if you need taxpayer money you have to abide by some regs”.

The Prez’s political party challenges him everyday and every proposal.

This current majority considers opposing points of view as much as the last majority did and it is nice to see.

Omnipotent and omniscient – you have to be kidding!

The media covers both sides – just depends on where you are looking – there is lots of one-sidedness out there.

Limbaugh’s show is entertaining but likes to stir things up, Hannity sounds ridiculous, O’Rellly is ok – but another entertainer and Beck started out well and fell off the deepend. Those who like the Prez and the Democratic majority do not want these people to stop talking…

Once again, control has been warranted over some entities, as part of governance – I lost a bunch in this collapse(as did most of you) and I welcome some oversight.

And your last statement about feeling safe in 8 yrs – doesn’t make sense – the Patriot act did more to take your right to privacy away – put gov’t detractors on lists, etc….and Obama wasn’t Prez for that or 911!
Obama has already been criticized for asking about loosening some of those items that seem over-restrictive – so, which way do you want it?

In the meantime, thanks for your letter – I hope that I was able to point you in a direction that helps you to get your questions answered, if you still have them…

And I will read your book, Lou – once you tell me that you will read Obama’s…
tc.

As to TC’s comments, it just is a delusional response. I have in fact read Obama’s book “Dreams From My Father” and I have read Saul Alinsky’s book “Rules for Radicals.”
Just reading those are enough to scare anyone. But as to Pritchett’s points, you attack Pritchett and you never provide any factual information which dispells Pritchett’s questions and concerns.
Perhaps you may have some idea as to why Barack Hussein Obama became Barry Soeweto to go to Occidental College and then became Barack Hussein Obama to go to Harvard.
I have searched high and low for anything that Obama may have published which would show his scholarship. I have found none. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction?
It appears that the United States has elected what we used to remark what was served for lunch on Wednesdays when I went to overnight camp as a young boy–that is mystery meat.
It seems that even the hardcore Democrat Jewish supporters have grudgingly come to realize that the President is a believer in Islam. The economic legislatin he has had enacted and what the rules and regulations that are being issued by Cass Sunstein are directly in line with the dictates of Saul Alinsky–that is basically a neo-Marxist policy to radically change the United States from a capitalist free-market society.
As George Carlin said correctly in his book “Brain Dropping” “The proof of the pudding is in the tasting.”
The United States has been tasting Barack Hussein Obama for three years and is starting to retch on what he has served.

TC,
What is really frightening about this whole mess that we are in is that you and so many people like you do not see the danger that Obama poses to our nation. Barely 7 years after our nation was attacked by Muslims, Obama who by all indications, based on his cow-towing to them, and his blatant support of them, is one, was elected President, and this all while having not one solid credential to qualify him for the job. You do not see something sinister in that? I am sorry, but I do. The economy is not the main issue in our nation. The condition of the hearts of the people who elected Obama is the issue. God forgive us.

I have a feeling lots of people are feeling just like Mr. Pritchett feels. I know I do. The damage being done in some places is irreversible.
To TC with your open letter to Mr. Pritchett. This POTUS grew up poor, I grew up poor. He grew up believing society owed him something, I grew up working (from age 8 with my father cutting grass for a living – which was BTW my father’s 2nd job of picking up garbage). All we wanted was the ability to keep our own money we SLAVED for, all he wanted was the gov’t coming in and making his life simple for him and his mom.
I’m really sorry he grew up poor, but it isn’t my fault, (nor yours nor anyone else) that his mother chose the life she chose. This isn’t a black vs white issue, it’s an issue of those willing to pick up a shovel and work vs. those willing to pick up a picket sign to force the gov’t to provide for them.
My family chose the work method of making it here in America (we are immigrants), Obama chose to wait for the gov’t, and now he is the gov’t – the ANGRY GOV’T.

(18) Susan says:

Obviously TC, you do not have respect for the Presidency of the United States, otherwise you would not refer to the President as “Prez”. I am not a fan of President Obama nor did I vote for him. Personally I feel that everything that Mr. Pritchet wrote in his letter is correct, however he is the President and is due the respect of that office. Contrary to what President Obama or even you want to say, this country WAS founded on Christian priciples and is having the trouble that it is, because the Ten Commandments and prayer have been banned. Unfortunately, our President is steering us towards socialism. God help us!!!!

tc: 2.5 reality: 16

Yes, Obama is an American success story.

We will not have the best country in the whole world “no matter which way we lean.” Our greatness is the result of unique insights of our Founders. You cannot make changes to those insights without affecting the results.

Majority opinions cannot prove correctness. Once upon a time, most people believed the world was flat. That did not make it so.

We can tell a bit about Obama from his books but also that they were likely written with a lot of help from other people. On the campaign trail, and continuing today, there is little critical analysis by the main stream media of his words versus his actions and his flip-flops to Bush administration policies (including some he adamantly opposed as a candidate).

The relevance of his education provider is to whom he may owe favors or who may be his puppet master. That may be paranoid but in the absence of information it is not foolish. Similarly, Obama’s rhetorical openness is not supported by his lack of provision of a birth certificate nor school records nor compliance with his own pledge to offer time to review all legislation before signing it.

The Obamas could not support themselves during their education as lawyers because they were not lawyers until after they were educated. Mrs. Obama was an employee of the University of Chicago whose salary jumped up after her husband became a state senator and jumped again when he became a U.S. senator. Since resigning her position, the University has not refilled it.

Perhaps the ten people most responsible for our Constitution, and their birthplaces, were John Dickinson (Maryland), Gouverneur Morris (New York), Thomas Jefferson (Virginia), John Adams (Massachusetts), Thomas Paine (Norfolk, England), Edmund Randolph (Virginia), James Madison (Virginia), Roger Sherman (Massachusetts), James Wilson (Scotland), and George Wythe (Virginia). Eight of the ten were American born.

Mr. Pritchett had no remark for other leaders regarding their executive experience and did not say Mr. Obama’s campaign we not well run. Still, that campaign was probably run by others, not Mr. Obama.

Mr. Pritchett did not say military experience is a prerequisite for the presidency.

Mr. Obama did not start our current wars but was part of the problem with our economic issues as Fannie and Freddie were part of the problem he helped ignore in the Senate. Now, his trillions (!) of spending we do not have are a new part of the problem whose effects we do not yet see but will.

If government were truly reluctant to own businesses it did not have to take them; it only had to loan them money or let them fail. It took the businesses because it wanted them. Wake up.

Every citizen and many non-citizens in this country get health care. For those uncovered by insurance, emergency care is available to all. Statements such as 50 million people not having health care are based on repetition of myths.

Mr. Obama prefers wind and solar and bio-fuels to our own oil, coal, and nuclear capabilities. He admits that his cap and trade desires will ruin the coal industry in this country. He has signed executive orders that make nuclear power impossible not for scientific reasons but for political ones. He has not allowed our own oil to be drilled. Green energy is much more expensive and unreliable than alternatives. Our car companies are non-competitive because of high costs. Obama’s preferred approach on energy will make everything we make cost more. What’s he trying to do, get government control of everything? I’m all for green power research but making mandates for what should be research projects is a bad idea.

U.S. Capitalism built the most successful country on earth in 170 years. Government intervention has been destroying it since the 1930s. Fannie and Freddie are excellent examples of government screwing up and government not responding to it with the same vigor as the Enron or Madoff scandals. Government is a monopoly and monopolies are not a good idea.

An attorney for the Chrysler deal started talking about extortion-like behavior by the Obama administration but he stopped talking rather quickly. In the GM bankruptcy, long-standing bankruptcy practices of paying off bond-holders first was broken. You think bond-holders willfully gave up what was due them? Wake up. This is chilling on future investment because one of the decision points for stocks and bonds is the precedence for debt recovery. The Obama administration broke it.

Yes, the author is kidding about omnipotent and omniscient but Obama’s got quite an attitude, and the media feeds it very much unlike their treatment of Bush when they thought he had one, too.

Oversight for Fannie and Freddie were sought by the Bush administration and the Democrats said it wasn’t necessary. Existing oversight didn’t catch the Madoff scandal and more won’t either.

The statement about safety in 8 years is about what thoughtful people see based on the Chrysler and GM fiascoes.

Bruce(9) response to T. C. who wrote an open letter to Lou on this web site, pretty much made T.C.’s letter look limp.

The only person Bruce overlooked when talking about the Founding Fathers was Charles Caroll – the last signer of the Declaration of Independence- THE ONLY CATHOLIC. He was highly educated & highly regarded, he was an influential figure as the principles & structure of the American Republic developed. However, his story has been largely forgotten.
AMERICAN CICERO – THE LIFE OF CHARLES CAROLL, written by Bradley J. Birzer helps resurrect Carroll’s contributions.

TC mentioned he heard something about Limbaugh wanting Obama to fail. I don’t think he read or heard the whole conversation about Rush otherwise he wouldn’t have made that statement. Rush said it, BUT there was a whole lot to follow that statement. Perhaps TC should look it up and find out what he said for himself.

Mr Prichertt appears to be just another Republican that fails to listen or turns of Pres. Obama every time he does speak. Obviously he has not been paying too much attention. We Democrats have had to put up with George W. for the past 8 years so it is about time the Republicans have to put up with someone they are not comfortable with. Mr. Prichertt and his type (scare me). Funny how Pres. Obama is getting blamed for the national debt when George W. ran up the debt. to the tune of around 80 Billion per month just in Iraq alone which appears to be all for nothing. Does Mr. Prichertt not realize that this abundant supply of oil in this country is next to nothing right now? Mr. Prichertt—–get a life.

You may have had to “put up” with George W. – But it was your DEM congress the last two years of GW’s presidency that started the downward spiral of this country. And now we have continued almost another 2 years of insufferable living and racking up huge debts that go beyond the billion $$ mark. Give me back the Bush years any day. At least we were proud to be Americans, we were known as a Christian country, we didn’t apologize to the world for being a great nation and helping out everyone else who has needed financial assistance. Sounds like sour grapes on your part because Mr Pritchart does have a life – one that you are not enjoying the fruits of.

Congress is totally responsible for all the budgetary items and with majority persuation can over rule everyone else. They can and do… I KNOW the system.
One man with total opposition can only do and be responsible for so much… so little.

Read This:
http://www.cafetax.com/2010/09/20/bush-vs-obama-spending-the-truth/

It does not seem accurate to say Obama has spent more than any other president ever or combined. It does seem accurate to ascertain that he has contributed to the federal debt and deficit at levels never see before in a single year. The problem that faces us today is not all Obama’s fault, and it’s not all Bush’s fault, it’s the compilation of two offices that have spent recklessly and left people wondering about the health of our financial future.

(31) mkc says:

Mr. Pritchett, what I fear is people like yourself — the folks of corporate America and republicans. CEO’s and presidents of corporations (Enron, stock brockers among others)don’t give a damn about the average working person. The corporate execs take the money and run to Florida. The US government for the past eight years was no better than other countries of the world. When other countries let corporations and rich individuals buy presidential elections, and other government positions; let the poor starve; make little or no effort to educate the poor; have discrimination regarding race, color, or creed, we do not call that country a democracy, do we? So Mr. Pritchett, I believe the main reason for your love of the Bush admnistration, and the republican admistrations before that, is they made you, and others like you, extremely wealthy. I’m sure you believe that Ronnie and the contra debacle, or Daddy Bush’s bailout of the savings and loan are the best and fairest decisions and events of our lifetime. I also believe that you discriminate against the poor, other races and religions and of course women. Now, please go and county your money instead of your blessings. mc

I was not a Bush fan nor did I like Gore or Kerry (the US has had very poor choices for candidates for the past 2 decades). However, the direction Congress and the Administration is taking us is chilling. I say this as a person who was born in the UK (as a US citizen) and who watched his mother suffer under their Nat’l Health system. I have also spent considerable time in 3rd-world countries and solicalist “democracies”. The closest thing to a “utopia” that can currently be found on our planet is the capitalist USA. After traveling in extensively in 29 coountries there is no other place where the standard of living is so high for the average citizen (may be why we have such a high number of people immigrating here). What scares me the most is that I am coming to understand that the majority party now in power in Washington does not truly care about the “guy on the street”, but rather cares only about consolidating their power (i.e. $8.5 BILLION to of our tax dollars given to ACORN – their politcal get-out-the-vote group). God save our children’s future…

Well written and moving, but it is just a list of declarative statements without supportive evidence!

June 19, 2009 at 11:58 am
(36) Bob Jackson says:

1st. the “declarative sentences” do not have to be supported because they are common knowledge facts just like the fact that if Obama has a U. S. birth certificate he has not produced it as required by law. People who oppose him are villified for seeking and speaking truth in the current liberal cult atmosphere, and the birth certuficate issue is an example, as is his over seas upbringing. His relatives in Kenya have been quoted as saying they were present at his birth in Kenya! 2nd. The “nation of immigrants” point someone made is meaningless because immigrants cannot be president. My wife is an immigrant U.S. citizen and cannot run for president. 3rd. the comment that “we” just want healthcare for the uncovered millions is ridiculous because such a program is probably an unconstitutional federal act, it cannot be funded and will therefore mean some people would have to die for lack of care. You might be young now and not care about medical rationing, but when you are old and told you can die rather than receive care that would save you you will feel differently. The constitution limits the government’s powers to do these things because the founders realized that a powerful government would become dictatorial like the English kingdom they had overthrown in the American colonies. Oh, by the way many of the current federal activities passed into law are possibly unconstitutional, resrtiction your individual freedom and costing you hundreds, perhaps thpusands of dollars per year. Think about it. Yopu could afford your own healthcare.

(40) Bob Jackson says:

I apologize for posting back so quickly; however, I needed to apologize for the atrocious spelling in my previously comments and to thank the last person for their compliments.

I also wanted to point out that people won’t really be able to keep the healthcare they have now when there is a government program because the company that employs them can save money by dropping health coverage. You, (the employee) will accept your insurance being dropped because you will have the government, “obama-care”option. Then pretty soon “obama-care” is all that will still be in business and available, and the government will control your health and eventually your life.

If you bloggers who support him would read and research instead of just talking to each other and listening to the media that is very liberal you would know the facts of his philosophy, his anti-Americanism, and contempt for individual freedom. You might also study a little history to see how no socialist and/or fascist society can survive because only free markets continuously produce.

By the way, liberal-progressives love to call conservatives “fascists”, but fascism is exactly what Obama is doing: that is government control of private business. Of course he is throwing in a little socialism too by taking over some business.

Of course there are terrible examples of greed and corruption in a capitalist society. Guess what, there are no perfect systems or people. Wait till you live a few years in a government controlled one (whether fascist or socialist). Ask the people who have survived them (AS I HAVE ASKED THEM). I remember a young Cuban refugee woman I knew in the early “70s who saw her father torn from his family, when she was 12, as they were allowed to leave Cuba but he was forced to remain behind to operate the farm (for the government) which the government had stolen from him. When she and I dated briefly in our 20s she had still not seen him.

The problems with capitalism can be addressed and solved. Not so with socialism and fascism as they are inherently flawed systems. As far as the political garbage philosophy running amuck in Washington now, if we survive it with freedom intact, these will be wasted years. If we don’t we are about to enter the long dark night endured before us by so many others like the Germans in the 1930s and 40s and the people of Eastern Europe from the 1930s until only recently (and they still aren’t totally free).

I believe it was Jefferson who said [paraphrased]: When the government fears the people it is freedom; when the people fear the government it is tyranny. Hey folks, when the government controls your health and everything else, you’ll fear them the same way you fear your boss, parents, school administrators, etc. now. Only it will be worse because they will have more control.

(41) Peter van der Velden says:

Let’s take this one comment at a time to see just how reasonable they are.
Fear of the unknown? How many of the thirteen presidents did you actually know Mr. Pritchett?
Whether it was family money or otherwise, has anyone validated your education due to its source of funding?
“Culturally you are not an American”??? I won’t even begin to tackle that one. Is Schwarzeneger any less American/Republican because he did not grow up in the States?
Never having met a payrol can be said about many legendary presidents. They were never criticized for it.
The lack of military experience when put up against President Bush may actually be a point in President Obama’s favour. Look where President Bush got us with his “military experience”.
Lacking class and humility and always blaming others? I don’t understand this at all. This can be said about almost anyone but the person you are speaking of. How did you come to this? I really would like to know!
Radical extremists. Well….I will leave that up to you.
I am going to tie the next bunch together because these comments are very typical to the insular understanding most Americans have -and express- about how the world evolves. America has never owned up to its mistakes. Unlike most countries that actualy have the dignity to understand its weeknesses. If you, Mr. Pritchett consider your tenure in Proctor and Gamble to have been a successful one you will understand that the European model you are denouncing happens to have been much more succesfull than the American one for at least a decade. In many ways above and beyond the Capitalist model you espouse. And that includes a health care system that takes care of more than just the rich people like yourself. Extortion tactics agains the banks? Have you buried your head in the sand for the past 3 years? Why do you think the world (yes, world, not just the US of A)finances are where they are? You don’t think that the American Capitalist model has brought us to this point??? Let’s admit it, good old fashioned Greed has shown that it needs to be controlled.
As for the last points I will say this: Look at the record of the last president. You can say all of these are true for the last President, so did you say them then? Or were you one the people that then said criticism of a president was undemocratic? Needless to say you are showing your bias in these comments. By showing your bias you have negated any value in your argument. So if your argument has no value what purpose does it serve? It is sad to see that a person as educated and experienced as yourself should expose your inability to separate your political colors from your perception/understanding of the world around you.

(42) Bob Jackson says:

Peter, “the American Capitalist model” did not bring us to this point. Improper application by the government of existing regulations of businesses, the greedy behavior of SOME executives and the improper interference of DEMOCRATIC LIBERALS (most notably Barney Frank and Chris Dodd) got us here. It wasn’t the system; it was the people. Your spouting liberal talking points because you probably do not research behind the headlines on the liberal media you watch.

The facts about Obama are irrefutable and you are blind to them or you agree with them and him. They are that he has a questionable birth; he has associations through out life with people of questionable values with respect to traditional American patriotism (especially with respect to INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM). He has strong ties to people tied to Acorn and the old radical ’60s SDS (Students For A Democratic Society)[they were anything but]. This is strong anti-individual fascist/socialist. He listened for 20 years to reverend Wright and the Americans are to blame for all evils crap. His apology world tour proves he believes that garbage.

America has saved the world at least 3 times, individual countries and groups too numerous to count and funded more world projects than probably all nations combined. Oh yeah, and we made a few mistakes and behaved badly sometimes along the way. Who hasn’t?

Russ,

You are correct that Jews have destroyed our civilization. Just look at all these bums: Dr. Jonas Salk and Dr. Albert Sabin, who conquered polio. Irving Berlin, who wrote “God Bless America” and “White Christmas.” Admiral Hyman Rickover, who developed the American nuclear submarine. Haym Soloman, who went broke financing the American War of Independence. And my uncle, who was almost killed on Omaha Beach. I could go on , but these examples will suffice to prove how detrimental Jews have been to America.

Thumbs up Al! If one picture is worth a thousand words; a few good examples are worth all the opinions in the world. Every ethnic culture has its attributes and its weaknesses; but broad, negative comments that try to apply a negative characteristic to an entire group all the time are always opinion (and faulty opinion at that). I’m a devout Christian, but from the opening guns in 1776 and the few skirmishes before it was Americans of many faiths and ethnic groups (including Jews) who built this nation and will see it through our present constitutional/political crisis.

(45) Chris Foley says:

To tackle a few things.
A-Not everybody can get the coverage supplied by the state government, i have seen people get rejected, even those who didnt make much money.

B-the US government has had socialist qualities for many years now. The state funded medical coverage you are bragging about is apart of socialized government. If you despise socialist programs so much, if Social security isnt bankrupt when you get old enough to collect, dont collect.

C-The US is not a Christian nation, some of the founding fathers might have been Christian, but not all. The new world was populated by religions of all kinds, thats what seperated us from countries like England and France. Christians had their chance to rule, it was known as the dark ages, an age of constant wars, not just against each other, but against the middle east that left many many many people dead in the name of “God”

D-throwing money at the economy might not be wise, but currently there is no quick fix. There are flaws with all plans because both sides are putting politics before anything else. I will wait a couple of years before passing judgement. i wait till things fail, i dont act like i know what i’m talking about after listening to “experts” who are payed to say their bs by which ever party hired them like some of you people do.

This country is hurting, blame the republicans, blame the democrats, blame each other, its not going to help matters. So i have two words for you, Grow Up

June 30, 2009 at 12:41 pm
(46) Bob Jackson says:

The guy posting the last comments is the one who needs to grow up (and on the way get educated). His comments are so full of error as to be a waste of space.

1) Not everyone would be covered under the present Obuma plan. In fact it has been widely noted that it will add a small percentage to the insured roles. It will further put other insurance companies out of business making your care dependent on a political, always inefficient, always corrupt federal government. Many private plans work; mine does. A federal plan will lead to rationing as it goes broke like social security already is. When you are older but still generally healthy the government will let you die by withholding care for a particular illness that it cannot afford to treat.

(2)That there are socialist tendencies in our government is not a point to praise. It is indicative rather of the sickness in our political scene. It is a symptom. Both parties (but especially the democrats) have built this socialist environment over the decades by ignoring the Constitution. That document gives the federal government little power over our lives. The government has taken it under the guise of regulation of interstate commerce (a job of federal government that has been wrongly, liberally interpreted and therefore expanded).

(3)The U.S. in its 2 founding documents is defined as a nation under God, but the specific God is not named. It is understood that this is generally the ideal of the Christian God because Christianity was the prominent religion of the day (as it still is) and because most of the founders and most of the people were from that tradition (Judeo-Christian). Even the rational Jefferson [I studied at his University] was strong on the influence of God in the nation’s founding. Many of the wars in the Middle Ages were not caused by religion or were only partly caused by it. Warring was a way of life in those times and would have happened whether Europe was Christian or not. Many warrior groups then, such as the Vikings, were not Christian at all, and many newly Christianized groups did not easily give up barbarian ways. Many Christian groups had to fight for self defense in a barbaric time. The organization of the Church itself was often under attack and might not have survived had not certain leaders gone to war in its defense. The feudalism of the day was a culture based to a large extent on warriors and war, and it was a product of the social, cultural and historical forces that preceded and developed it (the least of which was Christianity). Much of world history has been written by the secular atheists that have dominated academia for decades. They have twisted many of the facts against the Church. People do not know the truth about such things as the conquest of the Americas or the Inquisition. For example, the pope of the period of the Spanish conquest of Latin America ordered the conquistadors to not abuse the native peoples. He was ignored. Also the Spanish Inquisition was peculiarly Spanish. It was not as harsh as played up by history though it was very bad. The Spanish culture is beautiful, but in those centuries it was backward and harsher than the rest of Europe. The Inquisition in Spain was worse than and not indicative of the Church in general Europe. [Indicative of the backwardness of Spain then is the fact that it sort of missed the Industrial Revolution so that when the Spanish fleet was defeated at Manila Bay (Philippines) & Santiago (Cuba) in 1898 by the U.S. the American had steel ships with engines while the Spanish used wooden sailing ships.] Don’t measure a great religion {excuse, me the great religion} by faulty history and one great, but backward country.

(4) Point “D” is just too ridiculous to comment on, but I must. [A] Nobody ever fixed their debt problems by spending more money!!! [B] Capitalism works like nature: the weak fail and go out of business while the strong well managed succeed, grow and hire those laid off by the companies that failed. It’s not perfect but neither is anything else in the world. Suppose we could control weather the way our idiot government social engineers want to control markets. We would probably screw up the prevailing winds and ocean currents that are the “engine” of the earth. Everything would stop working and who knows the earth might become uninhabitable. Nobody is supposed to be guaranteed anything they do work to achieve. There is blame on both sides for trying to change the basic “social engine” of our country, but the greatest blame goes to the more socialistic and therefore the liberal progressive democrats.

Grow up? Yeah, grow up and quit expecting government to change you diaper. Do it yourself!

(48) Bob Jackson says:

Pritchett is not in error. The current regime [I can't use "administration" as that term harkens back to the free country of my youth] is breaking the law and taking illegal powers almost daily. Those of you who disagree will understand when it’s too late, or maybe you’re fascists/communists yourselves and agree with those in power. For those who think me a rightwing crackpot, I never thought I’ hear myself talk like this about an American government. Then I read the Constitution and realized that almost every president and congress through history (except Reagan and the founders) have grabbed more and more illegal (i.e. unconstitutional) power.

June 30, 2009 at 11:56 pm
(49) Bob Jackson says:

Just scanned old posts a bit and found more pro-obuma misinformation. I really believe that many of you who support the present regime do not pay attention to anything beneath the headlines in the liberal mainstream media. I’m not a republican or democrat and there are issues I have concerns about with respect to things such as the environment. At the same time I’m not so stupid as to be led around by the nose without seeking the truth behind the headlines. On the one hand I’m conservative but that in NO WAY means backward or racist or any of the other very wrong stereotypes of conservatives. My spouse is a nonwhite Asian and over the years I’ve had many friends of various ethnic groups and dated in the same vein (before marriage). Bet you did not know that Republicans under President Eisenhower pushed civil rights legislation long before the democrats only to meet opposition from the latter.

Gm says in post# 10 that the deficit is Bush’s but lamely misses a couple of key points: #1 that conservatives blame Bush for his spending and #2 Obuma’s spending is so irresponsible that some think he intentionally wants to cause such a bad crisis so he can use it as an excuse to take dictatorial control by declaring martial law or the like. I don’t remember exact numbers but I believe that in his first 5 months in an office of questionable legality he has spent more money than all presidents in history combined. That is bizarre! It’s as if we’ve gone through some worm hole into another dimension were some guy, who may not even be a legal leader, is dismantling a great country that took a couple of hundred years to build. And everyone just stands around and watches. Oh and gm, there’s plenty of oil here for the short term future with Alaska’s North Slope and the off shore drilling abhorred by nutcase liberals.

Finally another point: recently the head of the federal government agency, EPA issued a 98 page report stating there is NO evidence for global warming. The Obuma regime squashed that report because it doesn’t support their spending schemes and liberal agenda. This government has no integrity, morals or any other character traits worth my time. How can anyone be supportive of people who ignore the Constitution, thereby breaking the law and do all the wrong things to supposedly fix the country and finally lie about what they have done or will do. Bush was accused of lying about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but the truth is he was basing what he said on what intelligence reports told him.

It’s sad; any and every time I read a piece that is even some what contrary to Obama, and there are comments, I get to see the “best and brightest” of the so called modern liberal intellectuals making asses of themselves freely and openly. Word usage, grammar and spelling all become important because in the event one is misused an attack is inevitable: “You are just a dumb whacko from bum screw….” “…can’t understand anything that doesn’t cluck, bark or mooo….” “…how can you judge when you MUST be a Bush lover…”. It goes on and on. Not only do these attacks show extreme weakness on behalf of the attacker since their attack doesn’t address the main issue, it actually leads the informed reader to believe that the attacker MUST suffer from a form of Common Sense Deficit Disorder (CSDD). In other words, they are OBLIVIOUS to the OBVIOUS or rather that have more intelligence than they can handle. CSSD’s think things through to the point that they become incoherent. They end up lashing out to any opposition because quite possibly the truth is too painful for them to accept. Folks…no matter what happens in the next six months: govt healthcare, cap and trade, more stimulus, US automakers being forced to make electric car and higher taxes for everyone….it’s not going to end smoothly or nicely. We’ve already dug ourselves a deep hole and the deeper it gets only means it’s going to take us longer to get out. You folks that think UTOPIA comes government….you are in for an unfortunate and painful reality check. Mission control this is going to be rough one!

Need_More_Change, you nailed it, my friend. Perfectly stated. Obamalites I have encountered typically seem to exhibit one of two characteristics. They’re either morons with nothing but the race card to throw, or they’re deluded with the notion that naiveté is a virtue. The last thing you want to do is confuse one of these people with a fact. Confronted with something so vitriolic as the truth, Obamalites attack your skin, your heart, your heritage, and your intellect, all the while steadfastly avoiding the reality that the truth is impervious to criticism. Obama is a ruthless liar. He has no regard for anything but himself—typical of a pathogenic narcissist. People who follow him simply fuel his monumental ego. He will seek to achieve his objectives through their blind allegiance, then reward their loyalty with utter indifference. May God help us.

Mr. Pritchett did not know the past Presidents, he lived under them – why do you make up falsehoods. Arnold Schwarzeneger is not running for President – where is Obama’s birth certificate – it is hidden from all – where is it? President Bush helped to eliminate the dictator of Iraq – did you like and admire him? He was a world class terrorist! Why did Obama say that the Cambridge MA police acted stuidly? They were doing there job – what’s with that – well Obama is promoting racism in the US. Healthcare for rich people only? My goodness what planet are you from – do you not know about Medicare? Moving the US to socialism is horrific – you just don’t know what you are talking about – ask thousand of Canadians who flock here for healthcare. Check your facts Mr. – you are 100% wrong. D. Gahs

(57) kevin salveson says:

Lou,

You scare me.

I am more scared of you than of Obama.

Why?

Because I don’t know what you eat for breakfast. Thus, the proper response is fear, I guess.

Huh? OF course that’s not worthy of fear, is it? And neither are your reasons to be afraid of your own democratically elected President.

When will Republicans stop using fear as their only policy tool?

Your letter to Obama is filled with paranoia and probably an underlying whif of racism.

I am a white kid from California, and I am an American. I got no reason to respond to you except for that your email was forwarded to me and it was so full of ignorance and disinformation that I couldn’t just sit by and let you spread such fear mongering.

For the record, I think Obama’s ok. A better choice than most. He not perfect, and I don’t expect him to be. Some of his policies I approve of, and some I don’t. But when I don’t I do dream up lies and fear about it as a policy alternative like you do. I’m just an average guy and not that into politics. But I can’t keep quiet on this, and its simply because as a teacher I can’t stand ignorance. Just can’t put up with it, especially when its so unsupported by facts or logic. I’d like to just elevate the deabate a little, that’s all.

I’m an American, and I want my country to succeed and prosper. And you are truly the one being Unamerican here.

Why bother to be so lilly livered scared, Lou?

You don’t realize it, but you are part of the minority here… apparently one of those who is afraid of democracy.

See, a majority of the American people voted for Obama, and a majority support him.

We are not afraid, like you, of democracy.

You fear list is made up of lies and unsupported parinoia.

If there is anyone to be afraid of, its Republicans. I have some facts on my side rather than fear mongering.

Under Repubicans, and their leader GW Bush, the nation TORTURED. Bush and Cheney approved of it and demanded it. Now that’s not only wrong, its ILLEGAL.

Under Repubicans, and their leader GW Bush, the nation SPIED ON ITS OWN CITIZENS WITHOUT WARRANT. Bush and Cheney approved of it and demanded it. Now that’s not only wrong, its ILLEGAL.

Under Repubicans, and their leader GW Bush, the nation SUSPENDED HABEAUS CORPUS. Bush and Cheney approved of it and demanded it. Now that’s not only wrong, its ILLEGAL.

Under Repubicans, and their leader GW Bush, the nation LIED TO ITS OWN CITIZENS TO GET THEM TO GO TO WAR WITH A NATION THAT HAD NOT ATTACKED US. Bush and Cheney approved of it and demanded it. Now that’s not only wrong, its ILLEGAL, per the United Nations President at that time.

Now, that scares me. Remember the Soviet Union, and how they were such a menace because of their fascist undemocratic ways?

Bush really did resemble the USSR in the worst ways imaginable, because it was ILLEGAL when he did.

But apparently massive violation of the ideals and laws of the US are ok, what really scares you is a guy who has been hired to pick up the pieces?
Because he is “omniscient”? Wha? That’ what scares you? A totally unsubstantiated projection of your knee jerk fear onto a regular guy just trying to clean up a terrible mess. Yes, blame the janitor, he’s happy juice was spilled in the hallway? Right.

Again, I have to remind you that your views are actually in the minority here. And with good reason – they are unsubstantiated and in fact a bit paranoid.

Do you not remember it was Bush and his Paulson team that started us on the road to “socialism” by approving TARP? No, you’d rather blame the guy who inherited the worst failure of American capitalism since the great depression.

Or did you forget so quickly that it was under Bush that the nation’s financial world fell apart, ushering in a CRISIS.

Oh, but you’d rather monger some fear without fact instead, huh?

Let’s go down you fearful laundry list one by one and correct your misperceptions before we close out this little rebuttal.

1. You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

Really? Not Nixon, who broke laws and was forced to resign? Not Bush, who bankrupt the country by spending us into a ditch on a war which was unjustified for reasons which Bush and cabal knew were false? You have wierd standards for what gets you fearful, and a very very short memory.

2. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

And who’s fault is that. I doubt you tried very hard to get to know him. But thats ok, he’s black, so we understand your natural negative reaction to giving anyone with a darker skin color the benefit of the doubt.

3. You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy
League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

Oh, that’s a real biggie. Almost on par with getting caught releasing photos of US troops torturing detainees and ruining the country’s reputation? No. Yes, our Ivy League schools, the best education in the country and world… is pernicious and must be stamped out! If you were semi-literate you’d read O’s two published books and get your answer. But let’s just answer your question: SCHOLARSHIPS and CASH and some STUDENT LOANS. Because O was in fact at the top of his class at Harvard Law. See- he’s better than the C student dry drunk Bush whom you somehow think is less scary than the best and the brightest in our country? Education should not be feared! And being upscale is not a crime, as all the Republicans on bailed out Wall Street could tell you, and those in the top percent for wealth in the country who got more tax breaks than the common american under Bush can also tell you that Republicans usually think wealth is ok. Ok, that is, unless you want to use class issues as wedges to defeat the country’s efforts to get back on the right track after a decade of crisis creating policy by republicans. Only then, apparently, is wealth a bad thing. Only for those who would put their narrow little political party tactics above the betterment of the country is education and a upper middle class lifestyle somehow scary.

4. You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

Oh- the worst accusation that can ever be made!! Lou– have you ever
travelled outside the US in your life? There’s a whole world out there Lou, really. Travel broadens the mind, so its clear you’ve never set foot outside your insulated little republican stronghold. This is myopic and racist. Don’t you see that you’ll never win another election in America again when you are seen to be the party of redneck reactionaries? Where did your ancestors originally come from, Lou? Under such standards, you are Unamerican! And what “proof” do you have that “culturally” Obama is “not an American.” What’s your criteria? If he eats Kelloggs cereal does he get a passport, but if not he’s not American? If he played with silly putty as a kid, would that do it? Howabout he runs GM into bankruptcy, would that do it? Howabout he tortures innocent civilians held without habeus corpus (which used to be a core American ideal)? Would that do it?

Again, so far we have a lot of fear and accusation but no real logic or fact to support it. NOW THAT’S REALLY SCARY!

5. You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

Yes, because your hero Bush really did a great job running Harken energy, right? So that’s alaways the best criteria for a leader. But again, facts are getting in the way of your fear. He did meet payrolls when he was the director of community organizations in Chicago which he ran. He ran the HARVARD LAW REVIEW as well, and so has some experience in leadership and management. But you’d only know that if you picked up a book instead of throwing your energy into closing your mind so often.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don’t
understand it at its core.

Ahh, yes. the Right wing must have its macho postures on war to be a real meat eating American. Except that there were more “chickenhawks” in the Bush adminsitration who sent others to war when they had the chance (and so then actually bungled it beyond belief) than there is space to list here. But let’s put it this way: Cheney, who fought all his life to avoid military service to their country, and Bush who actually went AWOl from the National Guard, said we would be greeted as liberators in Iraq. Yes, their experience and understanding of the military was impressive indeed! If you want to use that criteria against O, use it on your own party’s failures first and be afraid of them first, because the facts on them are even more clear than on O’s lack of experience which so far hasn’t cratered the world’s opinion of the US. (Yes- the world’s opinion counts, because they are TRADE PARTNERS with us… duh).

You scare me because you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others.
Oh- the dreaded lack of humility. The word “always” here is what makes this sentence bogus.

7. You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.
Who, exactly, are you referring to other than the boogieman Acorn or Rev Wright? This is a lot more unsubstantiated raving parinoid here. Show me the list of names, and show me quotes that state “I wish to see America fail, signed…” I bet a million dollars you can’t find it except in transcripts of Rush Limbaugh’s radio shows. The truth is, there are a lot of people who want to see America succeed at being the best America it can be. Lou, no one, no one, wants to see America fail, and no one around Obama today and far into the past hates America. They only hate the problems in America that keep it from being the America it should be, with equality and justice for all. To say I hate that my country’s past government which broke its own laws and ruined our international reputation by torturing innocents does not mean I hate America, I only hate Lawbreakers.

8. You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the ‘blame America’ crowd and deliver this message abroad.

But he looks so cute holding pom poms when he acknowledges that America in the last administration broke its own laws and international standards of decency. And acknowledging errors in order to set the stage for fixing them… weakness!

9. You scare me because you want to change America to a European style
country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

I don’t think he said that’s what he wants to do. Anyway, have you ever visited Europe? Lovely place. Being American does not mean always putting your head in the sand in xenophobia, Lou. If the French are paying a third of the cost for healthcare than I pay, tell me how they do it and if it works we’ll use it. But for some parinoid, foreign always means bad. (Even as you continue to use arabic numbers on your own money! If you give up using american currency because it came from foreigners, I’ll accept that you are truly beyond influence from foreigners.)

9. You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.
What a big lie. the government option will simply be there as a backstop in case there are those (and there are many) who can’t get healthcare any other way. You are free to go about your own purchasing of private healthcare if you want. So why do you want to spread disinformation? Perhaps because being partisan and wanting to see the president fail is more important to you than truth and success for Americans? So who is unAmerican and wants to see America fail, then? Calling it a “health care system” implies that we have one already instead of a costly ineffcient hodgepodge of private corporations who are raising their bill to you at a 6% clip.

10. You scare me because you prefer ‘wind mills’ to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you know nothing about energy policy. First, did he state he “prefers” windmills? When? Cite please. In any event, what is bad about clean energy that creates jobs in a future looking sector of theeconomy? Apparently, you love pollution more than sensible energy policy. No one thinks O is going to ban oil, shale and coal, and tomorrow you’ll be able to fill up your gastank just like yesterday, and you’ll also continue, I guess, to espouse dependence on commodities that benefit foreign entities like the Saudis at the same time. But I guess your xenephobia doesn’t extend to terror sponsor states when they are equated with muscle cars and unchecked long term raping of the environment to feed them.

11. You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living
in the world.
Are you blind to what just happened to America’s economy? The goose suffocated in its own excrement after years of overfeeding and no cage cleaning. O didn’t cause the crisis that led Bush and Paulson to bail out the banks; Bush is the leader who’s policies killed the capitalist goose by getting the government into the bailout business. If a doctor has to apply chemotherapy because a patient let themselves get cancer from smoking, it is not the fault of the doctor that the chemo feels bad. In this case, due to unprecedented crisis, O is offering the cure at the behest of smart people like warren buffet and his other esteemed financial advisors. Some would say O is not going far enough in favoring the average american over the wall street fat cats who almost sent us into another great depression overtheir greed and lack of risk management.

11. You scare me because you have begun to use ‘extortion’ tactics against
> certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because you use scare tactics yourself. Note, of course, that all of this was not O’s idea. The companies themselves invited it by asking for bailouts (GM) and by bringing themselves to the brink ofbankruptcy and national collapse. Or would you like to see your tax dollars wasted on bonuses for those who created the mess?

12. You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.
O’s proposals are responsible, and directed towards getting the country on its feet, create more jobs, and re-regulate areas of the economy that failed under the last president. But since when does O control the mind of every last blud dog dem in the senate? What stupid expectations you have about political power.

13. You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.
Yes- he won’t even consider favoring the minority interests of the super-rich, what an affront! Except I don’t think you have any solid facts to back that up, considering the fact that at almost every juncture O has invited opponents to the White House again and again to discuss just such differences in an attempt to get a consensus. Do you want me to make a list of the meetings, or can you do your own research before spouting off unsubstantiated claims?

14. You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.
You are truly in outer space on that. I think you are confusing O with Jesus Christ.

15. You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.
Except for Fox News and Bill Kristol, and Rush Drugsbaugh and Glenn Beck, your brave heroes. And your mighty fear mongering email chain letter, of course.

16. You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of
view.

Did O call them demons and I didn’t catch it? Did he really shut down their companies in a federal raid and I missed it? Did he really ask them to be silent and I missed it. You’re really going to have to give me some facts and quotes before I believe this little lie. Plus, there’s a difference between “conservative points of view” and nutjobs who cry for ratings on tv about how they don’t like black people being racist for trying to stop the white perogative to be racist.
>
17. You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.
Except for all of the times when he couldn’t control things. So where is his quote from any source where he states this? Or even demonstrates it? Facts, that’s what you lack. Fear, that’s why you’re a hack. Meanwhile, your hero Bush actually said about the Presidency, quote, “it would be easier if this was a dictatorship”. And that didn’t scare you but trying to solve the healthcare problem in American does? You are really down the rabbit hole, Lou.

18. Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Yes -its true- because our last government and its disrespect to the rule of law was to be feared, so I completely understand. After all, they were guilty of TORTURE, SUSPENSION OF HABEUS CORPUS, ILLEGAL SPYING ON THEIR OWN CITIZENS, and other anti-American acts that would have been unthinkable ten years ago. (Even Regan came out stating torture was unacceptable in all circumstances, Lou. But that doesn’t bother you as much as a black man trying to reform healthcare in America?) Sure, in this case I agree with you… I’m a little scared of neo cons and Republicans too, since they are closet facists, so i understand where you’re coming from and I agree that Obama should work harder to roll back such abuses in the future. Isn’t that what you mean? Oh– its not? You really think Obama will jail you or supress you worse than Bush already did? You are high, because its not going to happen. Instead, note that liberals and democrats actually seek to uphold this country’s values, not take the fear mongering tack in an attempt to get back into power and send America back into the ditch at the same time.

Love,
Kevin

That’s a good response to a stupid fearful little chain letter, thanks.

Now…

Now, several years later!

None of the things Lou and the other dopes on this board in favor of the GOP’s propaganda were so wildly worried about came true!

The unemployment rate has fallen.
The stock market is up 100%!
Obama produced his birth certificate and the dopes had to shut their traps about that BS.
Obama took out Bin Laden!
Obama won the Nobel Prize.
Obama’s superior leadership has allowed Democrats to begin to clean up the messes left behind by Bush, and the economy is improving. Meanwhile, Obama is cutting the defecit, gave us all tax breaks (that 80% of republicans didn’t even know happened)

Thanks Obama! No thanks to slimy lying republicans!

Remember (these are facts, look them up on the internet yourself if you dare)

1. Republicans have not balanced a US budget since Eisenhower.

2. Markets and economies have for the last 100 years or more historically done better under democratic presidents.

Its just a fact.

Too bad Lou is a dumb ass republican and not a businessman, or he might know or care about those facts!

We’re tired of the political BS from republicans… get on the bus or get left behind!

You scare me Mr Pritchett. You and the names of people you mentioned in your letter. Why would anyone put so much stock into what a corporate exc says. I have worked in the corporate world and chose to leave it. Several Americans who work in the corporate world dream to leave it, as well. The real estate mess and the corporate world has helped the United States get into the place we are in.. The Bush Adminstation made you rich.— People such as yourself writing letters like this and going against the President is scarey.. The President Obama Admin. was picked carefully with intelligence. They inherited a lot of problems and they are very eager to make America the great country we should be. I have lived all around the United States and I have seen so many people with this SCAREY WAY OF THINKING — s-o-o far right, and mostly very ignorant and prejudice. These kind of people are scarey to me, because they are like sheep. Some of the statements made in your letter show me you have not listened to or investigated your statements. I know how the President went to the Ivy league schools as you call them. He is an American, so get off of that. Your letter does not impress me because you are appealing to the ignorant people who just listen to what they hear on conservative radio. Things are taken out of context .Just because you came up from a soap salesman to where you are does not make an impression with me. I am sure you stepped on a few toes and kissed up to many people to get where you are..I know sales people and some of the things they do to get ahead and to make commission. I can not believe people are sending your letter around just because you made it big in the corp. world and wrote a couple books. – I would also like to know how a private letter written by you is being e-mailed around the internet.
You are doing what so many do-attacking a person not a policy. —You hit under the belt Mr Pritchett. This is nasty and I think this type of behavior has gotten you to where you are in the corporate world . — You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. God Bess America and freedom of press.

You scare me because you sound just like Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck and all those gullible minds that feed on this quartet’s daily dose of right-wing propaganda and cliché-ridden inanities. Got news for you Lou. Americans are smarter than you think. What you can’t accept is that the reason an African American is now president is that the once proud Republican Party is now in the hands of regional minorities dominated by old white Southern fogies. Not only are these doddering reactionaries bought and paid for by the same special interests, they still can’t accept that civil rights is now the law of the land. Worse still, along with Bush, Cheney and gang, they all failed this county so miserably during the eight years they controlled the executive, congressional and supreme court branches of government that the majority of Americans finally said ‘enough.’ That’s why Obama is president, Lou. Get over it. Your side lost. Thank God. Your witty little piece not withstanding, all that you, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, and Beck really have to offer is fear.

Lou Pritchett is one big sissy. That momma’s boy is a whimpering coward huddled in the corner crying that he’s so scared. That letter of his is simply one long lament that our great nation is going to hell and that he’s terrified. He has no confidence in the strength of our people nor faith in our public officials. He invents problems and then bemoans that nobody has the courage to fix them. He says, “You (Obama) scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you” so he clearly has not read Obama’s books nor the books about Obama. He takes chest-thumping pride in being ignorant. He goes on to say, “You (Obama again) scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient” but he has just announced to the whole world that he known nothing about Obama. Come on, Lou, either you know all about him or you know nothing about him – unless you claim to be omnipotent and omniscient – and ignorant all in one.

Lou, you need to find some courage and faith. Right now you are coming across as a basket case howling at the moon. Shape up.

(75) Paula in Seattle says:

Lou Pritchett, VP of Procter & Gamble Speaks out–Here’s my response and analysis of his points:

A rich Republican businessman doesn’t like Obama—There’s a shocker. Of course, our recent economic troubles have shown us that anyone who has been a successful business leader is honest, sensible, and trustworthy.

1. unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

Notice that a comment like “you scare me” is unanswerable because it is simply a statement of personal feeling. It implies that there’s something evil about Obama or Pritchett wouldn’t have a reason to be scared. In this case, the “unlike any of the others” really means “you’re the first president who doesn’t look like me.”

2. after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

This is guilt by innuendo. The Republicans have been using this line since the campaign because it casts doubt on Obama’s character by implying that he is concealing something. Obama’s family history, birth records, academic records, employment records, financial records, etc., are all open for view. There is simply no amount of information that could stop the Republicans from asking, “Yes, but who are you REALLY?” thus implying that there’s some dark secret in Obama’s past, because, like the “birthers,” they won’t accept the evidence that’s right in front of them.

3. I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support

Barack and Michelle’s finances have been fully disclosed. Anyone who had earned their salaries would have an “upscale lifestyle.” Obama’s finances were fully scrutinized by both Clinton and McCain during the campaign. If there were even a hint of anything wrong, it would have been exposed and exaggerated endlessly.

4. You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and
culturally you are not an American.

Notice that Pritchett does not define what it means to be “culturally American.” Obama was raised by his American mother and grandparents, most of the time on American soil. Many Americans spend time abroad—Army brats, for example, often grow up in many places outside the US.

The Republicans have a long history of claiming that there is only one way to be a real American, and that is to be like them and to agree with their policies. From the McCarthy era to the Vietnam War, to GWB saying, “You’re either with us (e.g. you agree with my invasion of Iraq) or you’re with the terrorists,” the Republicans have accused anyone who disagrees with them of being un-American.

I have news for them. There’s more than one way to be a patriotic American, more than one vision of what America should be, and more than one American “culture.” It’s true that Obama’s family story is very different from Pritchett’s. So is mine. My direct family members have been in America for four or five generations; parts of my family can be traced back to the Mayflower, yet Obama and I share the same “American culture.” It’s not the same as Pritchett’s, but it’s truly “American.”

5.You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

That’s an interesting claim since very, very few American presidents have been businessmen before becoming president, yet Obama is the only one about whom this information scares Mr. Pritchett. Among the presidents who never ran a company are Ronald Reagan, John Adams, John Q. Adams, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, Clinton—I could go on and on and on, but you should get the picture. Washington and Jefferson inherited plantations, but if you read history, you will see that they were not “businessmen” in the modern sense; they were much more like the landed gentry in England. The few presidents who ran companies before becoming president—most notably George W. Bush—have been among the worst presidents in history.

6. You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don’t understand it at its
core.

Many presidents never served in the military before becoming president, including such notables as Jefferson, Lincoln, and FDR. There are many, many other presidents who never served in the military. It’s interesting that that fact only worries him about Obama. GWB “served” in the military (sort of), and he has to have been our worst commander-in-chief ever. No war has ever been so badly planned and executed than the invasion of Iraq. So former military service is not a reliable measure of leadership capability in terms either of deciding when it’s appropriate to use military force nor in leading the country during wartime (see Lincoln and FDR above).

7. You scare me because you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others.

Notice that this is another unsupportable statement of opinion. What constitutes “class”? Obama is the first president in decades who demonstrates true “class” and “good breeding” as my very proper upper class grandmother defined those attributes. For the first time in decades, I am proud of the president and first lady who represent me in the world community. Both show true class: a combination of personal integrity, good manners and consideration for others, intelligence, and cultural sensitivity.

8. You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who
hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail..

That Obama has “aligned” himself with radical extremists is a gross distortion that has been thoroughly debunked by Fact Check.org and other sources committed to exposing falsehoods put forth by all political interest groups. Interestingly, it’s now the Republicans who are praying for Obama’s efforts to restart the economy and restructure health care to fail. When Republicans have held the presidency, they have claimed that anyone who opposed the administration’s policies “hated America” and was a traitor. Now they sing a different song.

9. You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government
sector dominates instead of the private sector.

Actually, until deregulation began in full force during Reagan’s administration, modern America had had governmental controls specifically designed to prevent exactly the sorts of abuses that led to the recent economic crisis.

10. You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

For the truth about Obama’s health care proposals, go to MoveOn.org or FactCheck.org. The number of outright lies being put forth by the Republican machine, funded by insurance and pharmaceutical companies, is astounding.

11.You scare me because you prefer ‘wind mills’ to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

Obama is interested in pursuing all ecologically responsible energy sources and developing clean technologies to meet America’s energy needs.

12. You scare me because you have begun to use ‘extortion’ tactics against certain banks and corporations.
You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals. You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

Odd to hear this from a Republican, the party that brought us GWB, who routinely dismissed any scientific finding he disagreed with and lived in his own ideological bubble divorced from “reality-based” sources of information. Plenty of democrats are challenging Obama’s ideas, and he listens to fact-based arguments and informed/expert opinions. Speaking of wild spending, remember that GWB took a budget surplus and transformed it into a huge deficit; the invasion of Iraq cost more per month than most of what Obama has proposed.

13. You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

Notice that this is a totally unsubstantiated personal opinion. Quite the contrary, Obama, unlike GWB, does NOT believe that he has a mandate from god. Obama seeks experts from all relevant fields to help him develop his proposals. I have never seen any lack of personal humility in Obama; on the contrary, he is far less belligerently self-righteous and self-aggrandizing than GWB was, or than Limbaugh, Beck, Dobbs, and Hannity are.

14. You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do. You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

I have never heard hate speech from Obama—ever. I defy anyone to find any evidence of Obama demonizing anyone. On the other hand, I’ve seen Limbaugh’s web site with the swastika symbolizing Obama’s policies; I’ve heard Lou Dobbs feeding the fury of “birthers” who choose to ignore the sworn statement of the (Republican) official in charge of records in Hawaii that Obama’s birth certificate is 100% legitimate, “the real deal,” not to mention the announcements of his birth placed in the local newspapers by the local government (not by his parents or grandparents). Limbaugh, Beck, Dobbs, and Hannity use lies and hate speech against Obama every day, and their views get as wide exposure as any news media in the country. I’ve seen the instructions from those who want to derail health care reform on how to disrupt and silence other people’s views at town hall meetings. I haven’t heard of Obama silencing anyone.

15. Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a
similar letter in 8 years.

Notice that this is a feeling of Mr. Pritchett, not based on any kind of evidence or behaviour on Obama’s part whatsoever. Historically, it has been the Republicans who have arranged for spying on American citizens and who have advocated labeling people who hold divergent views “un-American.” Pritchett’s own slurs against Obama demonstrate this.

I can readily imagine that Pritchett’s letter did not get published in the newspaper. It far exceeds the usual length criterion for letters to the editor, and it consists of nothing but accusations based on innuendo and Pritchett’s personal feelings. It offers not one single shred of evidence to support any of Pritchett’s “reasons” for being “scared” of Obama.

What really scares me is that there are actually people out there who can be swayed by this sort of empty rhetoric and propaganda.

Mr. Pritchett is scared because Obama didn’t serve in the military (oh, by the way, most Americans Obama’s age didn’t join the military because they came of age after Vietnam and well before any other major conflict).

Our most successful commanders-in-chief–Lincoln (Civil War), Wilson (WWI), and FDR (WWII)–had no prior military experience when they were elected. By contrast, the presidents during the Korean, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq Wars had prior military experience (I know that’s questionable about GWB, but let’s try to take him at his word for the moment). Now Obama is left to try to clean up the debacle left by his thoroughly incompetent predecessor. Republicans often cite Reagan as a “great” president; however, he never served in the military.

Pritchett is scared of Obama because he never ran a business. Of course, neither did nine out of the thirteen men who have been president during Pritchett’s lifetime. Only Truman, Carter, Bush I, and Bush II had run businesses in their pre-presidential lives. Considering the state of the economy after GWB left office (pretty much the same condition as that of the corporations he led before being elected–virtually bankrupt), having been a businessman is a very dubious criterion for choosing a president.

If you want to persuade thinking people of your views, you will have to give up on insults, innuendoes, and unsupported statements of opinion and offer some actual, verifiable facts.

I am absolutely stunned by the number of uneducated bigots in our country. Pritchett and his lemmings fear Obama only because he is a brilliant, eloquent and thoughtful black man, and they know that the era when our country is run by bigoted white rednecks solely for their own financial gain is coming to an end. That control of others of others–of keeping blacks and latinos “in their place”–is the change they fear so greatly. Loving America is not equated with loving fascist right principles; George Bush was not “America,” and the new America is overwhelmingly a progressive place where people care about our quality of life in the future rather than just maximizing personal wealth at the expense of everything else. You right wingers had your day and you blew it, virtually destroying our economy and our environment. And you got your asses handed to you in the election. Get over it. We live in a democracy and the minority doesn’t get to dictate to the majority. Pritchett is a “patriot” under the new right wing definition: “Patr” taken from “patronizing” and “iot” taken from “idiot.”

It is time we joined the rest of the civilized world and acknowledged the painful truth that capitalism has not given us the “highest standard of living” in the world (that is in the “socialist” Scandinavian countries that brought us that dreaded socialist institution called Ikea.) And we certainly do not have the best health care system. We rank somewhere in the thirties, with shorter life spans, more infant mortality and poorer medical care than any other civilized “first world” country. And we have more people in prison than all of Europe and South America combined. Something is not working right here, and saying it is unpatriotic to try to create a higher quality of life is genuinely pathetic.

(103) Joe says:

I’m not impressed by Pritchett’s rhetorical ploy of presenting in ear-pleasing parallel sentences his vague anxieties and crude misapprehensions. In other words, his “You scare me” doesn’t scare me, at least not for the reason he intended.

Pritchett seems to prefer the exercise of reflexive prejudice to the labor of critical intelligence. I consider the exercise of informed critical intelligence to be one of the key obligations of a citizen.

The second of Prtichett’s “You scare me’s” perhaps gets to the heart of the problem: “You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.” I find that a remarkable admission. That Pritchett knows nothing about a person who’s been on public display for as long as Obama has and whose words and acts are a matter of public record & the object of virtually constant public analysis leaves me to conclude that Pritchett is either tuned out (which I think unlikely) or is determined to substitute suspicions and prejudices for real knowledge obtained from public, verifiable sources. Take one example: “You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.” How much innuendo and insinuation are packaged in that sentence! Interpreted strictly, it says that Obama is or has been a vagrant, subject to vagrancy statutes (that’s where the phrase “without visible means of support” comes from). Seen another way, it suggests that Obama must have made his way in the world by illegal dealings. Pritchett seems to think he’s entitled to make such reckless remarks in a public letter to the president of the United States on the ground that he knows nothing about him, as he admits in the “You scare me” sentence I quote at the beginning of this paragraph. So if a person knows nothing about another person he’s entitled to fill in his ignorance with whatever comes to mind or whatever is rumored or suspected by people of like prejudice??

I’ve said enough to make clear that I consider Pritchett’s remarks irresponsible and a bad example to fellow citizens. I believe they exemplify one of the problems with American civic life today: that we often forget the responsibility of citizens to exercise critical intelligence, substituting for it what we choose to believe, uncritically & without regard for evidence. Now that is scary.

(105) Dave says:

I will certainly not point fingers at specific posters before me – I first have to admit that I read only the first half of the posts, due to time constraints.

I did not vote for President Obama. While I am certainly not a “rabid Republican”, neither am I a RINO (Republican in Name Only). My personal views are much more conservative than the Democratic Party. I personally believe that we need rules, we need to enforce those rules for a successful society, and things will have to fall apart when exceptions are always being made for some.

But when it comes to elections, I vote for specific candidates, not partisan affiliation. I would hope and pray that more Americans would begin to do so. I have voted for Democratic candidates as well as Republican candidates as a result. It is my personal belief, as cynical as it may be, that once you get to that level of the political process, one has to look at where the alliances are. WHO does the candidate owe favors to? At that level, there will always be someone, somewhere that wants payback!

President Obama, though not my choice, is in fact our President, and therefore has my allegiance as such until he proves to be inept or a traitor. I do not agree with where he is taking us financially, and am afraid of the America he will leave to my children and grandchildren. But, he is President, and due that respect.

The greatest fear I have with regard to Mr. Pritchett’s letter is the matter of the birth certificate. Contrary to what has been posted here, it has NOT been released. There are profound differences between birth certicates and certificates of live birth. Here is the text from the State of Hawaii:
“[§338-17.8] Certificates for children born out of State.
(a) Upon application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately preceding the birth or adoption of such child.
(b) Proof of legal residency shall be submitted to the director of health in any manner that the director shall deem appropriate. The director of health may also adopt any rules pursuant to chapter 91 that he or she may deem necessary or proper to prevent fraudulent applications for birth certificates and to require any further information or proof of events necessary for completion of a birth certificate.
(c) The fee for each application for registration shall be established by rule adopted pursuant to chapter 91. [L 1982, c 182, §1]”

Everybody get that?

As long as an adult can walk into Hawaii’s version of the Department of Records and provide proof that they are a legal resident of Hawaii, the document is issued. The child, on the other hand, could have been born in Hawaii, Kenya, or a back-alley in Budapest.

President Obama’s Certificate of Live Birth has been released, but a valid, confirmed Birth Certificate that shows he was in fact a natural-born American has not. If it cannot be produced, then the question will remain as to the legality of his presidency.

As for some of the other points of the letter, as well as some of the rebuttals… They make for entertaining reading, but have little to do with the ability or inability for President Obama to do the job. I know many fine people that were educated via grants and scholarships. This has little bearing on the person in general. My kids and I had to pay for their college educations. I can look at that two ways: 1) I am lucky to be successful enough to not qualify for aid; or 2) I was unlucky in that I had to pay for something that some others did not. I prefer to thank God for my blessings and go on from there!

So, I am left with having to support a president that may or may not be there legally. If proof is not brought out SOON, he should be removed and the “perks” that he and his family have enjoyed since being in office should be repayed. If irrefutable proof IS provided, people need to let it go and allow him his Office.

Either way, you have a choice to make in three more years.

I find Lou’s fear ramble rather sad and pathetic. What is likely true is he IS truely “scared” as he repeatedly states that. I disagree with almost every one of the statements he makes. We could take the statements one by one I suppose but that would be quite time consuming and probably just fall on deaf ears or be a sermon to the choir, depending on your view. I believe the author suffers from a heavy dose of paranoia (unrealistic fears). I have seen the same type of comments circulated around by others from the far far right fringe. But that is beside the point. Cheney would call anyone who didn’t agree with him anti-american and possibly an enemy combatant. Should that type of patriot-questioning go both ways? I don’t think the dems will stoop to that sad level. However, this type of fear mongering has absolutely no constructive purpose and is dangerous to the extent that it incites the crazier unbalanced people on the fringes. I mean you have fools in Texas wanting to secede from the union–really nutty stuff. Psychologically I would say this author and those like him are projecting a lot of their own unacknowledged internal fears, conflicts, prejudices and demons onto Obama. It is as if Obama serves as a Rorschach inkblot –these perceptions have little to do with Obama and a lot to do with the psychology of the persons’ filters.

If Obama scares Mr. Pritchett, perhaps Mr. Pritchett has a guilty conscience or should leave the USA. Better yet, if Mr. Pritchetts’ beliefs are so strong, maybe he should run for President so all the aspects of his life can become an open book… well, as open as the “spinners” will make it. “We the People” is more anarchist than socialist…

Too bad there are still so many who side with a political party. There is actually very little difference between the two, other than family heritage of those in power and rhetoric.

About Obama – when he was Senator he did not participate. He was running for President for two years. In the Illinois state government he was distracted by campaigning for ‘promotion’ to the federal government.

He did not get to the Presidency via leadership and character, he was pushed into it and used charisma.

But, that’s not atypical of a President, considering they are popularly elected by millions who have no exposure to the candidate’s character at all.

One reason the Constitution is meant to limit the privileges powers individuals grant it is so we don’t have unknown people ruling us. The less personally connected one is to another, the more likely they will treat each other with indifference.

If you are loyal to either the Democratic or Republican parties:

Please take the time to read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Anti-Federalist and Federalist papers, Common Sense (original by Paine), and even The Wealth of Nations.

Find out why the US disbanded two central banks before the current one was created during a recess in Congress.

Research the Commission on Presidential Debates, and who controls it.

Study economics. Not just a NYT article by Krugman (chuckle), but read from different schools of thought and compare to what makes sense in the world: the Monetarists, Keynesian, Public Choice, Austrian. A few articles on reputable websites will inform one quite a lot.

Dear Lou Pritchett:

You scare me.

You scare me. You scare me because your words are filled with falsehoods and yet you and others like you believe them.
-President Obama is unlike any President you have had because he is biracial and that scares you because you are uncomfortable with his skin color and don’t know how to admit that.
-You scare me because “after months of exposure” you know nothing about him…why not read his two books published before his presidency. There is more personal information there than we’ve ever had from other presidents.
-You scare me because America is supposed to be a meritocracy. Anyone can be President – not just the children of the rich. Let’s face it – Bush with his poor academic record would never have been admitted to Yale were it not for the fact that he was a “legacy” applicant. His overall grade average was a C and he drank away his time there. Whereas Obama paid for his education through student loans and scholarships. He was chosen to be on the Harvard Law Review an opportunity only offered to the top students at Harvard law. He earned his education on his own. In fact he wrote his two books hoping to pay off the student loans with the proceeds. His upscale lifestyle – his wife was a top corporate attorney and earned a lot of money in addition to his earnings. He unlike W. did not have a rich Daddy who paid for everything including his failures at business.
-You scare me because did you not realize that Hawaii is actually part of the United States – the 50th state to join the union. That’s where he grew up. He lived in Indonesia when he was much younger because his mother married an Indonesian man. Indonesia, if you know your history is one of the least fundamentalist of all Muslim nations. Besides, he was a child when he was there until his mother took him to live with her parents who were originally from Kansas. Culturally he is the most American of Americans – he is the best example of the melting pot.
-You scare me because as we all know Bush W. could never have run a company had his father not bought it for him. And Bill Clinton was an excellent President and he never ran a company either. And under George W.’s watch the country went from having no national debt to owing trillions of dollars because of two unnecessary wars. So even though Bush Jr. had run a company – essentially he ran American into the ground. Were it an actual business instead of a government it would have had to declare bankruptcy he was so fiscally irresponsible.
-You scare me because you think McCain with his military experience would have been a better President? Look at the choice he made for VP – he made himself and America the laughingstock of the world with such a poor choice. Let’s not forget Palin understood all about Russia because she could see it from her window. Bill Clinton didn’t have military experience either and he was an excellent president.
-You scare me because it’s your opinion that Obama lacks “humility” and “class”…I think he is one of the most humble and classiest Presidents we’ve ever been so lucky to have.
-You scare me because you think that because he attended a church with a Pastor who took advantage of his parishioner’s success he is at fault. You blame the victim here…He distanced himself from the Pastor. And as for Bill Ayers…Bill Ayres, a former Weather Underground member – he was a colleague and a neighbor – that’s all.
-You scare me because you would rather have millions of Americans uninsured than have a modest Medicare -type option for those uninsured persons. You work for a big corporation so you personally don’t have to worry. But what about others who don’t have the type of medical coverage you have. Don’t they deserve to be covered? Especially since we pay through our taxes anyway when they go to emergency rooms. Doesn’t Christian doctrine urge us all to care for each other…there but for the grace of God go I…?
-You scare me because you think he is turning the country into a social democracy. He is not. But if you look at the small homogenous countries in Europe who pay huge taxes yes – but no one in those countries worries like we do over health coverage or lack of it. They have better maternity leave, better leave for care of the elderly. They cover daycare costs. We say we are a country that values families but where is the evidence of that? Most families have to pay exorbitant rates for childcare after three months because mothers are forced to return to work. In those supposed horrible social democracies women are able to tend to their children at full salaries for up to one year and sometimes beyond because those countries place value in mothers staying home to take care of their children. They at least walk the talk of valuing family life and encouraging mothers and fathers to be present in the formative years of a child’s life.
-You scare me because you think America has vast oil coal and shale reserves. We should destroy the environment to get at them? Alaska – the last pristine place on this continent? Is that your solution? Short term thinking and the experts say that those reserves would only last us a decade or so…Why not think of the future of this country instead of your own immediate needs. You should be grateful that we finally have a President who is looking toward the future and not just planning for the short term.
-You scare me because maybe you didn’t realize that President Obama bailed out the banks. He definitely didn’t kill the capitalist goose. I suggest you read the paper and listen to news other than Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly and Beck. You might actually learn something instead of listening to an uninformed right wing tirade.
-You scare me because after bailing out the banks you call it “extortion”. Is your head in the sand? Do you not follow mainstream American press?
-You scare me because your party has people that call the President a liar – the most rude and unacceptable behavior that was ever witnessed during a presidentail address. This behavior is something you are proud of?
-You scare me because this President has tried and tried to be bipartisan – even to his own detriment and you say that he doesn’t listen to opposing views. Maybe he doesn’t listen when he is called names like liar – but his door is always open to viable, intelligent ideas. He is more open to building a better America with views from both sides of the aisle than any former President in recent history.
-You scare me because this President so does not think he is omnipotent and omniscient whereas the former president most certainly did sending American men and women off to die in Iraq when our fight was with Bin Laden who was based in Afghanistan – not Iraq. And it gives me great comfort to know that President Obama knows the definition of those words whereas I fear that W. would have had to have an aide tell him their meaning.
-You scare me because the media most certainly does not give Obama a free pass. Think of the TV coverage of health care town hall meetings where protesters called for killing him? It makes me ashamed of my country that people would call for killing the commander in chief. Deeply ashamed.
-You scare me because we all know that Obama doesn’t listen to either the extreme right or the extreme left. He is trying to build consensus and lead us all onto a better, more healthy future for all Americans not just rich white folks.
-You scare me because we both know that listening to O’Reilly, Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity is listening to vicious partisan attacks and does not help move this country forward in anyway whatsoever.
-You scare me because this President inherited a huge deficit, two wars and a host of other problems and is trying to pull all parts of the country together and all you want to do is stir up fear and hatred and other base human emotions instead of realizing this man is trying to lift and move the country forward onto surer, safer, healthier ground.
-You scare me because if you think that you will have lost your freedom of speech if Obama serves a second term which I certainly hope he does (it took W. 8 years to drag us into the mess we’re currently in and will probably take more than eight years to get us out of it) you are sadly mistaken. Obama knows and taught constitutional law at a top university in the US. He would never take away freedom of speech. Although I for one wish Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh and O’Reilly would just finally shut up. I personally wish the four of them would be banned from the airwaves as their sentiments are filled with hatred, appeal only to the basest of human emotions and are frankly un-American.

After these couple years, do you still feel the same way? I really hope not.

This coming from an independent. I do agree with your statement about getting Hannity Beck Limbaugh and O’Reilly to shut up. It’s what they do. They offer a completely conservative view point and if you don’t understand that than of course it’s going to upset you. But the same can be said for the liberal goons, learn to deal with it, politics have always been this way. Develop your own thoughts and criticisms based on facts, not what these people are conveying to the public.

“-You scare me because your party has people that call the President a liar – the most rude and unacceptable behavior that was ever witnessed during a presidentail address. This behavior is something you are proud of?”

And maybe I can agree with that, maybe President Obama’s not lying. But I really hope you’ve paid attention to the hypocrisy and circles he’s been running his entire time in office.

“The media covers both sides”. Riiight. Obama has that peacock eating out of his pocket… no, his hand, our pockets! Funny how Obamites avoid FoxNews like the plague: ever ask yourselves what it is you’re afraid to learn?
You defend Obama’s unAmerican roots (they’re Not just NON American!) by asking:
“How many of those that wrote our Constitution were born in the USA?”
How silly is THAT question, considering?
“I will read your book . . .once you tell me that you will read Obama’s” This presupposes that Obama wrote Obama/s books. Interesting that book-a-year Ayers stopped publishing for the two years before “Obama’s” books came out. Equally curious are all the nautical references in a book “by” a guy who’s never hung around boats or water. Oh, Ayers is a confirmed sailor.

I suppose Rev Manning is revealing HIS racism when he denounces BO as a “long legged, half breed, Muslim illegal alien Mack Daddy”? Better look him up before you answer that one.
Oh, and what COLOR is YOUR skin, saritha, that we are supposed to let you disparage us? What color is MINE? Do you even know who it is that you are calling filthy names? Shame on you.

(118) Pritchett says:

Yaaaawn… Let the liberal lemmings rant and rave and point fingers all they want. The Dems have been in power for the last 4 years, yes, 4 years, and have done absolutely nothing with that power. Now their own party is falling apart, scrambling to break free, likes rats on a sinking ship. Neither party is perfect, but if people are so blind that they can’t see what is going on right in front of you liberal little faces, then you get what you deserve. At least with G.W. we knew what we were getting, we dealt with it, we blamed and pointed fingers and yet, YOU the dems have done nothing to improve the current situation except, wait for it….. POINT FINGERS AGAIN! Keep pointing those fingers people, that’s how things get done! I keep hearing the lemmings above wanting to put Pritchett on trial on how he obtained his education or stature. But he isn’t the president, he hasn’t run for president, and yes, he’s met most of the 13 presidents he has lived under. Privilege of the job. NOW, if he were to run for president, oh please do, he should and would have to succumb to thorough financial checks, family history and the like. But he isn’t, so his education and status isn’t the problem here. Neither is Obama’s, however, where did he get all that money for college? Grants, loans, great! How about that big house on the hill, Mortgages, loans, great! But he is still scary, spent 4 of his 6 years of his governmental services campaigning, has done nothing to speak of during his first year in office and will accomplish only the dismantling of our great nation by the end of his 4 years. Why should I give up my health care plan if it works for me? So I can pay into the same pool as everyone else? What if I want to see a specialist? Oh wait, I can’t because the pool doesn’t allow it. Just a grittier version of an HMO. Stop playcating the Axis’ of evil, stop apologizing for past presidents, stop acting like a little school girl who just got her first period. That isn’t what the President is supposed to do! You are supposed to be a figure of hope and solidarity and strength. I hoped, I wanted change, and guess what, you fell short, haven’t produced, and I HOPE for CHANGE again. The sooner the better.

Chill out Lou. I once heard a sermon in a Baptist church that Proctor and Gamble were run by Satanists. I confronted the pastor, a friend of mine, to challenge him on the source and validity of his information. He told me that he had received an email, and apparently, so had thousands of other pastors around the world. It was a smear campaign using gullible Christian churches to spread the word. Now Lou, I can assure you, that you’re like my old pastor friend who was scared of you, the big bad wolf. ‘The Sky is falling!’ cried Chicken Little. As to universal free health care: my uncle had an accident on a train in England back in the 1970’s; he was in hospital for a month. Do you know what that terrible socialist constitutional monarchy did to him? They gave him the best treatment at no cost to the old man or his family. If he’d had the same accident in the USA, his family would probably be paying for it to this day. I am currently watching the tv series, ‘The Wire’, set in Baltimore. I suggest that you watch the series, and decide to help your fellow country men. I’m no great supporter of Barack Obama. I am against his support of homosexuality and abortion, but I will not slander him unnecessarily over things that are not of his doing or things that are beyond his control.

Lou is right and though his letter my be sophomoric, you have to look at the intended recipient and Lou is speaking of the state of our country as it exists and its current leader! George Bush is gone and no he wasn’t perfect he’s a POLITICIAN! We voted for Obama because he was brought forth as the savior America needed with Hope and Change. Guess what; Obama is same as Bush a POLITICAN, making no progress just excuses. Lou Pritchett didn’t praise Bush or anyone in the political class.
Lou Pritchett is neither child of privilege nor a POLITICAN, he wasn’t given a free ride, he worked 36 years starting as salesman to become Vice-President, Sales and Customer Development for Procter and Gamble. He is a proven teacher and job creator not a company destroyer and government job creator. His books inspire people to believe in themselves and become producers not to praise himself and known haters of Freedom and liberty and lovers of mooching. Read Lou’s books and you will get an insight in to individual responsibility and self worth.

Hey right wingers, where is your supporting argumentation? Where is your factual data or links?
NO WHERE.

Its all fascist style disinformation and fear mongering on the part of the radical paranoid right, and they don’t bother with rational arguments or evidence like eeducated liberals do.

In this hyperpartisan, simplistic politics world of ours, we are given false choices. I.E Bush BAD & Obama GOOD or of course Bush GOOD & Obama BAD. So, think outside the box… I think Bush was a lousy president in most respects, and Obama is a terrible president. Bush borrowed and spent trillions of dollars we don’t have, and then Obama raised the stakes big time and spent even more trillions than Bush. Whoever you like, you have to admit that Bush paved the way for Obama, and that makes them both really bad guys for this once great nation. I too fear Obama. Know a person by his associates… Look at Obama’s associates past and present… Presently, crony capitalists like GE’s Jeff Immelt and union thugs like Trumka. Bottom line, America… Obama is a test. Are you up to this test? Are you even showing up for this test, getting involved and speaking out?
And those of you justifying Obama’s bad behavior experience by pointing out Bush or McCain’s flaws? It is of course completely to justify one person’s bad behavior by pointing at another’s bad behavior.

Sounds like David Emery is a Democrat who wants Obama to serve another 4 years. Of course most of the media does back the Democrats. I’m really not sure why the media backs the Democrats. If the Democrats were in power for multiple years, there would be no military and then no America. Then their free speech would be gone too. You would think the media would back the military who backs their free speech.
As far as I don’t know what I’m talking about….I was in the service in the military under Republicans and Democrats. Believe me, the military doesn’t like Democrats. The Democrats cut all our funding, pay, and equipment. The military is about $10 above the poverty line now. As I said…mulitple years of Democrats there would be no military. As you can see now, Obama wants to cut funding to the military. Isn’t that correct, David?

(140) Jared says:

Just remember(sarcastic font), It wasn’t socialism when republicans agreed that the government needed to bail out the companies that got us into this financial mess; it was just necessary to preserve our economy. Ignore the fact that the Government grew more under Bush, and a republican congress, than any other President in history. It’s not socialism if we provide education, roads, sanitation and all other social apparatuses, but, if we provide health services, we’re dabbling in Marxism. A 3% tax hike for the wealthiest Americans is akin to Communism. It’s best for things to trickle down from the top. Don’t worry that this Reaganistic approach has been disproved by every economist who doesn’t work for Fox or the WSJ. All people who need help, especially those of color, are simply looking for a hand out; this included Obama, according to one of the brilliant bloggers on this site.

I think, in the end, all anyone is really saying is “you’re black; you scare me”

This is not a defense of Obama, as I am extremely disappointed with many things that he has done, including the continued spending habits of Republicans. He has done nothing for gay rights, which pleases many on this site, I’m sure. He has escalated the situation in Afghanistan with more troops and has not closed Guantanamo. He has also done nothing for immigration. At least he has the recent killing of Bin Laden to rest his hat on for a while. Won’t last for long, Obama, especially if this recovery continues to falter.

I’m happy to hear conflicting opinions in this matter,as I believe iron sharpens iron, and debate is a fantastic thing.
It’s not lost on this liberal that we have incredible freedoms, including this forum, where we have no fear of retribution. God bless America!!(i’m wearing my stars and stripes button up cowboy shirt)

(141) Clay says:

I’d agree, it’s a bit ridiculous to point the finger that providing health care services would be “marxist.” Ohhh god forbid.

You’re dealing with different types of entities in that sense…Highway Trust Fund/Transportation Development Districts/Tolls pay for roads (Tolls are Public/Private Parternships generally), sanitation is obvious as well as education. Sanitation..well, you really can’t just say “I want my poop to travel to that town to get treated!” So no option there, so who cares.

I feel like if they TOTALLY controlled education there would be a very unhappy group of people. Personally, I greatly enjoyed public schools all my life but it was nice to know I could go to a private school if I had the choice. Not that these are much different, but there was a freedom and there is obviously a massive price to pay if you wanted to go to private school.

I feel this is going to be the same way with health care – however, What happens to those people who can’t pay Obama Care? They’ll get taxed! Oh god where is that money going to come from? People that can’t pay for health care premiums will probably just look at it as “well, paying the tax premiums is just more of a slap on the wrist and it’s cheaper anyway, may as well keep defaulting on my health insurance payments.” I really see a dire situation arising if this does go all the way through.

September 15, 2011 at 3:49 am
(142) Clay says:

This is something I acknowledge and hate because everyone DOES deserve healthcare, I am totally for that – and if the government can realistically subsidize it (and effectively if everyone does have health care and IS paying for it, premiums should be cheaper). But realistically, you’re going to have to immediately take that premium out of of everyone’s check before it gets to them if this is going to work. And you or someone in your family (wife etc) needs to have been employed within a certain time frame…if you get laid off, give them a year extension or something. Those are just my thoughts ideas on it, and I’m truly scared it’s going to tank if it does go through.

I personally enjoy my family doctor and after a few years, maybe it would be many years, of full on Obamacare I truly don’t believe I would have the choice of what doctor I would get to see.

I can see where you’re coming from with the “you’re black you scare me comment”…there are gonna be the Beck/Limbaugh type folks blogging… but it’s pretty outlandish to think the majority of people, specifically conservative, are saying or think that. It may be different in my specific case and group of friends, but many of us are white middle class Americans who voted Obama and have become pretty disappointed in his tenure so far. The false promises and hypocrisy are really what have hit home to us anyway.

And bashing what would most likely be a majority of conservative readers by saying they are pleased that Obama hasn’t done anything for gay rights…ugh, I’m going to let you figure out why that is pretty insulting. Gives your other liberals a bad name.

But for the most part I’d agree with you! Happy debating :) P.S…I really hope you were wearing that shirt. God bless America!

It’s not surprising in the least that now over 3 years later, Lou Pritchett was exactly on target. As I re-read Carl’s “rebuttal”, the only aspect of it worthy of comment was his constant reference back to that devil-BusHitler.

We have never had a president that has worked as hard as The Zero to destroy this country. His autocratic use of executive order, recess appointments and administrative rule-making by faceless unaccountable librul zealots has been the very esseense of tyranny.

And that is precisely where the leftists of this world would take us. Tyranny.

Only THEY know best. Only THEY have the most excellent intentions. Only THEY can make the right “smart” choices for the rest of us.

Pritchett had it right. This ass-clown has scared me plenty. The sooner we can send him packing, the sooner this country can recover from all the damage he has inflicted.

By overwhelming majorities, the American people want ObamaCare repealed. Dodd-Frank has to go.

In three years Our Savior has racked up more debt than did his predecessor in 8 years. And it’s impossible to escape the conclusion that he’s doing all this on purpose.

He’s not one of us. By contrast, Herman Cain is one of us. Sarah is one of us. Michelle Bachmann is one of us. Rick Santorum is one of us.

We have had our small Mortgage banking company since 1982. At one time we had 12 employees,we are down to 2. we went from a 3500 square foot office to 1000. Our employees had health insurance and 401k’s, today they do not and neither do I.
Between Dodd-Frank and Federal Reserve regulations our business has been completely taken over by the government. We are regualted on how much we can make on a transaction. How we get paid and what we can charge. How much we can pay our loan officers and how we pay them. In addition to all that we a required to get finger printed,FBI background checks, 3 tests and hours of continuing education.
In addtion to all that we are required to send in a quarterly report that shows we didn’t make to much money our pay our employees to much.
We are also required to disclose how much money we make when we take a loan application. If our closing costs are off we are required to pay back the difference to the consumers. about 20% of the closts in a transaction are charged by us. Most of the charges come from Tite Companies and other 3rd parties vendors involved in the transaction.
Most of the new regulation dumped on our industry was lobbied for by the Big Banks. In fact just to keep the playing field level the banks do not have to comply with the same guidelines as we do. There loan officers are not required to take tests, they are not regulatied on how they get paid nor do the banks have to disclose how much they make on a transaction. Welcome to America,Home of the Free enterprise system, unless you want to run your own small business.
