On the fluffier side of the news, today's date features a trio of nines — 9-9-09 — which of course has to mean something, so numerologists have been duly consulted and tell us the date is "extraordinary" because it combines the numbers 11, 9, and 2, which apparently have something to do with brotherhood, interconnectedness, and change.
Maybe you can make more sense of it than I can.
In practical terms, 9-9-09 seems to be the new 8-8-08, which is to say we can expect a lot of folks to get married today because they think it's lucky, or perhaps just memorable. It's no 7-7-07, mind you — and at least one numerologist, Jerome Carter, says it's positively unlucky to get married when the date comes up triple-nines — but Vegas is betting on a bumper crop of weddings in any case.
Unless, of course, the world comes to an end today, which the more pessimistic numerologists among us insist is a distinct possibility.
Self-contradictory hogwash, you say? The Skeptic's Dictionary agrees: "Since there are no occult meanings to numbers and since numbers by themselves can have no significant influence on anyone's life, numerology is nothing but superstition masquerading as science or art."
One man's hogwash is another man's wedding date. Thus it has ever been.

7 is the number of man. 8 is the number of God. 9 is the number of judgement. If any of you studied the Bible you would know that. Take some time and study the Bible. The King James Study Bible would be a good place to start.
7 is the lucky number of the western world. However, according to Chinese beliefs, the number 8 is considered lucky as it sounded almost the same as the Chinese word for prosperous. 9 in Chinese beliefs sounded exactly the same as eternity. So it’ll true that this is not wrong. Perhaps those couples who wanted to marry at this date believed in the Chinese beliefs.
