What next, indeed. Here's what really happened:
Last month, per announced schedule, an Obama administration task force charged with developing a comprehensive plan for managing U.S. ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems stopped taking public input so it could prepare its final report.
In an op-ed piece published yesterday, ESPNOutdoors.com columnist Robert Montgomery characterized that development as follows: "The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters" (emphasis added).
Apocalyptic doomsaying ensued.
The trouble is, while it's true that the plan could impose restrictions on commercial or recreational fishing in some places, there have been no specific proposals to do so to date, and not a shred of evidence that the plan may include an outright "ban" on fishing (see the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force's interim report, released last September).
The real thrust of Montgomery's column is that sport fishermen need to speak up for their rights before the plan is adopted to ensure no such thing happens. Fair enough. In the meantime, we can do without any more works of fiction on the order of "Obama to Propose Ban on Sport Fishing."

The point is, there was a much better, more effective way of handling this…
1.) They could have issued a loud and obvious public notification of any “drop dead” date for input and recommendations. They didn’t.
2.) They could have made public the intent of this “strategy” and provide some assurance that the Administration was in favor of maintaining as much, if not all public access and fishing rights as they presently have. They didn’t.
Fact is, no one really knows the full intent of this “strategy”. What I find particularly galling about Obama’s behavior is that he and his administration are cloaked in this veil of secrecy and they then say to the public, “Trust Us.”
No. I don’t think I shall trust you or your Administration, Mr. Obama. I don’t believe that would be a wise thing to do at all.

It seems many people remain gullible to the rumors and outright lies about our president. This has been happening since before the campaign even started. I wish people would think for themselves and find out the facts before getting on the bandwagon and believing everything they here about “our rights being taken away”.
A lot of the hoopla comes from not handling situations in a clear above board manner, and that is one of the big failures of the Obama administration. It seems that the “Yes We Can” motto is being carried into the actions of the administration, we got elected, “Yes We Can” do whatever we want to do and we don’t owe anyone an explanation for our actions. The least they could have done when they decided to take the public’s opinion was set a limit date for receiving input, that way the conspiracy theorists can’t jump to conclusions, although God knows they will, (to all nonbelievers, use the word of your choice). What the administration needs to do is look at ways of enhancing sport fishing without piling regulation upon regulation on the sport fishermen of the nation, there are too many of them as it is… At any rate, sport fishing within the state’s waters should be the domain of the state to regulate, not the federal government. Are we going to become a socialist state where the politburo dictates and the congress rubber stamps? That model has failed miserably in the last 20 years, what makes the current administration think it will work in the US today?
It is my opinion, and yes I voted for McCain, that its unbelievable that we are even talking about a possible, and I stress possible, restriction on sport fishing. I read yesterday that on yahoo new article that sport fishing encompasses approximately 3% of the fish caught? This is beyond belief. Another overstepping of federal authority by the current administration.

Even though it’s a strategy that might possibly be implemented, it sounds like Napalitano’s paper labeling church goers, anti-abortionists, prior military, etc., as radical extremists. That, too, was just running ideas up the flag pole. If they wrote it, they intend to do it.

Whether or not Obama tries to take over fishing, there is no reasonable reason to believe he won’t one day. He is a Statist who could not care less about our Constitution. The amazing part is that he has defenders as he drags this country down.

I feel that the fed gov. should let the local state gov. decide about fishing regulations and (which they already do thru our wildlife agencys) these department were set up just for this purpose. The individuals that run these depts are educated in marine biology and other related fields. Are we trying to eleminate more jobs????? I believe that the gov. needs to focus on more serious matters than where my dad and I can go fishing!!!
