Does This Picture Show President Obama Praying at a Mosque?

By , About.com GuideMarch 18, 2010

Follow me on:

"This is OUR President at a MOSQUE prayer session LAST WEEK AT THE WHITE HOUSE," reads an email currently circulating with the above image attached. It's entitled, "Look Who's Praying."

"For Obama to continue as our President is an INSULT TO OUR FOUNDING FATHERS! AND DISGUSTING TO EVERY RED BLOODED AMERICAN," the email continues.

Rant if you will, anonymous emailer, but there is not now, nor has there ever been, a mosque on the White House grounds. And since when is taking off one's shoes called "praying"?

An excellent rebuttal again David. Not that it will matter to the tea baggers…

The other huge miss is the fact that the Inauguration occurs at the Capitol, not the White House. For people who claim to have their ‘Americanism’ as the basis for their ire, they sure don’t know much about their country.

If you look just behind the President, you will notice a woman. Women are not allowed to pray with the men. So please stop this. Our nation is in troubled times.

I am a conservative and I was wondering if this picture was what it was described to be. If I am going to accuse anybody of anything I want to be sure my facts are straight. It did appear as if the self proclaimed author was assuming or embellishing. Thank you.

Thank you, Dan. I appreciated your candor and willingness to hear a rational explanation. I am a liberal, and I was afraid folks like you were long-gone. Perhaps I will get some other signs.

The surrounding building looks to be of Arab or Persian influence. I’m a conservative Christian and I would pray at a Mosque, but I would be praying in Jesus name.

The isrealites were not supposed to pray at thee high places because that is hat he pagans did. God wanted us to be set apart thats part of what holy means look it up. a mosque is most certaily not there in honer of God, tobe in a place lik that would be to show you that you either accept what they say and do or you are totaly ignorant. regaurdless the Bible also tells us to avoid he apeaarance of evil, hence the isrealites repeatedly told to tear to down the alers in the high places.

It is a custom to take off one’s shoes when entering mosque worldwide. So President Obama shows respect to the custom.
