Updated Sep. 17, 2011 - The "Kayla Scott" chain letter continues to circulate, more than a year after it was first posted on Facebook. I still don't have enough information to confirm whether the original posting was true or false, but I can tell you that the version making the rounds as of mid-September 2011 is both outdated and erroneous.
We have no reason to believe that anyone named Kayla Scott is connected in any way with a child who injured himself with a brad nailer. The woman's name was inserted into the prayer request long after it first began circulating, nor was this the first time it happened. As you'll see below, no fewer than seven versions of the text have circulated, each naming a completely different "mother."
Updated Oct. 13, 2010 - Friend-of-a-friend prayer requests are circulating via Facebook on behalf of a 22-month-old boy who is allegedly in critical condition after shooting himself in the chest with a brad nailer (nail gun).
So far I've been unable to verify whether or not such an incident actually took place. There've been no mentions in online news venues, nor do any of the anecdotal reports on Facebook and Twitter cite sources or specify a location.
They do purport to name the child's mother, however. As you'll see in the variants below, we have more than half-a-dozen candidates to date. The oldest posting I've come across was dated Wednesday, August 4, 2010, and names "Deedee Parsons Simpson" as the mother. The newest claims the mother's name is "Kayla Scott" (or "Kayala Scott").
Examples of the chain letter:

Interesting timing on your article. I just saw this posted on FB again today. It never mentioned the child’s name, where they live, the hospital’s location or any important info like that.
I did a Google search and found multiple accounts of this story, but with different mother’s names, just as you have here. I agree that this is a hoax. It’s not yet on snopes, though. Why would someone make such a sick claim like this anyway?
mad hatted mad hatted http://google.com – mad hatted
I agree I do believe it is in face a hoax and some one has a very sick mind…
Mostly because people do not check the validity of the posts. I fell for another claim about how the postal service was going to start charging for emails (many years ago) and sent the message out. What I recieved within minutes were people who were angry with what I posted and they quickly showed me the error of my post. Decided then and there never to send these things out without checking first. People are just too quick to post. On the ones that start it back Well it probably never stopped and it takes about 3 to 4 months before it makes its way back in our own messages. I figured it takes that long to go around the world and reach back to us. Sorry for the rambling…
Yes I agree with you, I saw it today from a friend, and looked it up. What kind of a sick would do or say suck a terrible thing as a joke?!
I must recant my agreement with you. I found someone claiming to be the child’s father on prayercloset.muliply.com at this link: http://prayercloset.multiply.com/notes/item/2388
This is what the man stated:
“The child’s name is Hayden and he is my son. I’m pleased to report that he will be leaving the hospital on Thursday as soon as he receives his last dose of antibiotics. Thank you so much for the prayers for his recovery, he is a miracle. The accident happened on 7/29/10, and he has been at Carle clinic in champaign, il since then. His big sister(almost 5) had helped him out of his crib while I was downstairs… I had been in and out all afternoon working on window trim while he was taking a nap. Yes, I should have unhooked it before walking away, and trust me I’ve thought about it constantly since then. Kinda hard not to blame myself, thank God he had his hand on my boy. I never would have even had the nailer out had he been awake. (don’t think it wont haunt me forever thinking about how close i came to losing my son) The “nailer” or pinner by the way is just a little bigger than a staple gun, definitely lighter than 4-6#s….2.2#s per manufacturers specs to be exact. It also requires very little pressure on the front plunger for it to go off, after all it is a trim nailer and is designed that way to avoid marring up finished trim by having to push to hard. I know lots of people picture a large framing nailer and think no way a 2 year old could have done that. The DCFS case worker that investigated the incident thought the same thing, until she went to my house and saw how small and easy to set off it was. And as far as all the different names going around that’s just because of the copying and pasting prayer request from facebook ect. The good thing is God knows the names and where to direct the healing, which he has done!!! So thank you to all who lifted us up in prayers, we are so blessed!”
So, I guess this goes to show that odd things do happen, if this is true, and that people seriously need to be careful when cutting and pasting. Did everyone forget how to do that after school ended for them? >.<
I would think that there would be something in champanges paper about this, also living close to there i am sure i would of heard something about it. really dont think it is true, and that is very sad to me
its a hoax, its on snopes now too. even the fathers letter has variants.
“I had been in and out all afternoon working on window trim while he was taking a nap.”
Now, I’m not a father, but if you’re lucky enough for your 22-month old to take a nap in the middle of the day, I’m not sure the first thing you’d do is grab a brad nailer and start banging out window trim in his room while he’s sleeping.
THANK YOU!!! FINALLY….Someone with some common sense!
My 22 month old takes a nap everyday and we do a lot of renovations in the house while he sleeps. Never once has he woken up. So yeah, I beleive it.
Wow, 22 months old? Naps everyday? Renovations all the time, and while he sleeps too! Talk about coincidence!
Why do people lie about such pointless crap?
Eva your right but please learn how to spell!!!
Hahahaha, I believe that should be *Eva, you’re right…
For Lis, LOL! So glad you pointed that out! Can’t stand all this knit picking… ugh!!!!!!
yup, a frend post this an whenn i fuhst sah this i just praid an praid an praid. wonted to kno mor infermayshun so ah googuhled it an whut the hekk!? i saw this crap! so sad. yup so bad!!!!!!!!!!!
*wink wink ;^D
OMG…. I hope you are a male when I say this!!! Will you marry me.. the first common sensical person I have seen on this subject.. it’s such BS.. not even funny but super sad!!
@Encyclopedia Brown… key phrase : “Now, I’m not a father…” Exactly. My 26 month old son naps everyday for 1.5 hours. The life of a parent involves getting as much done as possible while the little ones are not running around.
I originally started the post about the nail gun and the little boy shooting himself in the chest. I got my info from my daughter in law who therefore got it from a friend of hers. It actually did happen. I did send up prayers for him and his mother and posted it at my church. I praise God that he is doing fine.
I am with Charlie!!!!!
Prove it please.. I too, got it from a friend.. and everything out there says it is a hoax!!! Prove it!!!! Tell us what hospital… where are the news accounts?? What is the real name of the parents??
It cost nothing but your time to send up a prayer.
thank you,i dont believe this is a hoax.god knows
Either you are very naive or just refuse to finish reading what snopes had to say on it.. one reporter UNDER that supposed dad’s statement went searching for the verification from the supposed hosp.. wasn’t there.. no proof of it with emergency services… no proof in the newspapers.. on the news.. NOTHING!!! Go FINISH reading the Snopes page on it.. then rethink all the evidence .. *LOL*
What does it really matter, such bickering. Our Lord tells us to pray for those in need, He does not say to thoroughly vet and investigate each prayer request received. Point being, if it is a hoax, shame on the knowing perpetrator, but if you took the time to post and pray based off of belief and in good faith, praise God.
the story about Hayden is true….its the rest that are hoaxes playing off of that story…..
Ok, what none of you seem to realize is this, NOT EVERYTHING is reported in the Media!! IE: Telivision, newspapers, internet news outlets, TMZ, ETC!!! Just becuase you can’t find tangible proof of this accident in NO WAY makes it a hoax! To me those that see it as a hoax are just as sick as the person who started said hoax. Not everything can be proven if you are not part of the “circle” of what is happening. I will pray for said child. When and IF i find out that it truly is a hoax then I will pray for the person who started such a sick and devious rumor!!
When I first saw this, I did pray. I wanted to know the outcome on this child, and when I searched it, I found some posting back in the Spring.
I do believe its a hoax. However, I do not understand the purpose of the hoax.
My saying now is well, the original poster may have wasted some valuable prayer time for attention, but there may be a baby out there who needs our prayer.
Valuable “prayer time”? As if your prayers are going to help.
There “may be a baby out there who needs our prayer”?
There are babies suffering out there day in and day out throughout the world. It’s called life aka reality.
Considering your god made it this way, how about praying for him to change it?
Why is it that God gets the blame for what men and women do to one another, and especially to children? God grieves when we choose to mistreat one another. He gave us a free choice. We aren’t robots. Children suffer because of man, not God. People are hungry because we don’t feed them out of our abundance. Shame on you for blaming a loving God for what evil men and women do to others.
I agree with Chad — please!!! There was a study just done and people who were prayed for in the study did worse then those that did not — I wish I could find the link for that if I can I will repost again!
God didn’t make it this way! Man did!! Everything was fine until man sinned. Man brought all suffering and pain to us! Yet God loved us enough to come here in flesh and take on our pain and suffering so in the end we’ll live forever without pain and suffering!! God will change things in his timing!
Somewhere deep down you must believe in God! You’re asking us to pray to him!
Tina, I have been going round and round with this supposed “father” of Hayden, the supposed 22-month old who shot himself. The blog/post that you’re referring to is turning into a battle zone, especially Christian against Christian. If you go to that site, my display name is PrazB2JC and you can see what I mean. I did an extremely thorough research of this alleged incident. As in my prior posts, no proof, no validation, no details. The “father” states that his son is doing well in Champaign IL at Carle Clinic/Hospital. First of all, I called the hospital and while the receptionist could not give out any confidential info, which I totally understood, I asked if she, herself, had heard of this accident. She said “no, but that’s not uncommon”. I phoned the News-Gazette to inquire about this tragedy; they stated they had not heard anything about this. I went through the police call records from 07.29.2010 through 5 days post-accident, and there is no mention of a call in this area having to do with a toddler and a nailer. Supposed father filled out a partial profile on prayercloset.multiple.com in which he lists his home state as “Pennsylvania”. The name he uses is “Robert”. So, what’s a guy living in PA, but working on his home in Champaign IL, trying to pull??? This world is getting sicker and sicker!
I am so so ashamed I fell for this… I read the Kayala Scott post last night… it broke my heart so that I began posting the prayer request to all of my friends walls on FB… since I just read this article I have posted an apology on my profile and to that of my closest friends… I am so so disgusted and apalled that someone would make something like this up… I am so angry right now, it is a good thing that the perpetrator should be most happy he or she is not standing in front of me right now… While I am not a person prone to violent behaviors this is the kind of thing that can provoke me to have them. Not because I have been made a fool of, but because this person is sick enough to think of a thing like this as a joke. I hope the originator is found and brought to the utter shame that he or she deserves to suffer.
none of you should feel bad about falling for this. these scam artists are good…too good. if the site owner of facebook payed closer attention to his site, things like this might not happen. these people love to play on people’s emotions. I was looking for my father for about three months. someone was following my websearches and sent me an e-mail stating my father passed away and left me money in some far off country. I hate people like this and they should be severely punished for what they do. and they wonder why nobody shows compassion when something really does happen. it’s the old “cry wolf” story
that is not even a funny prank by any one teresa lynch is my mother in laws name if that got very far it would make her look like a horrible person that she is not and she is 40 some years old she doesnt even have a 22 month old she has a 2 month old
Yes, because your mother in law is the ONLY person alive with the name Teresa Lynch, so I can see how people would assume it was her. /sarcasm.
I hope that the prayers generated by these posts does SOMEONE some good….God knows where it is needed. The perpatrator of any hoax will have to deal with the karma when it comes around…….A friend of mine posted the prayer request, and I asked her where sh had heard of this….i haven’t recieved an answer yet…..
I do not know if this is true or not although I did send my prayers. If it is a hoax shame on them but I certainly do not feel bad for sending my prayers.
I can’t believe that any of you are mad and upset because you prayed for someone. Whether or not it was a real prayer request shouldn’t matter. What does matter is the attitude you are taking now. So you took the time to say a prayer for someone you thought needed a prayer and now you think you WASTED a prayer. No prayer is ever wasted. Prayer is a talk with God about a concern you have, whether it be for you or someone else. If this is what your prayers are about then NEVER WASTE YOUR PRAYERS ON ME!!!
It has nothing to do with wasted prayers it has to do with being lied to and for me worrying myself crazy, thinking how as a Mother I would be able to deal and the sadness I felt for a precious baby that was hurting, intense anger at the thought that a parent could be so irresponsible as to leave dangerous equipment around. All these emotions that a Mom feels when any child is hurting.I am not worried about wasted prayers apparently they are needed for the sick person that took the time to make this up
Gina, when ppl generate such a tremendous lie such as this one, can you really blame the reaction to find out the truth? This so-called prank could be(and probably is) a virus set to retreive ALL your personal, valuable info from your computer, or whatever! I dont think prayers were wasted, because God directs them where they belong. However, to sympathize with this intruder of PPL’s emotions IS DEFINETLY NOT going to happen! You mentioned that PRAYERS are a genuwine CONCERN, right? Well Im sure the concern should really be WHO, WHERE, and most of all,WHY a person would INTENTIONALLY pass around such a horrific lie! Especially when there are REAL TRADGEDIES happening in this world.
I feel the same way. Even if it is a hoax I’m glad I prayed.
Try this!!! Because I LOST a child that lay in a coma for 8 days before they announced her brain dead… and I don’t take lightly to someone LYING about any child in any such a dire situation. So why be mad??? There are REAL prayers needed for REAL children.. don’t waste our time on hoaxes when there are real children dying every day and need those prayers.. you have not suffered a lost that is obvious and I pray you never do.. but don’t question why a lie about a child would outrage alot of people such as myself!!
Yes – While prayer is always Good – YET –
This story just goes to show how Gulible most Christians are – If people will fall for a story like this. THAT is the Problem with this whole story!
* What will happen in the End Times when the evil one will bring about the Great Deceptiion?
If we do not do better to research, Christians will fall for anything – Just as Christians fell for for someone like Obama. Many of them voted for him in the last election.
We need to do better research like PrazB2JC did and Not believe any story as gospel!
Jesus warned us to be WISE as Serpents – yet Gentle as Doves!
And He also said we MUST Stay Awake!!
We need to pray that Christians will not be so gulible!
I cant understand ho any christian can say we need to do bettter research. What saddens me the most is that the skeptisism alone shows what this world is coming to. it is heart breaking that when someone recieves a prayer request, instead of just praying they feel they must verify that it is legit. Things often happen without making it to the paper. the fact that someone would be so skeptical as to claim they callled the hospital to check it out shows that they need prayer themselves. all these sites calling this prayer request a hoax are just as sick because after all, how do you really know?
I so agree with you and for someone to sit there and say that we are not Christians because we fall for something like that…How can you not be sad to hear that a baby is hurt.
You are by far the most ignorant person on this post. You make a brash generalization about how “Christians” are soooo gullible and it’s all “Christians” fault Obama is in the office. Are you stupid? Or just a wacko?
First of all, if we’re going to be talking about what Jesus told us to do, he said Love One Another. If one’s first reaction is to pray, then so be it! God forbid someone over-prays! Do you honestly go back and doublecheck every scenario or story before you offer up a quick prayer? How nosy! And paranoid!
Does Jesus telling us to love one another allow you to call Sherry 1.) “the most ignorant person on this post”, 2.) stupid, and 3.) a wacko? Seriously, people, do we really have to tear each other down over this? It happened. Some of us believed it and some didn’t. But, please, don’t tear each other down on your way to being heard in this post or any other post.
i like ur statement but lost u on the obama part what did he do wrong bush left several garbage bags behind for him to deal with . bible says some things are just meant to happen for other things to come to past. plz reply back
What on earth does Christianity have to do with a presidential election and moreover, where did you get your statistics from?
This whole thread is so laughable. I cannot get over the amount of stupidity this has fostered.
It looks to me as if the evil one has brought out the Great Deception!!
May the good Lord wipe the negitivity from your heart, and take pitty on your soul..
In the end… We will have nothing to worry about,
because it was the worry, genuine concern and compassion that filled our hearts throughout our lives..
It was the relationship.. The conversations we had with our Father..
That will save us in the end..
Only God knows all things. We will all stand before Him & be judged on Truth. He knows the true motive of our hearts & we are commanded to walk in love …….. not fear. If the enemey can get us afraid to pray because we haven’t researched everything first …….. then that would be the {Real Tragedy} of all this. I would hate to think that when things are urgent & I needed prayer quickly ….. that all God’s children would have to do a complete research first. Why should we “EVER” be afraid to pray ……….. what do we have to lose? Do not let the Power’s of Darkness get this Victory ………… Fellow Soldiers of God! Do soldiers get the full scoop before they fight? No they just Follow their Commander. “Just has we follow ours ……. and Jesus said: Pray one for another.” He never said ………. be sure you do all your research first …….. then pray one for another.
THE POST ABOUT THE 22 MONTH OLD IS NOT MY CHILD I JUST REPOSTED IT FROM SOMEONE ELSE POST THEN SOMEONE REPOSTED IT FROM MY POST N COPIED MY NAME ON IT…SO PLZ IF YOU REPOSTED IT TAKE MY NAME OFF OF IT..thx
I reposted this as well! I feel bad that it may be a hoax but I dont feel my prayers or intentions where a wast. God knew where my prayers where needed, and who is to say there is not a baby and family out there going threw this awful experience. It is a BIG World and stranger things have happened! It is sick that someone would make this up and pass it around not being true, but I say no prayer made is wasted! God Bless all of us in all of our needs big and small that only he knows! Just continue to be a good person and love the people around you the way he would he will take care of the punishment for those who need it.
http://community.babycenter.com/post/a23785237/hold_your_babies. For what its worth the boy is said to be at Carle clinic and foundation hospital in champagne IL. And the accident is said to have taken place in Macon Co IL. I don’t know any of this for sure just did a little research earlier.
I actually saw this in an email today, 8-11-10, for prayer requests and now I’m seeing it on FB
Same here I saw it today on one of my prayer pages, and wondered hoe the boy was doing………and find all this anyway its 8/10/11 today
Face book is a juvenile waste of time. GROW UP!
This request came through my church’s prayer request hotline. I prayed, but I ALWAYS research these “urgent, pass it on” emails before I hit “forward” (having been embarrassed once). Jesus said we must be as “wise as serpents and as innocent as doves”. No prayer is ever “wasted”, but I agree we people of faith must do our research so as not to appear foolish and gullible.
Marcia, that is so well said!! I agree
A big “thank you” to David Emery for bringing these variants on a sick story to everyone’s attention. Why is this Facebook urban legend going around? As at least one respondent to this article said, Facebook is a place where teens (and younger) go to socialize with other teens. At least one of them things this is hilarious. Another reason may be that the “mother” and/or “father” of “Hayden” suffers from a syndrome called Munchausen by proxy. They enjoy the attention from people sympathizing with them over their sick or injured “child”. The new twist is that the child is fictitious.
regarding Sherri’s comments abut Christians being so gullible . . . by definition, it goes with the terrritory. If you believe in a magical being that somehow created the universe and is somehow watching over us all, yet permitting the deplorable and disgusting things that go on in the world on a daily basis (yes, even to “good”people), you’ll believe pretty much anything!
I agree with the Munchausen by proxy assessment. At least though, with a fictitious child, no one is actually harmed, and MBP usualy results in real damage done to a helpless victim by a primary or medical care giver. At least “HaydendDad” was able to satisfy his need for sympathetic attention without actually hurting someone.
Going to the link given above, wil fill in some more recent developments, if you care to check into it. Excuses are given for each development proving the story false until finally “HaydensDad” gives up and leaves.
can a 22month old pull the trigger
I would think if a 22 month old did then it would shoot his legs not hes chest
ya thats extream there is so many people making stuff like this up it is very upsetting because if this did ever really happin no one will believe the family its kinda like the little boy who cried wolf ya no and stuff like this goes over texted messaging too some people need to find better things to do.
These god-botherers need to check their spelling and punctuation along with their facts!
I think it is a new virus one facebook. It is on the wall then it disappears.
http://www.NeedGod.com
Yes, it is on Snopes.
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/prayer/nailgun.asp
The baby in the link on babycenter.com posted above was said to be 1yr old boy, not almost 2 as the fb story posts. someone may have taken the story and made it their own for attention but that cruel to say the least. Prayer is never a waste of time, but it is sad when we lose faith in humanity and have to google something online before we believe such a tragic event. Who ever started this is a very sick individual
I believe this is not a hoax, based on my research.
The name swapping is indicative of the communication network…like a big game of telephone.
I found the actual names of the parent’s on a site that searches facebook comments, and her picture matches the one put on the babycenter photo. The Dad’s facebook photo is of the little boy in his hospital gown. According to recent facebook comments from people who are actually friends of theirs, Hayden is home and doing much better.
If you need actual links to correct this ‘legend’ I can provide them, but I’m guessing that this family wouldn’t like to be drug through the nastiness that is posted here.
absolutely right…because no one EVER makes fake facebook profiles…EVER!!! /sarcasm.
Where are the news reports??? What hospital..since the one claimed denies having such a pt in that situation?? Where are the parents to say HEY, it is true.. IT’s US.. having lost a child I would want to have people believe me, not think it was a hoax…so I would have SOMETHING to back it up..come on people, no one can be this ignorant…
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST: 4 a friend of a friend of a friend… Kayala Scott – her 22 month old son shot himself in the chest with a brad nailer. It went in his heart. He is in critical condition & not doing well. Neither is his mom. Plz, start a prayer chain for this baby!! Please copy …& repost, even if you don’t know them
I was told that the story of Kayla Scott’s 22 month old shooting was seen on the news on WSBTV Atlanta GA.
Someone on twitter told me the parents names are Robert and Rachel
reading this i have one question who cares if it is bogus. for anyone to actually research this tells me that they do not have a christian heart. we were asked to pray for the boy not donate our or a loved opes heart.;
the whole point of Christianity is to be Christ like, He would do everything in His power to work a miricle for the boy. If u Believe in Christ you dont question anything you just do what is being asked……….
Oh you sound like a very generous person. Be careful. The Bible doesn’t say you shouldn’t ever question anything. If we never questioned anything, thing we would bo everything that Satan told us to do, as well. I understand what you mean that it’s not a big deal. Maybe just pray, “God if this is true, then…” Who has the time to look into all this? Take care.
Regardless of the validity of this report, the fact is that toddlers should never be unattended near power tools, open cans of paint, garden sprays, etc. As and owner and operator of several nail guns, I do not find this story difficult to believe, at least in concept. Many workers have rigged their nail guns so that the safety trigger is wired open, making the gun faster and much more dangerous. I have friends in the home-building industry that have shot themselves and others with nail guns.
So take this story to heart and be careful!
While I can’t fault anyone’s concern for an injured child, consider that even if this story were true (and it could *possibly* be), a BRAD nailer would cause relatively little injury even to a child of 22 months. The nails are very small and the nailer has very little power. I firmly believe that such an accident, while certainly painful and frightening, little penetration would actually have occurred. A short visit to an ER would have removed the offending brad easily, and with a 4×4 and antibiotics, and probably Xanax for the mother, the child would have been sent home.
What I don’t understand is, why the hell are so many different parent(s) names are coming up for the same child? >: – (
I mean, ” Joe Brown ” is requesting prayer for his son/daughter, ” Annie Smith “, or ” Selena Moore ” is requesting prayer for her son/daughter, ” Annie Smith “.
What, don’t they know who the childs’ real parents are?
WTF get the name right, to be quite honest i dont think its true!!! I watch the news everyday and i never heard anything! If it is true is was probs his mother because she wanted attention so
Look how much time has been wasted worrying over whether this was a hoax or not. Many just prayed and then went on. No wasted time there.
For those who say, “so what if it’s a hoax, what have you lost saying a prayer?” It isn’t that any one has lost or waisted anything, it is that fact they were taken advantage of, would this story only be wrong if they asked for money? But I do have to agree, the concept of faith make some people open to scams, afyer all they are taught to have “blind faith”, I prefer common sense myself.
Just saw a post today on facebook for this….its October 2010 so im pretty sure if it was real kayla scott would make sure her son doesnt shoot himself twice
Yes, me too. I have two facebook friends that posted this yesterday. I agree with you Jessica-surely if this was real, they wouldn’t let the child shoot himself again.
WOW! Now I’ve heard it all! Scamming is NEVER OK! To be purposely deceptive, all for the sole purpose of attention, is inhumane!…but it happens.Attacking Christians 4 believing n what they r praying for,or believing in ppl in general… seems downright devilish! The people,of United States put Obama in office because We believed it was time for a change!!! Must b some angry republican posting nonsense that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic!.. and therefore, I will NOT do the same. Yes,nowadays research is very NECESSARY for correspondance sent on ANY public forum… NOT just facebook! THIS was a prayer chain asking to FORWARD a prayer, not SAY one, or SHARE one. Something of this magnitude would surely make it to local, primetime, online,or national news…If it dont sound right or look right, 9x’s out of 10….It aint right!…Like thinkin this world exist from what.. thin air? On judgement day, athiest r FIRST in line…NOW, BELIEVE THAT.
saw this a few months ago so it;s been out there..
I Saw this on my news feed on facebook today, i see a lot of friend to friend prayers and I’ve always believed them until now. I searched it on google and found this. The comments on this clearly showed that it was a Fake.
I will pray for the child and the mother. For it being a hoax that is in the Heavenly Father’s hands. For that the person or persons will answer to him.
come on people, if anyone gets shot in the heart it will take more than anti biotics to fix it. he would be dead for sure.
This is a real story. The little boys name is Kayla Wright and he is my cousin Scott’s son. His parents names are Scott and Michelle Wright. He is in the hospital and he is not doing very well at all. He does need our paryers.
A boy named Kayla? And this happened 9 weeks ago (when it was first posted) and he’s STILL in the hospital? No news source, no city or hospital so that we may verify it?
Let me check my drivers license and see if I was born yesterday.
That’s funny, Kristine.. the baby’s name is supposedly Hayden.. and he was doing fine BEFORE you posted that in Oct according to the daddy… Kayla is mom’s alias … so why are you claiming it’s true.. want us to believe it?? come up with the newspaper articles or the 911 call on it… and no, I’ve been a paramedic far too long… 2 antibiotics ARE NOT going to save a baby from a heart puncture.. give me/us all a break until you can PROVE it!
Kristine… PROVE it!!! First off the post on fb claims the child’s name is HAYDEN.. not Kayla.. that is the mother’s 20k alias. and what hospital… and he’s all better BEFORE your post in Oct.. so you are not truthful as well… where are the newspaper articles? The 911 call??? I have been a paramedic far too long to know enough that 2 antibiotics will NOT cure a childs punctured heart.. give me a break…
My son shot himself in the face with a Luger Mk II pistol and it was devastating to our whole family. He had accidentally put my Louis Vitton sunglasses on just before he pulled the trigger, too, so that was obviously sort of a bummer. His life is over and mine is ruined. Since it happened, my wife left me for a man named Charles who drives a Mercedes, and she isn’t even sorry, because she was at work all day. My son had just been sitting in his room all day while I was outside smoking hash and building a treehouse, and I never thought, him being a total goth and all, that he was really suicidal. Gosh it sucks. And so do you. But God knows it’s not my fault at all, and really it’s mass media, specifically it’s the Terminator movies and McG for the latest installment. So graphic and violent. Plus there are a lot of other violent movies like Predator, Fast and Furious, Faster/Furiouser, Saving Private Ryan, Virgin Suicides. It’s their fault. Pray for me.
I really wish people would stop sending me friend requests and condolance messages over facebook! D=
Kayla.. make a disclaimer… on your wall… a BIG one… I did a search for Kayla Scott when I first got the prayer request in March/2011 and knew it wasn’t any of you listed… ya’ll are laughing and yucking it up with your fb friends,.. let the world know it’s not you… whoever it is though, I sure hope pays dearly for it….
Is this enough proof for you?
http://community.babycenter.com/post/a23785237/hold_your_babies
No!! It’s not enough proof!! That doesn’t even go with the prayer request claim…. HAYDEN was 2 not 1 and anyone can post on babycenter also.. you can’t believe that is proof!!! Try a reputable newspaper article or local news channel item or 911 call.. that will BE PROOF enough!!
Encyclopedia Brown has the best logic of all. I am a mother of two, and I totally agree.
This neither confirms or denies this prayer request. I don’t guess that a lil prayer hurts anyone. By the time you looked this up you could have prayed for him just in case. Now that it was not proven as a dishonest thing did you pray just …in case.
The night my husband, Kenny died 3 times, if you would have seen someone requesting prayer for a Kenny Smith in Picayune MS would you have taken the time to look it up or would you have started praying. I was just wondering. People around the world prayed for Kenny that night and I am so happy that they didn’t all stop to check it out first. They were asked for prayer and they gave it. End result 6 years later we are happily married for almost 33 years. And oh, yeah, I do give Jesus, the Son of God all the glory.
I think everybody is wrong… You have no clue what happens in this world.. Just because it isnt on tv or all over “google?” dosent mean it didnt happen. Everyone thinks that as soon as something like this happens its automatically going to be on the news and all over the web. Well its not. I think everyone should respect this because what if this was your child?
Instead of getting upset over the hoax, why not just pray for the person that started it. They are lacking in some area of their lives and apparently need the prayers.
True or not true, does it really matter? When you first saw this did you stop and say a prayer or did you “research” it first?
We are all going to be judged for what WE did, not what someone else did. Jesus said, “…Three times today I came to your door. Three times my shadow was on your floor. I was the beggar with bruised feet. I was the woman who was hungry. I was the lost child.” One turned the three away BUT one tended to all three’s needs. Which one are you?
I prayed for this child. If it is a hoax, then I lost nothing but a few moments of my time. If is true, then a prayer went up for healing and comfort.
If it was Jesus knocking on my door, then I answered the door. Did you?
I will be praying fir the calous individuals that would orchastrate such a teeribly insinsitive event for the sake of some pervrse need to elicit prayers about a lie Goid will hear my prayers for such coonfused nad lost souls as this He knows ther illness and will hear my pryarers for there healing (socially ) amongst other things and who knows but that they will all turn out to be doers of his will regardless of their original intent. God Bless you all /Us all too!
David,
Did you look at the link: http://community.babycenter.com/post/a23785237/hold_your_babies
I know that these are just posts that parents and grandparents can post. There is a picture included with that post. Like you I did some research and found nothing to confirm this as fact or fiction.
I would be interested in your opinion about the babycenter link and photo.
*Children are a precious gift and a blessing. Having raised 5 children and being a Pediatric/Neonatal Practitioner, I know children are curious. Everyday a child is injured, and or killed unnecessarily. We as parents need to be diligent in preventing as many of those injuries and deaths as possible.
*PRAYERS are never wasted. I pray everyday for all the children in the world that they might be kept safe. That every child in the world does not suffer needlessly. That those children who are injured and sick heal quickly and suffer little.
*I believe some people with kind hearts wanting to help this child they feel has been hurt so badly, repost the request innocently.
*I KNOW for a fact that people post some pretty outrageous things just for a little attention. To those people I say a prayer as well. I pray they find the help they need to make it through another day in their lonely world.
*To those that post a story about a child being injured thinking it is funny. Know that “what goes around comes around,” it may take some time for it to circle around and bite you, but it will.
*Prayers are not always answered the way we expect them to be.
I’ve found an update with a picture of a heavily bandaged little boy, It LOOKS to be authentic, I don’t know where they couldn’t have gotten the photo if it’s not.

here is a pic
Why do you people have to have s***ty sites like this. Try contacting the state and city and find out the truth before you open your blogs mouth.
Proverbs 15:14
The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
Proverbs 9:6-8
Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”
1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Guile to test your faith and having you pray in the name of falsehood, leads you astray. Stay on task and don’t be gullible. Being the fool, is the waste of the Lord’s time and yours. Seek knowledge, do good works in HIS name and love one another. That is his request.
I also have just seen another post for the prayer request again today.. I finally did some research an found this website : bigdawgmusicmafia.ning.com/xn/…/3460570%3ATopic%3A6803
it has a picture of mother an child and explains a little more… but nothing in depth…has anyone found out if this is true yet??..
I also posted this prayer request, It really does not matter if it is a hoax or not. Prayer went up for someone at that time. I believe that as prayer went up someone some where was being healed. I also believe that as those prayers went up, a 22 month old baby was specificly being healed from a nail gun accident. So thank God for healing Kayla Scott’s baby and/or all the other 22 month old babies that got hurt by a nail gun. In Jesus’ name AMEN
Y’know Jesus CAN’T save an imaginary baby that DIDN’T shot himself with a nail gun because Jesus didn’t save himself when he had that nasty incident with nails back in the day.
Also, why you Christfan guys finish your prayers in the name of the EGYPTIAN GOD named AMEN??
I don’t get it.
I’ll go back and pray to RA, so the sun rises in the morning. It never fails and proves RA IS THE REAL GOD and praying to Ra is better than praying to anyone else.
Passing along this prayer request… Please pray for Cheryl Dewitts’ 22 month old son, he shot himself in the chestwith a brad nailer. It went in his heart, he is in critical condition and not doing well, neither is his mom, please start a prayer chain. Please copy and repost… Please pray… what if it was your child?
thanks for this nice post 111213
I just saw one today. it was fishy so i googled and found this. LOL
My sister got asked, via FB, to pray for this very thing today. Weird.
It is sad that someone would make something like this up, but what I think is REALLY SAD is how it has made Christians look. Just reading through some of the comments make me sad that the devil still had a victory because instead of praying for all children, adult Christians are acting like children, all over a prayer request, true or not….Why don’t we all who are Christians STOP typing about this and just pray for all children in this world…??? There should not be one more comment about this, 3/28/11. JUST PRAY!!!
I just saw it again today, for about the millionth time. Why are people so gullible?
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!!! KAYLA SCOTT’S 22 MONTH OLD SON SHOT HIMSELF IN THE CHEST WITH A BRAD NAILER~ IT WENT IN HIS HEART~ HE IS NOW IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND NOT DOING WELL ~ NEITHER IS HIS MOM ~PLEASE START A PRAYER CHAIN FOR THIS BABY~ PLEASE COPY & REPOST AS YOU WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU ~ THANKS
Its still making the rounds
Wow…this is STILL circulating on Facebook. A friend of mine posted it today (March 29, 2011). Someone posted the link to this article in the comments, otherwise I would have thought it a reality. I don’t pray personally (not a “believer”) but I was still saddened by reading the post, @ least now I know it’s a hoax. I just don’t understand people…
I don’t think a 22 month old could squeeze the trigger.
If this really did happen then the parent/s should be charged with neglect.
Do I believe that at some point, some where in the world, a child nailed himself in the chest? Yes. Do I believe that someone that knows that someone asked for prayer requests online? Yep. But do I believe that the continual posting of it makes a lot of people NOT believe it. Yes to that also!
Also, I can’t for the life of me figure out why… Why would someone want to post that? Just to see how many people repost it? What a waste of time!
Laughing at this. WHY are people still talking about it? We can see just from this stream of text that this goes back over a year. Unless there are many 2 year olds running around hurting themselves with brad nailers–and if that’s the case, we need some serious intervention–then we should safely be able to say this is a hoax and keep it moving.
Weird thing is that it showed up on my feed today.
It was posted today on my best friends site
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!!! PLEASE RE-POST!! KAYLA SCOTT’S 22 MONTH OLD SON SHOT HIMSELF IN THE CHEST WITH A BRAD NAILER~ IT WENT IN HIS HEART~ HE IS NOW IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND NOT DOING WELL ~ NEITHER IS HIS MOM ~ PLEASE START A PRAYER CHAIN FOR THIS BABY~ PLEASE COPY & REPOST ……AS YOU WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO…DO IT…FOR YOU, thanx guys xxxxx i wanna see this as ur status for at least half hr please xxxx;
interestingly, on FB again 8/9/2011.
Seriously, who cares if it really happened or not. As a christian, its my responsibility to pray when someone has a need. God knows….
Wow…I can’t believe how a simple question for a prayer got so blown out of proportion! It’s pretty simple…ppl lie to get attention! Why does someone have to turn this around to be a christianity debate?
Maybe just maybe if us “christians” wouldn’t question everything someone asks for and just simply say the prayer no one would have anything to have 50 posts about, I can see all the questions if it was a video you had to watch…but come on ppl all it was was a simple prayer request…
and how in the heck can anyone blame christians for obama being our president…that’s just nuts! there are more then just christians who vote in elections…think about it geesh ppl…
Hoaxes can be sometimes be identified because they usually the verifiable details are too vague to verify and then other details are very specific to try to make them more believable. Like in one instance of this hoax no hospital name or daily updates from the family but the poster gave great detail in the exact position of the nail!
The real problem with hoax prayer requests like this is that it causes people to doubt and question other people’s REAL prayer requests when REAL prayers are REALly needed!
Let’s all pray for the instigators of this hoax and the people who make false statements regarding it. Their lives must be very empty. God bless us all!
Fake or not, it takes only a moment to send a prayer out. No one should fight about this at all. Arguing over all of this is not “Mighty Christian” of ANY person claiming to be religious. I saw this post tonight, and instead of a direct prayer, I asked the Lord to protect all our beautiful children. No time wasted. Now, as for the wasting of time, the malicious people who have nothing better to do with their search engine, need to find something more productive to do with their time.
So like my main question is not whether this prayer request is true or not but more along the lines if its not true what the heck is the point of sending out a fake prayer request for something that is not even true what is the point of that?
Praying is good. Mass-forwarding SPAM and hoaxes is not good. I DOES waste time and eat up bandwidth, which makes the internet run slower for everyone. If there is a real prayer request, it might get stuck on a server that is suffering because 6 million members are mass-forwarding fake prayer requests. By all means, pray, but don’t spread lies when 2 minutes from you will save 30 seconds for 30 million others. GBY, MDJ.†
As of Monday August 8, 2011…this is going around FB again…and I questioned this when I noticed the dates were off…especially when of my friends claimed she was a friend of someone that knew the family and she said that she just heard on this day…So is this true or not…cause this is a horrible thing for someone to make up!!!
So it is August 2011 and the Kayla Scott prayer letter is circling again if it wasn’t a hoax a year ago it most certainly is now
OMG .. I FEEL LIKE A HEEL… when the baby story was posted… it WAS not CUT and Pasted RIght to BEGIN WITH…Where I Got Scotts Family… When I TALKED TO MY FRIEND since i moved here..SHE read it… She told me … Tammy THATS NOT THEM…WEll LOOKING up online… THIS POST IS or Was or has been a Called a HOAX>>>.PRAYER RESEARCH..Names CHANGED…MISS COPIED AND POSTED .. another LADY reserched.. it Was Started OVER A YEAR AGO!!! IM AM SO SO SO SORRY I FEEL SO BAD>>>Please Forgive me I would of NEVER of Posted..if not for believing with all my heart it was TRUE.. SO SORRY ALL..
Ok so I only looked this up because a friend of mine had posted it recently on facebook and remembered seeing a similar posting from someone else quite a long time ago. After reading some of the comments here I do understand that many of you are probably Christian or Catholic and I understand your choice of praying with or without the facts being proven or not. Many people want to know the truth simply out of curiousity. It is true that not every accident is going to be on the news or published in the paper and it is naieve to believe that all of them are. If this was an accident that happen to this child then I hope that the child is now home and healthy. I also need to say that the letter that was “supposedly” written by the father of this child does make a good point when people say a 22 month old child couldn’t pick up such a thing, because I can honestly say I have no doubts of that since I’ve seen my own son lift things that no one would think a 22 month old could possibly pick up let alone carry around. On the other hand if this is a hoax I believe a different religion than probably most of you and in my beliefs karma plays a strong role in life… for good or for ill, shall be returned to us threefold… if someone started something like this as a joke it is a sick joke but it is jokes like this that impact others and show that the persons mind that can work in a way that they find this amusing that they direct their own karma and it will catch up to them.
“An it harm none, do as ye will”
I think that people that make up crap like that about children are sick and have too much dam time on there hands…get a job…go to church and pray for a life and to be forgiven for being a sick and complete unloving person..now ..dont wait ..run…quick…
it was just posted on my fb by a couple of frirends and one of them is claiming that its her friend’s cousin’s son lol !!! i remember seeing it a year ago myself
I seen it posted the other day and again this morning…….
Very interesting, and sad at the same time. I got this yesterday on FB too. Here it goes again. Obviously unsubstantiated, even though there are versions of the “real” father’s letter thanking everyone for their concern. Can’t help but wonder if these things contribute to making us skeptical and therefore unconcerned about even real prayer requests…
Well, as of today, there’s an addition to the letters. Now it mentions a child’s name.
“Jerry Luther, KAYLA SCOTT’S 22 MONTH OLD SON SHOT HIMSELF IN THE CHEST WITH A BRAD NAILER~ IT WENT IN HIS HEART~ HE IS NOW IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND NOT DOING WELL~ NEITHER IS HIS MOM~ PLEASE START A PRAYER CHAIN FOR THIS BABY~ PLEASE COPY & REPOST AS YOU WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU~THANKS”
This stuff drives me nuts. A friend posted this on facebook recently and when I tried to set her straight she argued her friend knew the family. Wow people open yours and do a some research.
To be honest who cares if it is real or not, maybe this 22 month old little boy’s story isnt real (maybe it is)! Who are we to judge the situation? The facts are God knows everything and prayer is never a bad thing. There are plenty of little boys and girls all over the world that need prayer! Like i said God knows everything so maybe when you sat down and took a moment out of your day to say that prayer, God used it for some other 22month old who needed it. He watches over everyone and everything and he knows the true story. So let him deal with that. If it is a fake story what does someone have to gain by starting a lie like that? Nothing, so why would someone start a lie about praying for a hurt little boy? To gain NOTHING. idk if it is real or not but i do know its not our place to judge. So just say a prayer incase. Or if you really dont believe it say an unspoken prayer for every other hurting person!! And you wonder how the story keeps changing, well did you ever play that game in kindergardan when the teacher told a story to one classmate and the story had to go through the whole class, and by the time it got to the last person it was a completely different story? well that was between a class of 14 students, no telling how many ppl this story has been passed through, FB has over a million users. So yeah stories can change, when you pass it through that many people.
Look. We call agree this post is sick if fake and sad if real. Does it really need to be a huge debate about proof or prayer? If you see the post, pray if you want or ignore it. It doesn’t make you any less of a person either way. It just says you have a working mind of your own.
