In a story supposedly told by actor Lee Marvin on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, kids' TV show host and Marine Corps reservist Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan is credited with saving the lives of his fellow soldiers in battle during World War II and described as "the bravest man I ever knew."

In reality, the war was almost over by the time Keeshan joined the Marines, and it's unlikely he ever saw combat.

True, Mr. Emery, but I heard that his cohorts on the show, Mr. Green Jeans, Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit and The Banana Man, comprised an elite team of OSS operatives that were responsible for Hitler’s assassination. I think a movie about it, starring Tom Cruise, will be out soon … look for it.
