The White House today released a copy of President Obama's "long-form" Hawaii birth certificate, a move calculated to squelch the "distraction" of persistent speculation about his birthplace and citizenship status, but which is unlikely to silence the conspiracy theorists who clamored for its release.
I've already heard from one Birther who says the document is likely a fake. Another says the original birth record merely casts more doubt on Obama's status as a natural-born citizen, since it confirms that his father wasn't a U.S. citizen (as if we didn't know that before).
The same crowd is also calling for the release of Obama's college transcripts because of speculation — based on no evidence whatsoever, I might add — that he may have attended at least one school as a non-U.S. citizen.
The overriding truth, of course, is that no amount of evidence will change the minds of conspiracy theorists. By definition, the only facts that count are those which conform to the theory. Obama is guilty until proven innocent, and no amount of proof will ever be sufficient.

Do not all birth certificates have a State Seal on them?? BO’s was only certified the 25 Apr. 2011. Did he not need a Certified copy before now???
It’s doubtful that he ever needed a long-form copy before actually. I happen to be a HI state employee working in an official capacity & I have NEVER in my life seen a long-form birth certificate—not even my own. They just aren’t used. Everyone uses ones like the first one he released. That’s what you’re given when requesting your BC. It’s what gets your DVL & passport. The first one IS the legal document. This thing is some circus sideshow.
That said 25 Apr was the cert date of ~this~ copy. Each copy gets a date. He ordered this one on the 25th so that it would be fresh, with a fresh paper trail—leading directly to the state office— so that you couldn’t claim that he had changed it. If at some other point he had needed a copy (again: VERY unlikely), then that copy would have the previous date on it.
why would you assume he did ~or~ didn’t need a copy before.

My birth certificate wasn’t certified until 2000 when I needed to get a copy from my birth state for a passport. As far as I know I’m still a US born citizen. But, per your reasoning I should seriously reconsider any aspirations I had for running for public office. (although it might be funny to learn that Michigan isn’t actually considered part of the US)
ps. yes, there was probably a regular old birth certificate that my mother used to get me into school or something 40 years ago, but I never needed it for myself and I can’t say if it was actually “certified”.

The plain truth of the matter is that his mother was an American citizen so he is an American citizen. It doesn’t matter where he was born whether it was in Hawaii like he says or in Kenya as his Aunt has testified. He would be a US citizen no matter what the circumstance.

The requirement for a Natural Born Citizen is that the individual be born in the US, not that both parents are citizens. Have you forgotten the outrage over the “Anchor” babies that are born of illegal imagrants. The same outrage that is as racially motivated as the idoitic outrage over Obama’s birth certificate.
Before McCain ran, he had to get clearance that being born in Panama wouldn’t prevent him from holding office. The finding there was he was born at a US military base, and thus met the Born in the US clause.
When Mitt Romney’s father ran for office many years ago, NO ONE brought up that fact that he was born in MEXICO, not at an embassy or other US run place, but at a polygamist compound. It makes me wonder where good old Mitt was born and if anyone will ask for his birth certificate with the same amount of vitrol.

I strongly feel that if he was a white President no one would have dare to ask for his birth certificate, also now that the whole country and the rest of world have gotten the proof that he was born in Hawaii the arrogant Donald Trump wants to make sure that it is original.

As an Australian, what interest me is that the US, which has always been seen as welcoming people from overseas, still has something like this natural born citizen clause in its constitution. Here, to hold elected public office and permanent government jobs, you must be an Australian citizen but the place of birth doesn’t matter. Several of our Prime Ministers, including the current one, were born overseas.
Michael, Our forefathers original intent was to insure that a person chosen for President or Vice President would have complete allegiance to the USA and not any feelings of “attachment or sympathies” toward any other country that they may extend “special treatment” due to having been born in another country or having a parent born in another country. I have not seen or heard anything that can be considered raciest on all of this. Had he been white the very same questions would not have been called raciest. That is a flat out. Now why not just turn over the original copy for evaluation rather than a copy and be done with it as he says. We have better things to do, unless as he also has been quoted in saying,, “those that keep secrets have something to hide”. He should be held to a higher standard as he holds a higher office.

I don’t think this topic will ever go away. I’m sure if there was any doubt about Obama’s birth, it would have been dug up long ago during his first political campaign. We need to focus on issues and just accept the fact that he is our President until at least 2012.
