Of course, some wiseguy may reply to the debunking with “this only applies to July”. In which case you respond: The 2011 calendar is identical to those for 1994, 2005, and 2022 — the ENTIRE YEAR, not just July. (1988 and 2016 also have identical July calendars to this year, but obviously since those are leap years, January and February are different.)
Good catch! I remember some older people saving their calendars from long ago and putting it up when it corresponded to the current year. Interesting to see years from long ago the same as now (many times).

Once every 823 years? What utter nonsense! For any month containing 31 days it happens when the the 1st of the month falls on Friday. How often does this happen? On average, about once a year.
There are 7 months that have 31 days: January, March, May, July, August, October and December. For each of those 7 months it happens about 4 times every 28 years. 7 months x 4 occurences for each = 28 occurrences every 28 years, or about 1 occurrence per year.
For example, in the 28 years prececeding 2011, July 1 fell on a Friday in 1983, 1988, 1994 and 2005. In the same 28 years the first of the month for each of the other 6 months fell on Friday 4 times as well.
Notice that I said “about” 4 times every 28 years rather than “exactly” 4 times. This is because the 28 year minor cycle of the Gregorian Calendar is disrupted by century years (the ones ending in 00) that are not leap years. This throws the averages off very slightly. To get the averages precisely, one needs to look at the full 400 year cycle of the Calendar.
The news item seems to have some parameters missing because every 5-6 years yhe month of July has five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It happens whenever July 1 is Friday.
Next such coiguration shall occur in July, 2016 and thereafter in July, 2022.
Such phenon occurs in case of all the 7 months of 31 days duration and three consecutive days shall occur three times in the month.
In four months of 30 days duration it occurs for two consecutive days.
Feb of leap year has on day of the week repeat five times.
Thus it would be advisable to elaborate the news item and 823 years concept
Over the next 100 years, this occurrence will repeat itself (in *July*) fifteen times.

January 1st MUST be on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wedmesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. That leaves seven possible different calendars. Add to this that all seven of those years may possibly be a Leap Year–and you are left with 14–and ONLY 14-possible different calendars.
If every month had only 28 days–you would have 4 weeks of 7 days each. But, as one of you pointed out, every year has 7 months of 31 days–which meana the there MUST be three extra days–or three weeks having 5 of the same days.
It is not weird and unusual. If you want it to be otherwise, devise a new calendar.
Well I’m on a bi-weekly pay schedule, so two months of every year, there are three paychecks in a month instead of two. July is one of those months. Money Bags indeed.

I think the months where people say there are only 4 Fridays it could be just an illusion rather than truth. Sometimes it just looks that way because more people are on vacation or just staying indoors.
