Andy Rooney is dead at 92. He will be remembered for the many pithy things he said as on-air editorialist for 60 Minutes on CBS. Unfortunately, he will also be remembered for things he didn't say, though folks on the Internet claim he did.
On Prayer:
"I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution."
On Political Correctness:
"I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squirting out babies."

Never believe ANYTHING anyone forwards you over the Internet until you’ve fact-checked it.
Andy Rooney isn’t the only one who has had quotations falsely attributed to him. There are e-mails circulating that falsely claim that Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, John Cleese, and George Carlin said certain things that they never actually said.
Both right-wing and left-wing people do this, and so that if you get an e-mail claiming that Thomas Jefferson warned against redistribution of wealth or that the Republicans have zeroed out NPR in the next budget, check it first with Snopes.com before you go into a tizzy and forward the e-mail to everyone in your address book.
Right on! I get forwarded emails from people I know who are very anxious about what the emails say. I always check out the facts — and I have NEVER received one that stands up under any scrutiny! It is amazing what some people try to promulgate, and it is also amazing how many gullible people there are out there who believe something just because it appeared on their computer.
This forum on about.com is a good place to check, and also snopes.com.
I totally agree. As Founding Father George Washington so famously said “You should always double check things that you hear on the internet”.

In that day, the ‘tubes’ were made of wood.
Wasn’t it Thomas Jefferson who made that quote?
