I’m not really sure about the Vicks VapoRub effect, but after reading the professionals’ comments I feel I must add that it is common practice in Eastern European traditional medicine to rub one’s soles with garlic, then put on woolen socks before going to bed when one has a serious cold; this is done in order to “bring blood to the infected areas…” etc, i.e. to facilitate entry of the anti inflammatory “agents” garlic (and onion, for that matter) contains into the bloodstream. I’m not a medical expert, so I apologize for my misuse of proper terminology.
My grandmother used to rub my father’s chest when he was a child with a mixture of goose grease and turpentine as a remedy for colds. I suppose it was a crude forerunner to Vick’s. No idea whether it worked or not.

the only thing i can think of that was not mentioned in the report was the fact that a lot of people believe in reflexology. nerves in the feet are massaged to help with various ailments.
maybe this is one way of explaining this strange possibilty!!!!

I had received the email about putting vicks on the bottom of your feet and then covering them with socks to stop a cough. My 4 year old son has had a deep barking cough for several days so I tried it last night. To my suprise it really worked!! He did not cough all night!
Yes, It gets rid of athletes foot and other fugal infections like jock itch. It’s got some mean ingrdints like terpentine in it. Would you be able to live in that if you were a fungus? I think not.
I also thought it wasnt true, but I tried it on my self… and it works!. I have asthma and in this weather change period of the year I get real sick with cough and flue and all that. I am suffering a hard cough/flue for almost a month… been taking all kind of medicine and I still have cough. I read it in a mail about this, done it yesterday… and didn’t cough ANYTHING at night, no over sweat, no asthma.. nothing!. The next morning, I took out my vicks socks to take a bath and go to work, the minute after I took them off, start coughing agan, but not as deep as I used to.. SO .. ITS TRUE!!
I tried it on my 12 year old son, and it worked. I didn’t hear him cough all night. The next night, we didn’t do it, and he coughed.
My mother used to rub it all over my throat and on my upper chest and a dab in my nostrals.. I ALWAYS THEN SLEPT LIKE A BABY… I go the extra step and ingest a gob of it which has never hurt me at all so I really kick butt on nighttime sleeping… GOD I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
ALSO FOUND THE INGREDIENTS TO MAKING MY OWN MEDICATED VASALINE LIKE THEY USED TO HAVE BUT TOOK IT OFF THE MARKET IF ANYONE’S INTERESTED!!! CLEARS UP EVERYTHING ON YOUR BOTTOM REALLY FAST.. I WOULDN’T USE IT ON ANY BABY’S THOUGH!!

my daughter sheetal(15years ) old ,she ‘d wheezing problem since child ,last night she participated dance program at her school ,while she developed coughing with wheezing ,i just rubed vicks little bit on her chest ,it suddenly reduced her coughing ,thank you guys ,she performed well but her wheezing still not reduced
