A British college student in Colchester, Essex says he was shocked and sickened to find a "horrible wrinkled foreign body" in a box of KFC chicken last month. It looked like a brain, Ibrahim Langoo told the U.K. tabloid The Sun. He has vowed never to eat at KFC again.
Reports of undesirable objects in fast food or packaged meals often turn out to be hoaxes or urban legends, but that is apparently not the case in this instance. A KFC spokesperson apologized on behalf of the company, saying the shriveled organ was probably a kidney, not a brain, albeit "unsightly" just the same.

That looks a lot like something I found in some fast-food fried chicken I had once as a child (around the ’70s). Not sure if it was KFC; could’ve been Holly Farms (which I don’t think is around anymore). I pointed it out to my parents, thinking the same thing (that it was a brain) and my folks speculated it might just be cooked blood, lol! We simply carried on with the meal. I found the whole thing fascinating at the time.
An organ of a once living creature found with my order of deep fried flesh of the same once living creature? The horrors!
I am SHOCKED to see this article about the organ found in the KFC chicken. This has ALWAYS been in their chicken thighs as far back as I can remember. As a matter of fact, it is found in ALL chicken thighs including Popeyes chicken or any other establishment’s chicken thighs. I have never eaten one ANYWHERE that did not have this. I actually order thighs especially for this. It is part of the chicken and it IS edible.
Amazing that no one seems to be aware of this delicacy! When butchering a whole chicken you’ll notice that there are small glands right inside the thigh. They are present in both halal and kosher thighs. This is on the back of the thigh, not the front, meaty part, but the bony back part. It has a hearty liver taste and many people, including myself, order thighs especially for this delicacy. I have never found a chicken thigh that did not contain this.
Seeing how this is a VERY normal part of the thigh I would suspect that KFC could very well file a law suit slandering there company.
In reality this is NOT a kidney and it is NOT even a gland. It would be impossible for a kidney or a gland to be imbedded in this boney joint. These are synovia. A synovium is a “lubricating sac” of durable but soft connective tissue, filled with a lubricating fluid (which helps sustain the synovial tussues). It’s function is to separate, cushion, and lubricate the cartilage at the end of the bones of major joints.
If you’ve ever seen arthoscopic images of, say, your knee, you’ve looked inside your synovium.
This is found in ALL fried chicken thighs.
