HOAX: One Direction Fan Kills Dog Because Band Won't Follow Her on Twitter

By September 13, 2013

Follow me on:

It grieves me to have to point this out, but you know you've reached your zenith as an Internet troll when people start petitions to have you thrown in jail.

"There is a person on twitter by the name of @Illumivato who is posting pictures of her killing her dog by snapping its neck to get more followers," writes Change.org petitioner Mya Fhya. "I want this person to be imprisoned! She is a threat to society!"

What's she talking about? Well, according to media reports, this Twitter user, @Illumivato, issued a threat to the members of One Direction demanding that they follow her or she would break her dog's neck. When they didn't, she tweeted a photo of herself cradling the "dead" dog in her arms.

Here's the problem: @Illumivato sent those tweets in late August, but the photo dates back to mid-June, and even enjoyed a previous career as an Internet meme.

If it isn't obvious enough from this flagrant example that @Illumivato — whoever she (or he?) may really be — is nothing but an attention-starved troll, take a look at some of her other tweets, which include threats to kill her own mother and run dogs and cats through a blender. We've seen it all before.

And, finally, we have this admission in @Illumivato's own words, posted September 9: "Are people still going on about this f*cking dog thing, I was trolling!!!! STOP."

Twitter has since suspended the account.

It’s unbelievable that ALL the establishment news sites are have gone crazy over this and have been reporting it as “real news” when so many more important, and FACTUAL things are going on in the word. How can these people call themselves journalists?

Well, then maybe she should invest her time on more productive things instead of trying to blackmail a band to follow her. Whether or not what she did was real, it was a THREAT. It made everyone very uncomfortable and wanting attention is NOT an excuse. I think she SHOULD be investigated by the police and have a psychiatric evaluation, normal people don’t go around threatening to kill their pets and parents. I find it appalling how comfortable you are about this and much worse, how you’re trying to make excuses for her.

Diego, I’ve been asking that same question for over 30 years. It’s gotten a lot worse over the last 15.
