Daily Currant: Sarah Palin Claims Jesus Celebrated Easter

A viral "news story" published on DailyCurrant.com claims that former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin proclaimed during a recent TV interview that "We need to return Easter back to the way it was when Jesus was alive."

That would be an incredibly ignorant remark to make given that Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection, but here's the thing: Palin said no such thing. The Daily Currant is a satirical website and all the quotes in the article are fictitious (read the disclaimer).

I know the Daily Currant is a satire website, having been fooled by them. But this does sound plausible enough to be true as do most of the Daily Currant’s postings. I have found myself reminding friends that these posts are all satire — very, very good satire — but satire nonetheless.

Curt stated it’s “…plausible enough to be true …” This is just another way of saying something they’ve read or heard is consistent with one’s bigotry and blind acceptance of like-minded bigots.

Actually Curt isn’t too far off base. There have been a number of DC articles republished by other mainstream news sources as fact. And in fairness I can understand why he’d believe this one is plausible, some of her (and others’) comments have been pretty far off ridiculous to begin with.

Sorry guys, but Jesus did celebrate Easter in his time! All Jews celebrated Pessah (Passover) as it was called then. As a matter of fact Jesus’ Last Supper was probably his last Pessah celebration meal.
Is the joke, a joke anymore?
