What happened to the Hunger Site?
08/21/01: (See updates below.) I've been receiving inquiries concerning the fate of the Hunger Site and the "free mammogram" donation site, both of which now produce error messages when users try to access the Web addresses. What's happened, unfortunately, is that both of these "click-to-donate" Websites have fallen victim to the dot-com bust. The company that owned them, GreaterGood.com, closed its doors in July. According to a Wired News article, there's some slight hope that the sites — which during their heyday successfully raised hefty contributions for charity through corporate sponsorships — can be revived by other means, but given the current economic climate I wouldn't advise holding one's breath.

Update #1: No sooner did I post the above than a new holding page appeared at www.thehungersite.com announcing that the site will be returning soon "under new management."  No further information is available.

Update #2: As of August 30, 2001, the Hunger Site is back in business at its old URL. The new owners are Tim Kunin and Greg Hesterberg, operators of a similar site called EcologyFund.com.
