Madeleine McCann Is Missing

Netlore Archive: Email flier seeks information on the whereabouts of missing child Madeleine McCann, who was abducted while on holiday in Portugal on May 3, 2007.

Description: Email flier
Circulating since: May 2007
Status: Authentic

Email contributed by Jean-Francois A., May 14, 2007:

Subject: FW: Missing Madeleine - please forward

This message was started this morning by Phil McCann, Madeleine's uncle...

3-year old Madeleine was abducted whilst on holiday in Portugal on the 3rd May. Please pass on if you can, (and translate it if necessary). As you are aware my niece is still missing and I am asking everyone I know to send this as a chain letter i.e. you send it to everyone you know and ask them to do the same, as the story is only being covered in Britain, Eire and Portugal. We don't believe that she is in Portugal anymore and need to get her picture and the story across Europe as quickly as possible. Suggestions are welcome.

Analysis: True, despite the fact that the above message is erroneously attributed to the missing child's "uncle." Phil (for Philomena) McCann is Madeleine McCann's aunt.

Three-year-old Madeleine McCann was abducted from her family's apartment while on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal on May 3, 2007 (she has since turned four). Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann of Rothley, Leicestershire, England, have set up a Website, Find Madeleine, to collect donations and facilitate the search for her whereabouts. A reward of £2.5 million has been offered for information leading to Madeleine's safe return.

Police have named a suspect, British citizen Robert Murat, though they say there is not enough evidence at present to arrest him. A Russian Web designer associated with Murat has been named as a key witness.
