Comments: I contacted Connie Wells of Lufkin, Texas, who confirmed that the above message is authentic, though she never intended or expected it to circulate so far and wide. She is nonetheless delighted, Wells says, to have received over 4,000 warm, supportive responses from as many as 20 different countries since the message was first sent off to friends and acquaintances in late October. She told me she is currently in the process of collating the responses so they can be mailed off to her son and his fellow soldiers in Afghanistan by Christmas Day.
Please note, however, that emails forwarded to jmwells@txucom.net after November 25, 2003 will arrive too late to be included in the Christmas package. Wells asks that people instead visit http://www.ginnow.com/thankyou and inscribe their messages of support for the troops there.
