Comments: It's true. Simply visit the Federal Trade Commission's DoNotCall.gov Website and fill out the online form, or dial 1-888-382-1222 (after June 7, 2003 in states east of the Mississippi) to add your name and phone number to the National Do Not Call Registry. Beginning October 1, 2003, commercial telemarketers will be required to honor it or face hefty fines. Your registration will be good for five years, after which it will have to be renewed.

Update: 'Do Not Call' Cola Giveaway Scam - Email flier warns that by submitting a mail-in form to choose your favorite cola, you grant telemarketers consent to contact you even if your name is on the National Do Not Call Registry.
Update: A 'Do Not Call' List for Cell Phone Users?
2004 email flier warns that a directory of personal cell phone numbers will be published and urges users to enter their cell phone numbers on the federal Do Not Call list to prevent unsolicited cell phone calls from telemarketers.
