This is so sad!

Comments: The top picture above has been removed by request because it was doctored without the original subjects' permission.

Among the various captions accompanying these emailed images in the wild are:

  • "Wedding of the Year"
  • "Hillbilly Wedding"
  • "North Carolina Wedding"
  • "Alabama Bride & Groom & Wedding Cake"
None of which is accurate. Several readers who forwarded the emails for authentication remarked that the first photograph, which features a bride and groom posing in a trailer park, appears to have been manipulated -- and so it was. The doctored image, entitled "Redneck Wedding," was an entry in a September 2004 Worth1000.com Photoshop contest in the category "If Rednecks Ruled."

The second photo, though authentic, is unrelated to the first and turned up immediately when I Googled "Twinkie wedding cake." At one time, apparently, it was featured as one of several, er, unconventional wedding cakes made out of Hostess snack food products in the "World of Wackiness" section of Twinkies.com.
