SPECIAL ALERT! NBC to mock the Crucifixion of Christ NBC, fresh from giving us the anti-Christian The Book of Daniel, has decided to hit back at the Christian community by presenting an episode of Will and Grace which mocks the crucifixion of Christ. On the April 13 edition of NBC's Will and Grace, Britney Spears will appear as a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes' homosexual character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show. Jack's fictional network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears contributing a cooking segment called "Cruci-fixin's." To further denigrate Christianity, NBC chose to air it the night before Good Friday. |
Comments: Dead issue. Though it was initially reported, based on an NBC press release, that Britney Spears would guest star in an April 13 episode of the sitcom "Will & Grace" as the host of a conservative Christian cooking show called "Cruci-fixins," the network quickly distributed a follow-up statement calling the announcement "erroneous."
"The reference to Cruci-fxins' will not be in the show and the storyline will not contain a Christian characterization at all," said the NBC statement. "We value our viewers and sincerely regret if this misinformation has offended them."
The statement was a response, in part, to criticisms such as the above from the American Family Association and other Christian activist groups. In an interesting sidebar, Cybercast News Service's Sherrie Gossett reports that similar jokes using the term "crucifixins" have already appeared without major controversy in the Fox network shows "Arrested Development" and "The Simpsons," as well as an Advertising Age slogan contest held back in 1991.
