I just wanted to comment on your Eddie Murphy elevator story.
I was actually speaking to a friend about this yesterday and,
contrary
to your opinion, she gave me her story. Here it is...
It was her sister-in-law, a teacher's aide (white), and a teacher
friend
(black) on an elevator going to a casino in Atlantic City. They were
there
for the annual teacher's convention approximately seven or eight years ago. They did
get on the elevator and were very eager to go to the casino and were
standing
just inside. The elevator stopped at another floor and two
black
men got on the elevator and walked behind them.
One of the men said, "Hit the
floor."
The women did, yelling, "Take the money. We won't say anything. Just don't
hurt us!"
The men proceeded to pick up all of the quarters the women
were
carrying and returned them to the women, saying, "We won't hurt you."
The next
morning upon leaving their rooms to go to breakfast the women found
huge
bouquets of flowers with the inscription: "Thank you for the biggest
laugh
I've had in a long time. Signed, Eddie Murphy."
Far be it from me to doubt your friend's sister-in-law's truthfulness who would ever lie about such a thing? Please thank her for helping us narrow down the time frame of the incident to seven or eight years ago. Finally we know the facts!
This did really happen to a family friend's sister about four years ago. Murphy was in the elevator with two of his bodyguards. The story was told to me (supported by pictures) back before anything was heavily circulating on the internet. The woman that this happened to grew up in a very small Minnesota town without the perqs of TV and movies to see, and without much exposure to minorities. She really did have no idea who he was until later when he delivered a gift to her, and her husband recognized the celebrity. I was in shock when I received the story last week, and knew who was in the elevator before reaching the end. I hope that you can change your classification of the story. I know there is a woman out there who would be a little upset if she read that this had all happened in her mind!
Justifiably so! I'm quite sure this happened four years ago just as she says it did, and that lady who said it happened to her seven years ago must be lying. Either that, or Eddie Murphy has done this sort of thing more than once! I'd certainly be curious to see those pictures, by the way. Did she take them while cowering on the floor?
