Do news photos showing that President Obama wasn't wearing a wedding ring for a period of time allegedly coinciding with the Islamic holiday Ramadan prove he is actually a Muslim?
Description: Email rumor
Circulating since: Sep. 2010
Status: Mostly false (see details below)
Email text contributed by J. Reim, Dec. 27, 2010:
FW: Missing Ring and Watch
Another piece falls into place.
In a press conference last week Obama was not wearing his wedding ring nor his watch.
When noticed, his staff said his ring was out for repairs.
No reason was given for the missing watch.
So? Is it just a coincidence that Muslims are forbidden from wearing jewelry during the month of Ramadan?
Can't possibly be that, because although he hasn't gone to a Christian church service since entering the White House, we know he's a committed Christian 'cause he said so during the campaign.
And I've got a bridge to sell you also.

This is the same president that spent the Christmas holidays in Hawaii to avoid religious obligations as PRESIDENT at the White House. His children do not receive Christmas presents.
Let's just face the facts and quit trying to hide from the truth, in the White House we have a muslim for president, and he has no knowledge of American history.
Hey guys, we're not paying attention, Muslims will soon rule the world. Put God first in your life above all others. regardless of who they are!
PASS THIS ON TO BELIEVERS OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR COUNTRY AND TO THOSE WHO ARE STILL IN DENIAL!!
Analysis: Here's what's true: Dozens of news photos confirm that between September 10 and September 21, 2010, President Obama didn't wear a wedding ring during any of his public appearances. When queried about the missing ring, a White House spokesman told reporters it was out for repairs.
Here's what isn't true: The claim that the period of time Obama went ringless coincided with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. It didn't. In 2010, Ramadan began on August 11 and ended on September 10. News photos show Obama wearing his wedding ring (and watch) during the entire 30-day period up until September 10.
(NOTE: This rumor circulated again one year later during Ramadan 2011, which ran from August 1 to August 29. News photos show Obama wearing his wedding ring and wristwatch the entire time.)
It's also not true or, if it is true, I wasn't able to find a single authoritative source that confirms it that Muslims are forbidden to wear jewelry during Ramadan.
Nor is it true that "Obama hasn't gone to a Christian church service since entering the White House." Though they have by no means attended church regularly since being elected, Obama and family have attended Easter and Christmas services in Washington, D.C.
As to the claim that Obama's children don't receive Christmas presents, that appears to be a case of folks with an agenda exploiting an offhand comment by taking it too literally. It originally appeared in a sidebar to a People magazine fluff piece on the Obama family that ran in August 2008 when Barack Obama was still a candidate. One of several entries under the headline "Obama House Rules" went like this:
6) No birthday or Christmas presents from Mom and Dad, who spend "hundreds" on birthday slumber parties and, as Barack puts it, "want to teach some limits." Says Michelle: "Malia says, 'I know there is a Santa because there's no way you'd buy me all that stuff.'"
It says "No birthday or Christmas presents from Mom and Dad," sure enough, but there's no way to interpret Michelle Obama's quotation of Malia as anything other than casual confirmation that the Obama children do, in fact, receive Christmas gifts though perhaps not signed "Love, Mom and Dad." In any case, both children have spoken publicly of choosing Christmas presents for their parents (as well as for Bo, the White House dog), so regardless who signs the gift tags on presents for Malia and Sasha, Christmas gift-giving clearly does take place in the Obama household.
