Road Sign Supposedly Says 'Welcome to Kenya, Birthplace of Barack Obama'
Highway sign reads: 'Welcome to Kenya, Birthplace of Barack Obama'

Netlore Archive: Circulating via email, a photo purporting to show a highway sign in Kenya that reads 'Welcome to Kenya, Birthplace of Barack Obama.'

Image source: unknown, circulating via email

Description: Viral image / Hoax
Circulating since: Jan. 2010
Status: FAKE (see details below)

Subject: OOPS !
Have ya seen this one yet???
Sign Posted on the Road just outside Nairobi, Kenya
(see photo above)

Analysis: Hate to disappoint wishful thinkers, but this is a hoax. Clue #1: Kenya's two main languages are Swahili and English, but the road sign depicted above is written in Arabic script. Clue #2: the image has been Photoshopped.

The original, undoctored image, discovered by a user posting on the conspiracy-theory website AboveTopSecret.com, is of a road sign in Madha, a territory of Oman located in the United Arab Emirates. In English and Arabic, the actual sign says: "Wilayat Madha Welcomes You."

The original image was posted by Jan Krogh on his website about the country of Oman.
