Comments: True. Believe it or not, the first edition of The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Suess (Theodor Geisel) was published 50 years ago on March 1, 1957.
To celebrate the anniversary, Random House has launched a special four-month promotion benefiting First Book, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reading and learning materials to children from low-income families. For every birthday card sent to the Cat in the Hat between January 9 and May 1, 2007, either online or via snail mail, one book will be donated to First Book, up to a total of one million books.
Please note, however, that the fine print states that only one card per person will be accepted and that all participants must be between the ages of 1 and 17 as of March 2, 2007 (a separate promotion for adults provides for the donation of one book per household based on proof of purchase of any Dr. Seuss book).
All entries must be received by May 1, 2007.
