Re: Richard Gere and the Gerbil
From: An AOL user

I was researching something else when I came across your article regarding Richard Gere and the gerbil story.

Here is what I know.

My partner and I were living in Los Angeles in 1989 when I first heard about this incident. My partner, Kelly, worked at the Humana Hospital in Woodland Hills with a nurse named Lydia. Lydia worked occasional weekends at Cedars Sinai. On one of these weekends she said Richard Gere came into the emergency room with a gerbil in his rectum. The gerbil was extracted and he went home. She told my partner about it the following week and he told me.

I only met Lydia briefly a couple of times, but don't know why she would make up such a story. The other odd thing about this is that it was about three or four weeks after I had heard about this incident that it became widely known to the public. It was a very popular topic on local radio and everyone living in LA at that time has heard the story and was talking about it.

I believe the incident with Richard Gere and the gerbil to be true, but cannot prove it. I also find it interesting that Richard Gere has never denied it.
