I thought I'd further blur or shed some light on this subject. Please don't use my name, but perhaps this info might be useful in pinning down a date or location, etc. If anyone is interested in pursuing this subject any further, that is.
I am not one to disclose personal info, but it seems necessary in this case. I am an 18 yr vet of the Canadian military. I visited a Canadian military doctor at the former Currie Barracks in Calgary, AB in approx 1991. I was having a problem with rectal bleeding/tearing due to a lack of hydration and the consumption of military rations. During my visit he had mentioned Richard Gere and had stated that he was interning at a hospital in Victoria, B.C. when Richard Gere had come in with the gerbil inside him. He said it had clawed through his intestine and into his abdominal wall. The doctor was fairly young I found it strange that he had mentioned it, but unless he was/is a compulsive liar I suspect it is true.
