I just wanted to say thank you for helping to try and dispel people's beliefs about Richard Gere and the gerbil. I'm a big fan of his work (theatrical and personal) so naturally when I heard this rumor I decided I would do some research on it. There is a site somewhere that claims the reason it started is because of Sylvester Stallone. A "witness" apparently saw Gere, Crawford and Stallone at some party. Gere and Stallone got into a fight over Crawford, and Stallone started the rumor.
I don't know if an ounce of that is true — but judging by the recent admittance from Stallone that he elbowed Gere in the face while they filmed a movie together, those two have some history.
I hope this was of some interest.
