How I did it
After hearing of the legend of the Equinox Eggs I decided to try it. I heard the ideal time this year (when the earth was at its most upright axis) was 1:32 PM on 3/21/10. I started trying to stand the egg 5 minutes before... no luck. At precisely 1:32 the egg did indeed stand alone. Then I tried a second egg; it too stood. They remained like this for hours, until my husband walked through the kitchen with a heavy footfall. I have heard of them standing for as long as 30 days left undisturbed.
I can not seem to replicate this event a day later.
When I did it
I was able to actually do this on 03/21/2010 at 1:32PM Spring Equinox in Louisville, Kentucky. Worked exactly at this time per a news report that this was the ideal upright position of the earth. Able to stand two eggs side-by-side; and they stood for several hours until vibration from heavy footfall caused they to fall. I could not get this to happen again after the ideal time, though I am sure the "shape" of the eggs are pretty key. Very "pointy" eggs probably have little chance of working.
Lessons Learned
- A steady hand is key to settling the egg in its upright position. Patience and concentration are a must! But once the egg stands, it appears to stay there until disturbed by motion.
